        Aβ-induced mitochondrial dysfunction in neural progenitors controls KDM5A to influence neuronal differentiation

        Mitochondria in neural progenitors play a crucial role in adult hippocampal neurogenesis by being involved in fate decisions for differentiation. However, the molecular mechanisms by which mitochondria are related to the genetic regulation of neuronal differentiation in neural progenitors are poorly understood. Here, we show that mitochondrial dysfunction induced by amyloid-beta (Aβ) in neural progenitors inhibits neuronal differentiation but has no effect on the neural progenitor stage. In line with the phenotypes shown in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) model mice, Aβ-induced mitochondrial damage in neural progenitors results in deficits in adult hippocampal neurogenesis and cognitive function. Based on hippocampal proteome changes after mitochondrial damage in neural progenitors identified through proteomic analysis, we found that lysine demethylase 5A (KDM5A) in neural progenitors epigenetically suppresses differentiation in response to mitochondrial damage. Mitochondrial damage characteristically causes KDM5A degradation in neural progenitors. Since KDM5A also binds to and activates neuronal genes involved in the early stage of differentiation, functional inhibition of KDM5A consequently inhibits adult hippocampal neurogenesis. We suggest that mitochondria in neural progenitors serve as the checkpoint for neuronal differentiation via KDM5A. Our findings not only reveal a cell-type-specific role of mitochondria but also suggest a new role of KDM5A in neural progenitors as a mediator of retrograde signaling from mitochondria to the nucleus, reflecting the mitochondrial status.

        Dielectric Function and Critical Points of SnS0.52Se0.48 in the Temperature Range from 27 to 350 K

        We report the dielectric function ε = ε1+iε2 and the critical point (CP) energies of the orthorhombic SnS0.52Se0.48 alloy for the zigzag (a) and the armchair (b) directions in the spectral energy range from 0.74 to 6.42 eV and the temperature range from 27 to 350 K using spectroscopic ellipsometry. The CP energies were determined from the 2nd derivative spectra by using the standard analytic method. We observed sharpenings and blue-shifts of the CPs with decreasing temperature. We found thirteen and twelve CPs for the a- and the b-directions, respectively, at the lowest temperature while only eight and nine CPs were detected at room temperature. Also, an exciton effect was observed only in the armchair direction at low temperatures. The temperature dependences of the CP energies were determined by fitting the data to a phenomenological expression that contain the Bose-Einstein statistical factor and the temperature coefficient to describe the electron-phonon interaction.

        마이스터고 정책의 제도적 변화 분석: 역사적 제도주의 관점을 중심으로

        본 연구는 마이스터고등학교 정책의 경로 변화 과정을 역사적 제도주의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이를 통하여 마이스터고 정책이 정부 교체와 상관없이 중등 직업교육 제도의 일환으로 지속될 수 있었던 원인과 내적인 변화의 계기들을 역사적으로 검토하였다. 연구 결과의 주요 내용을 역사적 제도주의의 관점과 이 사조에서 주요하게 통용되는 용어를 활용하여 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 마이스터고 정책은 중등 직업교육제도의 기존 요소들이 잔존하면서도 ‘마이스터’라는 차별화 지점을 부각하면서 태동되었다. 둘째, 마이스터고 정책은 준비기 및 시행기에 취업률이라는 성과지표에 의존하며 경로의존성을 형성하였고, 기존의 여러 정책요소가 제도적으로 결합하면서 가겹(layering)의 형태로 경로를 형성하였다. 셋째, 청년세대 공정 담론과 고졸 채용에 관한 부정적 여론, 조기 입직과 노동환경에 관한 문제 인식의 강화, 코로나 팬데믹의 산업과 교육현장에의 충격 등 의도치 않은 결과에 적절한 대응책을 마련하지 못하고 표류(drift)하였다. 종합하면, 마이스터고 정책은 완만한 변형(gradual transformation)을 이루고 있으며 동일한 장관이 서로 다른 시기의 정권에서 이슈화를 시도하였다는 특이점을 갖는다. 행위자로서 교육부 장관은 직업교육의 아젠다를 선점하고 이슈화하였지만 정책이 처한 시기와 환경이 달라짐에 따라 그 영향력에 차이가 있었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 마이스터고 정책에 대한 시사점을 도출하고, 마이스터고등학교 발전 방안을 제도적 측면에서 제언하였다. This study analyzed the trajectory of policy change in Meister High School from a historical institutionalism perspective. Through this analysis, the causes for the continuity of Meister High School policy as part of the secondary vocational education system, regardless of changes in government, and the internal catalysts for change were examined from a historical perspective. The key findings of the study, summarized using the perspective of historical institutionalism and commonly used terms in this discourse, are as follows. First, the Meister High School policy emerged by highlighting the differentiation point of "Meister" while maintaining existing elements of the secondary vocational education system. Second, the Meister High School policy relied on the performance indicator of employment rates during the preparatory and implementation stages, forming path dependence. Various pre-existing policy elements combined institutionally to form a layering effect in the path formation. Third, the policy drifted due to unintended consequences such as negative public discourse on fair access for youth, negative perceptions of employment upon high school graduation, and issues related to early employment and working conditions, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on industries and educational settings. In summary, the Meister High School policy is undergoing a gradual transformation, and has the uniqueness of attempting issue framing by the same minister in different periods of government. As an actor, the Minister of Education sought to dominate and frame the agenda of vocational education, but the influence varied depending on the timing and context in which the policy was situated. Based on the research findings, implications for the Meister High School policy are derived, and suggestions for the institutional aspects of the development of Meister High School are provided.

        Neutron star properties from astrophysical observations

        Recently, simultaneous measurements of the masses and the radii of neutron stars from X-ray observations by the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) have been reported. In addition, gravitational wave detections from the mergers of neutron star binaries allowed us to estimate the tidal deformability of neutron stars. Based on these recent observations and our works, we review their implications for the masses, radii and tidal deformabilities of neutron stars. We also discuss the basic principles of the polytropic equations of state, including sound velocities, and the implications of those equations to the properties of neutron stars.

        Influence of precursor type on non-toxic hybrid inks for high-efficiency Cu<sub>2</sub>ZnSnS<sub>4</sub> thin-film solar cells

        <P>Copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) has attracted significant attention in the past few years as a next-generation absorber material, and is a promising candidate for the mass production of thin-film solar cells with high efficiencies. Here, we demonstrate a non-toxic solvent-based hybrid-ink approach for the fabrication of a high-quality CZTS absorber layer with a thickness of 1.3 μm and micrometer-scale grains (∼1 μm), resulting in an efficiency of 8.17%. In particular, we investigate the effects of the solid-state Zn metal or ZnS precursor on both the phase transformation and the device performance, which clearly suggests that the low-melting-point Zn phase effectively facilitates the phase-pure, high-performance CZTS absorber layer without the formation of secondary phases that have been observed in most cases of CZTS solar cells derived from wet chemical processes.       • 중소기업의 디자인가치 구현을 위한 평가체계

        디자인경영은 디자인을 활용하여 기업의 경영목표를 이루려는 수단이다. 따라서 디자인경영은 객관적이고 정확한 기준에 의해서 평가되어야 한다. 일반적으로 평가지표로 디자인 활동을 통하여 기업의 수익이 얼마나 창출되었는가를 기준으로 적용할 수 있지만, 이러한 기준으로는 디자인 활동에 관한 평가를 정량화시키기 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 디자인 활동의 과정에 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인들을 추출하고 각 요소들 간의 관계를 분석하여, 객관적인 평가 자료로 활용이 가능하도록 하였다. 또한 단순한 평가 자료의 활용이 아닌 향후 디자인경영 활동을 확대, 발전시켜 나갈 수 있는 근거로 삼을 수 있도록 하였다. 특히 중소기업의 경우 디자인경영에 관한 이해의 부족과 비용 등에 대한 부담으로 도입이 미루어지고 있으며, 이에 관한 평가는 전무한 현실이다. 이러한 전반적 상황에서는 중소기업의 효율적 디자인경영의 도입 및 확산을 기대하기가 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 중소기업의 디자인경영에 관한 이해를 돕고 자가 진단적 성향의 평가를 통해 디자인 경영의 여러 요인들 중에서 균형을 찾아 나아갈 수 있는 방향을 제시하였다. Design Management is a measurement to realize management goal of an enterprise making the best use of design. Accordingly, Design Management should be evaluated by objective and correct criterion. Generally, the amount of income achieved through design activity may be applied as an index for evaluation, but it is difficult to quantify the evaluation on design activity using such standard. In this research, factors that can affect the process of design activity were extracted and relationship among the factors were analyzed to make the good use of them as objective data for evaluation. In addition, we aim to make this data to be not only simple utilization of evaluation material, but also a rationale to extend and develop design management activity in the future. Especially, in small and middle enterprises, introduction of Design Management is delayed due to the lack of understanding or financial burdens, and study on this field is not found. Under such conditions, introduction or expansion of efficient design management by small and middle enterprises is not expected. In this paper, a direction to facilitate understanding of Design Management by Small and Middle Enterprises and move forward in harmony with diverse factors of Design Management through self-diagnosis style evaluation is suggested.
