Silica nanoparticles were synthesized with various silane coupling agents to make specific pathway of electrons and anti-recombination system when solidifying liquid electrolytes. In this study, we used an appropriate method of synthesis for activated silica nanoparticles and silane coupling agents with 3-(triethoxysilyl)propionitrile, Trimethoxy[3-(methylamino)propyl]silane, Triethoxyoctylsilane, and octadecyltrimethoxy silane. Dye-sensitized solar cells using solidified electrolytes with silica nanoparticles exhibit comparatively excellent efficiency, ranging from 2.3 to 7.0% under similar conditions.

<P>ZnO-nanowire-based logic circuits were constructed by the vertical integration of multilayered field-effect transistors (FETs) on plastic substrates. ZnO nanowires with an average diameter of -100 nm were synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition for use as the channel material in FETs. The ZnO-based FETs exhibited a high I(ON)/I(OFF) of > 10(6), with the characteristic of n-type depletion modes. For vertically integrated logic circuits, three multilayer FETs were sequentially prepared. The stacked FETs were connected in series via electrodes, and C-PVPs were used for the layer-isolation material. The NOT and NAND gates exhibited large logic-swing values of -93%. These results demonstrate the feasibility of three dimensional flexible logic circuits.</P>
Gene Cloning and Nucleotide Sequence of Human Dihydrolipoamide Dehydrogenase-Binding Protein

The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC), a member of $\alpha$-keto acid dehydrogenase complex, catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate with the formation of $CO_2$, acetyl-CoA, NADH, and $H^+$. This complex contains multiple copies of three catalytic components including pyruvate dehydrogenase (E1), dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase (E2), and dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase (E3). Two regulatory components (E1-kinase and phospho-E1 phosphatase) and functionally less-understood protein (protein X, E3BP) are also involved in the formation of the complex. In this study, we have partially cloned the gene for E3BP in human. Nine putative clones were isolated by human genomic library screening with 1.35 kb fragment of E3BP cDNA as a probe. For investigation of cloned genes, Southern blot analysis and the construction of the restriction map were performed. One of the isolated clones, E3BP741, has a 3 kb-SacI fragment, which contains 200 bp region matched with E3BP cDNA sequences. The matched DNA sequence encodes the carboxyl-terminal portion of lipoyl-bearing domain and hinge region of human E3BP. Differences between yeast E3BP and mammalian E3BP coupled with the remarkable similarity between mammalian E2 and mammalian E3BP were confirmed from the comparison of the nucleotide sequence and the deduced amino acid sequence in the cloned E3BP. Cloning of human E3BP gene and analysis of the gene structure will facilitate the understanding of the role(s) of E3BP in mammalian PDC.
전곡 지역 제4기 현무암질 암석의 <SUP>40</SUP>Ar-<SUP>39</SUP>Ar 연대 측정

한반도 중부 전곡 지역 한탄강 유역에는 제4기 시기에 분출한 현무암질 암석들이 화산대지 및 하식절벽으로서 분포한다. 국내 최초로 도입된 다검출기 불활성기체 질량분석기와 레이저 가열장치를 이용하여 전곡 지역에서 산출하는 현무암질 암석의 <SUP>40</SUP>Ar-<SUP>39</SUP>Ar 연대를 측정하였다. 전곡읍 은대리 지역 하식절벽의 현무암들은 하부에서 상부로 가면서 0.54±0.07 Ma, 0.48±0.01 Ma, 0.12±0.01 Ma의 연대를 나타내며 전곡리 지역의 현무암에서 0.43±0.04 Ma의 연대가 얻어진다. 이 결과는 0.12-0.54 Ma 사이에 전곡 지역에 단속적인 화산암의 분출이 있었을 가능성을 시사한다. Quaternary basaltic rocks occur as volcanic plateau and/or river cliff in the watershed area of Hantan River in Jeongok, central Korea. We measured <SUP>40</SUP>Ar-<SUP>39</SUP>Ar ages for the basaltic rocks from Jeongok area using the multi-collector noble gas mass spectrometer and laser heating device introduced for the first time in Korea. The basaltic rocks from the river cliff in Eundae-ri area show the systematic change in <SUP>40</SUP>Ar-<SUP>39</SUP>Ar ages from 0.54±0.07 Ma through 0.48±0.01 Ma to 0.12±0.01 Ma toward the top. The other sample from Jeongok-ri area yields the age of 0.43±0.04 Ma. This results suggest that there might be a episodic volcanic eruption between 0.12-0.54 Ma in Jeongok area.
