      • A High Throughput VLSI Architecture For LZ Algorithm

Lee,Taeyoung,Lee,Yongsurk,Lee,Moonkey,Nam,Seunghyun THE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF ASIC DESIGN YONSEI UNIVE 1995 Journal of the Research Institute of ASIC Design Vol.2 No.1

This paper proposes a novel VLSI architecture which can process Lempel-Ziv-based adaptive data compression algorithm at high speed. The compression architecture is composed of five main blocks : PE-based Match Block, Consecutive Hit Checker, Pointer Generator, Length Generator, and Code Packer. From the view point of hardware cost and compression ratio, the dictionary buffer of 1024 bytes and the maximum allowable match length of 16 bytes are utilized. The proposed architecture has the following features. (1)Since it is designed in systolic array, our architecture is easy to implement and has simple control logic. (2)It processes exactly one character per one clock cycle, i.e., it doesn't need any accumulated shift operations for re-initiating the dictionary buffer which delay the operation considerably. (3)It can operate up 40 MHz according to the post-layout simulation of the critical path. 4)It can be used in real-time data compression for video coding or information storage with the input processing capability of 40 Mega symbols(characters) per second.

Processing of syndecan-2 by matrix metalloproteinase-14 and effect of its cleavage on VEGF-induced tube formation of HUVECs

        Lee, Young Hun,Park, Jun Hyoung,Cheon, Dong Huey,Kim, Taeyoung,Park, Yae Eun,Oh, Eok-Soo,Lee, Ji Eun,Lee, Seung-Taek Portland Press Ltd. 2017 Biochemical journal Vol. No.

<P>Syndecans (SDCs) are transmembrane proteoglycans that are involved in cell adhesion and cell communication. Specifically, SDC2 plays a key role in tumorigenesis, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Previously, we found that rat SDC2 is shed by matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) in colon cancer cells. Here, we analyzed the susceptibility of rat SDC2 to various MMPs. We found that the rat SDC2 ectodomain (ECD) fused to the C-terminal Fc region, which was expressed in mammalian cells, was cleaved more efficiently by MMP-14 than MMP-7. Likewise, when anchored on the surface of HeLa cells, rat SDC2 was cleaved more efficiently by the treatment of MMP-14 than MMP-7 and was shed more readily by membrane-anchored MMP-14 than soluble MMP-14. Furthermore, MMP-14 cleaved recombinant SDC2-ECD expressed in <I>Escherichia coli</I> into multiple fragments. Using N-terminal amino acid sequencing and the top-down proteomics approach, we determined that the major cleavage sites were S88↓L89, T98↓M99, T100↓L101, D132↓P133, and N148↓L149 for rat SDC2-ECD and S55↓G56, S65↓P66, P75↓K76, N92↓I93 D122↓P123, and S138↓L139 for human SDC2-ECD. Finally, the rat and human SDC2-ECD lost the ability to suppress vascular endothelial growth factor-induced formation of capillary-like tubes by human umbilical vein endothelial cells following cleavage by MMP-14, but its major cleavage-site mutant of rat SDC2-ECD did not. These results suggest that MMP-14 is a novel enzyme responsible for degrading SDC2 and impairing its physiological roles including angiogenesis.</P>

Advanced braking algorithm for robust longitudinal risk management

Lee, Taeyoung,Kim, Taewoo,Kim, Beomjun,Yi, Kyongsu,Lee, Jaewan Professional Engineering Publishing Ltd 2016 Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engin Vol. No.

<P>This paper describes an advanced braking algorithm for robust longitudinal risk management to prevent or mitigate rear-end collisions. Since the proposed safety system works in conjunction with a human driver, the longitudinal safety system must be acceptable to the driver. The key to achieving this is to ensure that control signals are given at the appropriate time. In order to construct an suitable control system, a new longitudinal safety index was developed by using the time to collision and the warning index, which are well-known safety parameters in longitudinal safety control. The clearance and the relative velocity constitute essential signals for safety monitoring in longitudinal safety control. These measured sensor signals include the uncertainty in the measurement noise. To design a robust safety monitoring and control mode decision, information consisting of fusion of the measurement signals was obtained. In addition, an expected error range of the proposed safety index from the measurement noise can be defined from the covariance matrix of the Kalman filter and the deviation of the function of the new longitudinal safety index. The control performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated by analysis of the simulation results. From this analysis, it can be concluded that the proposed advanced braking algorithm can substantially enhance the longitudinal safety and can guarantee a robust performance with respect to the sensor uncertainty.</P>

      • Extraction of Salinity-Gradient Energy by a Hybrid Capacitive-Mixing System

        Lee, Jiho,Yoon, Hongsik,Lee, Jaehan,Kim, Taeyoung,Yoon, Jeyong Wiley (John WileySons) 2017 ChemSusChem Vol.10 No.7

<P>Salinity-gradient energy (SGE) is a renewable energy source available wherever two solutions with different salinity mix. Capacitive-mixing (Capmix) is a technology that directly extracts the SG potential through the movements of ions in high- and low-concentration solutions. However, the energy-harvesting performance of Capmix needs further improvement. Herein, a hybrid Capmix that consists of a battery and capacitive electrodes is proposed. In this system, sodium ions and anions are captured/released by the metal oxide and carbon electrodes, respectively. The hybrid Capmix extracted an energy density that was approximately three times higher (130Jm(-2)) and exhibited a notable power output (97mWm(-2)) compared to the previous Capmix using ion-exchange membranes. Furthermore, the hybrid system operated successfully with real river water and seawater. These results suggest that the hybrid Capmix could be a viable option to harvest energy from salinity gradients.</P>

Detecting mpox infection in the early epidemic: an epidemiologic investigation of the third and fourth cases in Korea

        Taeyoung Kim,Eonjoo Park,Jun Suk Eun,Eun-young Lee,Ji Won Mun,Yunsang Choi,Shinyoung Lee,Hansol Yeom,Eunkyoung Kim,Jongmu Kim,Jihyun Choi,Jinho Ha,Sookkyung Park 한국역학회 2023 Epidemiology and Health Vol.45 No.-

OBJECTIVES: As few mpox cases have been reported in Korea, we aimed to identify the characteristics of mpox infection by describing our epidemiologic investigation of a woman patient (index patient, the third case in Korea) and a physician who was infected by a needlestick injury (the fourth case). METHODS: We conducted contact tracing and exposure risk evaluation through interviews with these 2 patients and their physicians and contacts, as well as field investigations at each facility visited by the patients during their symptomatic periods. We then classified contacts into 3 levels according to their exposure risk and managed them to minimize further transmission by recommending quarantine and vaccination for post-exposure prophylaxis and monitoring their symptoms. RESULTS: The index patient had sexual contact with a man foreigner during a trip to Dubai, which was considered the probable route of transmission. In total, 27 healthcare-associated contacts across 7 healthcare facilities and 9 community contacts were identified. These contacts were classified into high (7 contacts), medium (9 contacts), and low (20 contacts) exposure risk groups. One high-risk contact was identified as a secondary patient: a physician who was injured while collecting specimens from the index patient. CONCLUSIONS: The index patient visited several medical facilities due to progressive symptoms prior to isolation. Although the 2022 mpox epidemic mainly affected young men, especially men who have sex with men, physicians should also consider mpox transmission in the general population for the timely detection of mpox-infected patients.

      • Ag2S-CoS hetero-nanowires terminated with stepped surfaces for improved oxygen evolution reaction

        Lee, Changsoo,Lee, Chulhee,Shin, Kihyun,Song, Taeyoung,Jeong, Hu Young,Jeon, Duk Young,Lee, Hyuck Mo Elsevier 2019 CATALYSIS COMMUNICATIONS - Vol.129 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Water electrolysis has received great attention for producing hydrogen, but sluggish kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has remained a big challenge. Recently, cobalt sulfide materials have been widely explored as great choice in highly efficient electrocatalysts due to their good electrical conductivity and bi-functionality toward OER and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, cobalt sulfide shows outstanding HER activity, but its OER activity should be improved. Herein, hexagonal-phase cobalt sulfide (CoS) nanowires with abundant stepped surfaces and defect sites were prepared via a seed-growth approach with silver sulfide (Ag2S) nanoparticles. The Ag2S-CoS hetero-nanowires (HNWs) exhibited excellent electrochemical performances for oxygen evolution reaction (overpotential = 275 mV, Tafel slope = 77.1 mVdec−1, charge transfer resistance = 1.3 Ω) in 1.0 M KOH solution. The origin of superior activity was investigated using a combined experimental and theoretical approach. This work highlights the importance of surface defects for improving oxygen evolution reaction performance of water electrolysis.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Hexagonal-phase CoS hetero-nanowires were synthesized using seeded growth with Ag2S nanoparticles. </LI> <LI> Abundant stepped surface improved catalytic activity toward oxygen evolution reaction. </LI> <LI> Combined experimental and theoretical study for explaining the excellent catalytic performances </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Bone Density in Chronic Schizophrenia with Long-Term Antipsychotic Treatment: Preliminary Study

        TaeYoung Lee,MoonYong Chung,HaeKyung Chung,JinHee Choi,TaeYong Kim,HyungSeok So 대한신경정신의학회 2010 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.7 No.4

Objective-Decreased bone mineral density has been found in the chronic schizophrenic patients who have been given a long-term administration of antipsychotics. Hyperprolactinemia from the antipsychotics and the negative symptom of schizophrenia were considered as the causes for this finding. In this study, the effect of hyperprolactinemia and the negative symptom of schizophrenia on bone mineral density was investigated on male schizophrenic patients. Methods-The cross-sectional study was carried out with the subjects of 45 male schizophrenic patients who have undertaken the monotherapy with risperidone, olanzapine and clozapine for at least one year. The demographic factors, clinical symtoms, bone mineral density and hematological test were examined for all the subjects. Results-No significant relationship was found between hyperprolactinemia and the decreased bone mineral density in the subjects. The negative schizophrenia symptom of the subjects showed a significant effect on the decreased bone mineral density. Conclusion-The decreased bone mineral density finding in the male schizophrenic patients may be caused by the negative schizophrenia symptom rather than the hyperprolactinemia due to the antipsychotics. Additional studies are further required regarding other factors that may affect the decreased bone mineral density such as activity, calcium intake and exposure to sunlight.
