        Research on Whole‑Process Tensile Behavior of Headed Studs in Steel–Concrete Composite Structures

        The headed studs have been widely applied in steel–concrete composite structures as shear connectors. However, the tensile performance of headed studs is also key to the structural performance in many cases such as the semi-rigid composite joints including steel beam–concrete wall joint and steel column–base joint. Therefore, this study presents experimental and analytical study on the whole-process tensile behavior of headed studs. Tests on a total of 33 pullout specimens are first conducted. The tensile capacity and load–deformation behavior of the anchorage concrete, which dominates the structural performance of headed studs, are thoroughly analyzed. In addition, test data in the literature are collected for quantitatively evaluating the influence of embedment depth, bearing area, boundary conditions, and concrete strength on the tensile behavior of the anchorage concrete. On the basis of the influence evaluation, an analytical model represented by a piecewise function is proposed to describe the whole-process load–deformation behavior of the anchorage concrete and validated through the comparison between the predicted curves and all collected experimental results. Then the proposed model is applied to simulate the rotational behavior of the typical semi-rigid joint anchored by headed studs, which takes the contribution of the anchorage concrete into consideration, and is verified by experimental results. The research findings indicate that tensile behavior of anchorage concrete is crucial to the structural performance of semi-rigid joints, even for headed studs with large embedment depth and bearing area.

      • MiR-454 Prompts Cell Proliferation of Human Colorectal Cancer Cells by Repressing CYLD Expression

        Previous studies have shown that miR-454 plays an important role in a variety of biological processes in various human cancer cells. However, the underlying mechanisms of this microRNA in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells remain largely unknown. In the present study, we investigated the miR-454 role in CRC cell proliferation. We found that miR-454 expression is markedly upregulated in CRC tissues and CRC cells compared with the matched tumor adjacent tissues and the FHC normal colonic cell line. Ectopic expression of miR-454 promoted the proliferation and anchorage-independent growth of CRC cells, whereas inhibition of miR-454 reduced this effect. Bioinformatics analysis further revealed cylindromatosis (CYLD), a putative tumor suppressor as a potential target of miR-454. Data from luciferase reporter assays showed that miR-454 directly binds to the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of CYLD mRNA and repressed expression at both transcriptional and translational levels. In functional assays, CYLD-silenced in miR-454-in-transfected SW480 cells have positive effect to promote cell proliferation, suggesting that direct CYLD downregulation is required for miR-454-induced CRC cell proliferation. In sum, our data provide compelling evidence that miR-454 functions as an onco-miRNA, playing a crucial role in the promoting cell proliferation in CRC, and its oncogenic effect is mediated chiefly through direct suppression of CYLD expression.

        <P>Novel functional materials that use both the spin and charge of an electron offer many exciting opportunities to create new information processing and storage devices with ultralow power consumption. The recent discovery of magnetism in atomically thin-layered materials could boost research in the field of light element materials such as van der Waals magnetic nanostructures. Here, we report intrinsic magnetization in large-area graphene grown on Fe(100) foil structures. The optimal growth mechanisms provide high-quality graphene samples with controllable magnetic properties, such as thickness-dependent magnetization. Using first-principles calculations, we investigated several possible scenarios for controlling the magnetic properties. Moreover, the independent magnetic structures induced in graphene were identified through field-applied magnetic force microscopy (FA-MFM) followed by vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). Our results open a new avenue for controlling the magnetic properties of graphene structures by mediating surface growth on regular magnets for applications in large-scale spintronics.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        The genus Chlorophila Semenow, 1891 is reviewed with all known eight species worldwide in this present paper. Two new species, Chlorophila carinadorsum sp. n. and Chlorophila longicornia sp. n. are described. Four known species are described again from freshly collected specimens.         Potential Biomarker of L-type Amino Acid Transporter 1 in Breast Cancer Progression

        Purpose L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1) is essential for the transport of large neutral amino acids. However, its role in breast cancer growth remains largely unknown. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether LAT1 is a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Methods LAT1 mRNA and protein levels in breast cancer cell lines and tissues were analyzed. In addition, the effects of targeting LAT1 for the inhibition of breast cancer cell tumorigenesis were assessed with soft agar assay. The imaging of xenograft with anti-1-amino-3-[$^{18}F$]fluorocyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid (anti-[$^{18}F$]FACBC) PET was assessed for its diagnostic biomarker potential. Results Normal breast tissue or low malignant cell lines expressed low levels of LAT1 mRNA and protein, while highly malignant cancer cell lines and high-grade breast cancer tissue expressed high levels of LAT1. In addition, higher expression levels of LAT1 in breast cancer tissues were consistent with advanced-stage breast cancer. Furthermore, the blockade of LAT1 with its inhibitor, 2-aminobicyclo[ 2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid (BCH), or the knockdown of LAT1 with siRNA, inhibited proliferation and tumorigenesis of breast cancer cells. A leucine analog, anti-[$^{18}F$]FACBC, has been demonstrated to be an excellent PET tracer for the non-invasive imaging of malignant breast cancer using an orthotopic animal model. Conclusions The overexpression of LAT1 is required for the progression of breast cancer. LAT1 represents a potential biomarker for therapy and diagnosis of breast cancer. Anti-[$^{18}F$]FACBC that correlates with LAT1 function is a potential PET tracer for malignant breast tumor imaging.

        Comparative energy content and amino acid digestibility of barley obtained from diverse sources fed to growing pigs

        Objective: Two experiments were conducted to determine the content of digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) as well as the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) and standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) in barley grains obtained from Australia, France or Canada. Methods: In Exp. 1, 18 growing barrows (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire; 31.5±3.2 kg) were individually placed in stainless-steel metabolism crates (1.4×0.7×0.6 m) and randomly allotted to 1 of 3 test diets. In Exp. 2, eight crossbred pigs (30.9±1.8 kg) were allotted to a replicate 3×4 Youden Square designed experiment with three periods and four diets. Two pigs received each diet during each test period. The diets included one nitrogen-free diet and three test diets. Results: The relative amounts of gross energy (GE), CP, and all AA in the Canadian barley were higher than those in Australian and French barley while higher concentrations of neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, total dietary fiber, insoluble dietary fiber and β-glucan as well as lower concentrations of GE and ether extract were observed in the French barley compared with the other two barley sources. The DE and ME as well as the SID of histidine, isoleucine, leucine and phenylalanine in Canadian barley were higher (p<0.05) than those in French barley but did not differ from Australian barley. Conclusion: Differences in the chemical composition, energy content and the SID and AID of AA were observed among barley sources obtained from three countries. The feeding value of barley from Canada and Australia was superior to barley obtained from France which is important information in developing feeding systems for growing pigs where imported grains are used.

        Variable Parameter Sliding Controller Design for Vehicle Brake with Wheel Slip

        In this paper, a 4-wheel vehicle model including the effects of tire slip was considered, along with variable parameter sliding control, pushrod force as the end control parameter, and an antilock sliding control, in order to improve the performance of the vehicle longitudinal response. The variable sliding parameter is made to be proportional to the square root of the pressure derivative at the wheel, in order to compensate for large pressure changes in the brake cylinder. A typical tire force-relative slip curve for dry road conditions was used to generate an analytical tire force-relative slip function, and an antilock sliding control process based on the analytical tire force-relative slip function was used. A retrofitted brake system, with the pushrod force as the end control parameter, was employed, and an average decay function was used to suppress the simulation oscillations. Simulation results indicate that the velocity and spacing errors were slightly larger than the results that without considering wheel slip effect, the spacing errors of the lead and follower were insensitive to the adhesion coefficient up to the critical wheel slip value, and the limit for the antilock control on non-constant adhesion road condition was determined by the minimum of the equivalent adhesion coefficient.

        An Analysis of the Export Competitiveness of Chinese Household Appliances to Korea

        본 논문은 중국 가전제품의 한국시장에서 수출경쟁력 평가하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 사용된 분석 도구는 시장점유율지수(MSI), 무역특화지수(TSI), 수출편향지수(EBI)이다. 가전제품은 HS코드 4단위 기준, 19개 품목을 대상으로 하고 2010년에서 2019년 사이의 한국무 역협회 통계자료를 바탕으로 연구를 진행하였다. 먼저 시장점유율지수를 도출하여 중국 가전 제품의 한국시장점유율은 가정용세탁기(8450), 송신기기(8525), 안테나(8529) 세 개 품목을 제 외한 품목이 상승세로 보거나 비교적인 높은 점유율을 유지하고 있음을 밝힐 수 있다. 무역특 화지수를 도출하여 중국가전제품의 대 한국무역특화지수는 19개 품목에서 7개이 강한 수출특 화지수를 유지하고 있고 나머지 품목이 수입특화도를 약화되고 있음을 밝힌다. 한국시장에서 중국 가전제품의 시장집중도를 알아보기 위해 수출편향지수 분석방법을 사용한 결과, 비교우위를 나타나는 품목이 3개 이었으며, 비교우위를 가까운 품목이 7개 이었다. 19개 품목에서 진공청소기(8505), 마이크로폰(8518), 송신기기(8525)품목을 제외하고 시장집중도가 높아진 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이의 분석을 종합해 보면, 2010년부터 2019년까지 10년 간 중 국 가전제품은 한국시장에서 그 수출경쟁력이 상승하였고 비교우위가 높은 것으로 분석되었 다. 지금도 한국의 소형냉장고, 소형 TV, 다리미, 공기조절기, 전기기기, 면도기, 가열기 등 제 품은 중국에서 제조된 제품이 한국에서 수입이 증대하고 있으나, 고가품과 대형 제품 들은 한 국에서 자체 생산할 뿐만 아니라 품질면에서 우수하기 때문에 한국 제조 가전제품은 국내소비 가 증대하고 있다. Purpose : This study was conducted to understand the competitive aspects of Chinese home appliances in the Korean domestic market in order to introduce a model for improving the competitiveness of Korean products that dominate the global market in home appliances. For the implementation of this study, during the period from 2010 to 2019, a study was conducted to analyze the competitiveness of home appliances, which are Chinese electronic products, in the Korean market. Research design, data, methodology : This study used the market share index (MSI), trade specialization index (TSI), and export bias index (EBI) for the Korean market for Chinese home appliances, and the statistics of China's 2020 data were not fully achieved at the time of the study. Therefore, the period of study was set from 2010 to 2019. Results : As a result of using the export bias index analysis method to find out the market concentration of Chinese home appliances in the Korean market, 3 items showed comparative advantage and 7 items showed comparative advantage. In 19 items, it was confirmed that the market concentration increased except for the vacuum cleaner (8505), microphone (8518), and transmitter (8525) items. Conclusions : As a result of the analysis, it was analyzed that during the 10 years from 2010 to 2019, the export competitiveness of Chinese home appliances increased in the Korean market and the comparative advantage was high. Even today, products such as small refrigerators, small TVs, irons, air conditioners, electric appliances, razors, and heaters in Korea are imported from China, but high-priced and large-sized products are not only produced by themselves in Korea, Domestic consumption of home appliances manufactured in Korea is increasing because of its excellence in Korea.

        A preparation and performance study of glass-ceramic glazes derived from blast furnace slag and fly ash

        Glass-ceramic glazes have been prepared successfully via crystallization from blast-furnace slag (BFS), fly ash (FA) fluxed with potash feldspar and borax. The crystalline behavior of glass-ceramic glazes was investigated using differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (DTA/TG), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results revealed that the major crystalline phases are anorthite (CaAl2Si2O8) and akermanite (Ca2MgSi2O7) and crystalline phases disperse well in glassy phases with a uniform size of 1 μm. Glass-ceramic glazes possess low density, low water absorption,perfect stain resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance. The thermal expansion coefficient of glass-ceramic glazes is steady up to 800 oC with an average value of 7.2 × 10−6 /K. Final results suggest that BFS and FA have potential to be vitrified into economically and environmentally low-cost glass-ceramic glaze materials.
