<P>Among the various Ni-based layered oxide systems in the form of LiNi1-y-zCoyAlzO2 (NCA), the compostions between y = 0.1-0.15, z = 0.05 are the most successful and commercialized cathodes used in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). However, tremendous research effort has been dedicted to searching for better composition in NCA systems to overcome the limitations of these cathodes, particularly those that arise when they are used use at high discharge/charge rates (>5C) and in high temperature (60 degrees C) environments. In addition, improving the thermal stability at 4.5 V is also very important in terms of the total amount of heat generated and the onset temperature. Here, a new NCA composition in the form of LiNi0.81Co0.1Al0.09O2 (y = 0.1, z = 0.09) is reported for the first time. Compared to the LiNi0.85Co0.1Al0.05O2 cathode, LiNi0.81Co0.1Al0.09O2 exhibits an excellent rate capability of 155 mAh g(-1) at 10 C with a cut-off voltage range between 3 and 4.5 V, corresponding to 562 Wh kg(-1) at 24 degrees C. It additionally provides significantly improved thermal stability and electrochemical performance at the high temperature of 60 degrees C, with a discharge capacity of 122 mAh g(-1) after 200 cycles with capacity retention of 59%.</P>
대학생의 삶의 의미 추구, 영적 안녕과 우울 간의 관계

본 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 삶의 의미 추구와 영적 안녕 및 우울 간의 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 의미 추구가 우울에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 영적 안녕의 하위 요인인 종교적 안녕과 실존적 안녕의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 대학생 225명을 대상으로 삶의 의미 척도, 우울 척도, 영적 안녕 척도를 사용한 설문조사를 실시하고, 구조 방정식 모형을 사용하여 요인 간 관계를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과를 살펴보면 대학생의 의미 추구는 종교적 안녕과 실존적 안녕에 유의한 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 종교적 안녕은 우울을 증가시키는 효과를, 실존적 안녕은 우울을 감소시키는 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 의미 추구는 종교적 안녕과 실존적 안녕을 매개로 우울에 영향을 미쳤다. 종교적 안녕과 실존적 안녕의 매개 효과 크기를 비교한 결과 실존적 안녕의 매개 효과가 종교적 안녕보다 유의하게 큰 것으로 나타났다. 즉 대학생들이 의미추구를 할 때 종교적 안녕을 거쳐 우울을 높이는 반면, 실존적 안녕을 거쳐서는 우울을 낮추며 이 효과는 종교적 안녕보다 큰 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 의미 추구가 긍정적 효과를 내는 매개 요인으로 영적 안녕을 살펴보았다는 의의가 있다. 또한 종교적 안녕과 영적 안녕이 우울에 각기 다른 방향으로 영향을 주는 것을 밝혔다. 따라서 대학생 우울을 감소시키기 위해서는 단순히 대학생의 의미 추구를 독려하는 것 뿐 아니라, 대학생의 실존적 안녕을 높일 수 있는 대안개발이 필요할 것이다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between search for meaning, spiritual well-being and depression in Korean college students. 220 college students were participated in survey included meaning in life questionnaire, center of epidemiologic studies depression scale, and spiritual well-being scale. And the structural equation modeling were examined to explore the mediating effect of spiritual well-being on process that search for meaning influence to depression. The results were followed. Correlational analysis showed that search for meaning was positively associated with religious well-being, existential well-being and depression. Also religious well-being and existential well-being were positively associated with depression. In structural equation modeling, search for meaning had effects to religious well-being and existential well-being positively. The religious well-being had positive effect on depression, otherwise existential well-being had negative effect on depression. Also search for meaning significantly influenced on depression mediated by religious well-being and existential well-being only. In addition, existential well-being had bigger indirect effect than religious well-being. The results of this study showed that search for meaning had a significant effect on depression though spiritual well-being. Indeed religious well-being and existential well-being had the counter effects on depression. Therefore this findings suggest that it is necessary to build the strategies in focus on existential well-being to reduce the depression among Korean college students.

<▼1><P>A nano-scale surface protecting layer of LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 consisting of substituted V<SUP>4+</SUP> ions in 3b sites leads to structural robustness under the most challenging test conditions.</P></▼1><▼2><P>In order to overcome the inherent structural instability of bare LixNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (BNCA) containing large amounts of LiOH and Li2CO3 impurities at 60 and >200 °C, an effective nanoscale layer was generated by coating BNCA with an ammonium vanadate precursor, followed by annealing at 400 °C. This process forms a 17 nm thick surface layer containing V<SUP>4+</SUP> ions in the transition metal 3b sites, thereby decreasing the thickness of the cation-mixing layer, which is the main factor responsible for destabilizing the surface structure. Such a coating also helps in substantially reducing the amount of surface impurities of LiOH, Li2CO3, and H2O by forming LiVO2, LiV2O5, VO2, and V2O5. Consequently, at 60 °C, vanadium-treated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (VNCA) demonstrated excellent cyclability with a discharge capacity of 179 mA h g<SUP>−1</SUP> after 200 cycles (after 17 days) between 3 and 4.3 V, corresponding to 90% capacity retention, which is 18% higher than the capacity retention measured for BNCA. More importantly, VNCA exhibits a significantly reduced heat generation and a higher onset temperature for exothermic reactions.</P></▼2>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An environmentally favorable (chlorine-free) solid oxidizer, guanidinium dinitramide [GDN; NH<SUB>2</SUB>C(NH<SUB>2</SUB>)NH<SUB>2</SUB>N(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>], was newly synthesized from guanidine carbonate [NH<SUB>2</SUB>C(NH)NH<SUB>2</SUB>·1/2H<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB>]. Two different crystalline forms (α-type and β-type) appeared according to the applied solvents and synthesis conditions. Moisture, during extraction, might become trapped in a crystal between inner molecules. Therefore, despite having the same chemical composition, Raman-IR and TGA-DSC revealed different physical characteristics of the two forms. Peaks of Raman shift near 1000cm<SUP>−1</SUP> implied different chemical structures. Thermal analysis revealed an exothermic temperature 155.7°C for α-type but one of 191.6°C for β-type. The caloric value of α-type was 536.4J/g, which was 2.5 times larger than that of the β-type, which was 1310J/g. While the synthesized GDN of α-type showed a steep exothermic decomposition, the β-type was slowly decomposed after melting through an endothermic process. This work implied that despite of the same molecular formula some different core thermal properties would appear depending on synthesis conditions.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Prevalence Risk of Metabolic Syndrome Associated with Alcohol Use Behavior in Korean Women

Objective-Considerable research has been conducted on the relationship between alcohol consumption and metabolic syndrome. Although various standards for the amount and frequency of alcohol consumption have been suggested, a tool to measure individual alcohol use behavior against a consistent standard is required. Moreover, the association of alcohol use behavior with health should be examined on the basis of such a standard. In this study, we examined the relationships between alcohol use behavior according to the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and metabolic syndrome and its components in Korean women. Methods-This study utilized data from the fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which was administered from 2010 through 2012. We investigated the relationships between alcohol use behavior and metabolic syndrome and its components in a sample of 2,906 women by using analysis of covariance and logistic regression analysis. Results-After adjusting for confounding variables, alcohol use behavior was significantly associated with metabolic syndrome [odds ratio (OR) 2.877; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.523–5.435 in the problem use group]. AUDIT score also was significantly related to abdominal obesity (OR 2.263; 95% CI 1.704–4.459 in the problem use group), hypertension (OR 3.377; 95% CI 1.871–6.095 in the problem use group), hypertriglyceridemia (OR 3.204; 95% CI 1.800–5.702 in the problem use group), and impaired fasting glucose (OR 3.034; 95% CI 1.721–5.348 in the problem use group). Conclusion-In this study, positive associations were observed between AUDIT score and risk of metabolic syndrome and its components.

<P>Herein, we report a simple fabrication of hybrid nanowires (NWs) composed of a p-type conjugated polymer (CP) and n-type inorganic quantum dots (QDs) by exploiting the crystallization-driven solution assembly of poly(3-hexylthiophene)-<I>b</I>-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P3HT-<I>b</I>-P2VP) rod–coil amphiphiles. The visualization of the crystallization-driven growth evolution of hybrid NWs through systematic transmission electron microscopy experiments showed that discrete dimeric CdSe QDs bridged by P3HT-<I>b</I>-P2VP polymers were generated during the initial state of crystallization. These, in turn, assemble into elongated fibrils, forming the coaxial P3HT-<I>b</I>-P2VP/QDs hybrid NWs. In particular, the location of the QD arrays within the single strand of P3HT-<I>b</I>-P2VP can be controlled precisely by manipulating the regioregularity (RR) values of P3HT block and the relative lengths of P2VP block. The degree of coaxiality of the QD arrays was shown to depend on the coplanarity of the thiophene rings of P3HT block, which can be controlled by the RR value of P3HT block. In addition, the location of QDs could be regulated at the specific-local site of P3HT-<I>b</I>-P2VP NW according to the surface characteristics of QDs. <P>The amphiphilic block codendrimer self-assembled into supramolecular vesicles with a bilayer membrane in both hydrophilic and hydrophobic solvents.
