The effect of phosphorus deficiency on the bacteroid content and energy status of soybean nodules

Israel, Daniel W,Sa, Tongmin 한국농화학회 1990 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.33 No.4

Investigations were conducted to examine the effects of phosphorus deficiency on energy status and functioning of soybean nodules. Phosphorus deficiency decreased ATP and total adenylate concentrations in and energy charge and specific nitrogenase activity of whole nodules. The bacteroid content per unit nodule mass and the distribution of total nitrogen and total phosphorus among the bacteroid and host cell fractions of nodules were not affected by phosphorus deficiency. Long term phosphorus-deficiency did not affect the energy charge and ATP concentration in the bacteroid fraction, whereas, these parameters decreased significantly in the host plant cell fraction. Energy charge and ATP concentration in the bacteroid fraction did not change during onset of and recovery from phosphorus deficiency. Conversely, energy charge and ATP concentration in the host plant cell fraction decreased significantly during onset of phosphorus deficiency and increased significantly during recovery from phosphorus deficiency. These results suggest that phosphorus deficiency decrease the specific nitrogenase activity of soybean nodules by inhibiting an energy dependent, reactions) in the host plant cells of nodules.

( Israel Arogundade Ojo ),( Olufunmilola Leah Dominic ),( Wale Johnson Adeyemi ) 대한물리의학회 2021 대한물리의학회지 Vol.16 No.2

PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of an eight weeks twenty meters walk on the cardiorespiratory fitness and strength of the shoulder extensor, hip extensor, and dorsiflexor of stroke survivor outpatients in two tertiary hospitals in Osogbo, Nigeria. METHODS: A purposive sampling technique was used to select 21 registered right or left outpatient hemiplegic stroke survivors in a pre- and post-test experimental research design. The research questions were presented using the descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The differences between the mean of the cardio-respiratory indices and the muscle strength were tested by repeated measures analysis of variance followed by Bonferroni post-hoc test for multiple comparisons. RESULTS: No significant differences in heart rate were observed at week 0 compared to week 4. A significant decrease was recorded in the parameter at week 8, compared to week 4. Moreover, there were significant decreases in blood pressure and respiratory rate in week 0, compared to week 4, and in the respiratory rate, compared to week 8. In contrast, significant elevations in VO2 max were observed in week 0, compared to week 4, and in the week 4, compared to week 8. Furthermore, significant elevations in muscular strength were documented when comparisons were made at weeks 0, 4, and 8. CONCLUSION: Eight weeks of twenty meters walk aerobic exercise improve the cardio-respiratory fitness and muscular strength of stroke survivor outpatients.

Influence of supplemental canola or soybean oil on milk yield, fatty acid profile and postpartum weight changes in grazing dairy goats

        Israel Lerma-Reyes,German D. Mendoza-Martinez,Rolado Rojo-Rubio,Mario Mejia,J.C. Garcia-Lopez,Hector A. Lee-Rangel 아세아·태평양축산학회 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.2

Objective: This experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of supplementation with soybean or canola oil on milk production and the composition of long chain fatty acids as well as weight changes in the goats and their kids. Methods: Thirty nine mulitparous crossed Alpine×Nubian goats (initial body weight [BW] 43.5±1.7 kg) from the day of parturition were assigned to the treatments: grazing control (n = 15); grazing plus 20 mL/goat/d of supplemental soybean oil (n = 12); and grazing plus 20 mL/goat/d of supplemental canola oil (n = 12) from November 26, 2014 to March 7, 2015. The planned contrasts were: CI (control vs supplemented with oils); CII (soybean vs canola oil) to compare the treatment effects. Results: The vegetable oil supplementation reduced weight losses in lactating goats (CI: –0.060 vs 0.090 kg/d; p = 0.03) but did not improve milk production or affect kids’ growth. The content of C4, C6, C8, C10, C11, C14, and C18:1n9t in the milk was increased (p<0.05) with respect to control. However, C12, C14, C16, C18, C18:1n9c, C18:2n6c, and C18:3n3 were reduced (p<0.05) in supplemented goats. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) was increased (p<0.05) in goats supplemented with oils compared to the control group. Conclusion: Supplementation with 20 mL/d of soybean or canola oil did not affect milk production or kids’ performance; however, it increased CLA concentration and reduced the reduced weight losses in lactating goats.

Agrobacterium-Mediated Co-transformation of Multiple Genes in Metarhizium robertsii

        ( Israel Enrique Padilla-guerrero ),( Michael J. Bidochka ) 한국균학회 2017 Mycobiology Vol.45 No.2

Fungi of the Metarhizium genus are a very versatile model for understanding pathogenicity in insects and their symbiotic relationship with plants. To establish a co-transformation system for the transformation of multiple M. robertsii genes using Agrobacterium tumefaciens, we evaluated whether the antibiotic nourseothricin has the same marker selection efficiency as phosphinothricin using separate vectors. Subsequently, in the two vectors containing the nourseothricin and phosphinothricin resistance cassettes were inserted eGFP and mCherry expression cassettes, respectively. These new vectors were then introduced independently into A. tumefaciens and used to transform M. robertsii either in independent events or in one single cotransformation event using an equimolar mixture of A. tumefaciens cultures. The number of transformants obtained by cotransformation was similar to that obtained by the individual transformation events. This method provides an additional strategy for the simultaneous insertion of multiple genes into M. robertsii.

Automatic progressive damage detection of rotor bar in induction motor using vibration analysis and multiple classifiers

        Israel Cruz-Vega,Jose Rangel-Magdaleno,Juan Ramirez-Cortes,Hayde Peregrina-Barreto 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.6

There is an increased interest in developing reliable condition monitoring and fault diagnosis systems of machines like induction motors; such interest is not only in the final phase of the failure but also at early stages. In this paper, several levels of damage of rotor bars under different load conditions are identified by means of vibration signals. The importance of this work relies on a simple but effective automatic detection algorithm of the damage before a break occurs. The feature extraction is based on discrete wavelet analysis and autocorrelation process. Then, the automatic classification of the fault degree is carried out by a binary classification tree. In each node, comparing the learned levels of the breaking off correctly identifies the fault degree. The best results of classification are obtained employing computational intelligence techniques like support vector machines, multilayer perceptron, and the k-NN algorithm, with a proper selection of their optimal parameters.

      • Understanding the Relevance of Oro Festival in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State Nigeria: Implications for Seventh-day Adventist Christian Mission

        ( Israel B. Olaore ) 삼육대학교 선교와사회문제연구소 2017 Asia-Africa Journal of Mission and Ministry(AAMM) Vol.16 No.-

Oro festival, a tradition among the Yoruba people of Southwest Nigeria, serves as a political, spiritual and judicial hallmark of the culture. Restrictions of movement and other punitive measures hold the females in the society to ransom during the Oro festival. This study examined the practice of Oro among the indigenes of Ilishan-Remo Ogun State Nigeria. Functionalist theory of religion formed the theoretical framework for examining the structures within the Oro festival. Seventy-four males and thirty-nine females were interviewed. Findings reveal themes of prayer, fun, male dominance, unity and rest, among others. The study finds that for the indigenes, Oro is a viable means of prayer for the carrying away of sin, receiving protection, prosperity, fertility of women, great harvests and males wanting to have fun. Presenting the Day of Atonement as a type and Jesus as our High priest is a viable mission option. It is concluded that Charles Kraft’s Dynamic Equivalence Churches Model be applied to create an alternative Annual Special Community Day of Prayer and Fun that will compensate for the Oro festival.

25-Hydroxyvitamin D level is sociated with mortality in patients with critical COVID-19: a prospective observational study in Mexico City

        Israel Parra-Ortega,Diana Guadalupe Alcara-Ramirez,Alma Angelica Ronzon-Ronzon,Fermin Elias-Garcia,Jose Agustin Mata-Chapol,Alejandro Daniel Cervantes-Cot,Briceida Lopez-Martinez,Miguel Angel Villasis 한국영양학회 2021 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.15 No.S

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Considering the high number of deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Latin American countries, together with multiple factors that increase the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency, we aimed to determine 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels and its association with mortality in patients with critical COVID-19. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This was a prospective observational study including adult patients with critical COVID-19. Data, including clinical characteristics and 25(OH)D levels measured at the time of intensive care unit admission, were collected. All patients were followed until hospital discharge or in-hospital death. The patients were divided into those surviving and deceased patient groups, and univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine independent predictors of in hospital mortality. RESULTS: The entire cohort comprised 94 patients with critical COVID-19 (males, 59.6%; median age, 61.5 years). The median 25(OH)D level was 12.7 ng/mL, and 15 (16%) and 79 (84%) patients had vitamin D insufficiency and vitamin D deficiency, respectively. The median serum 25(OH)D level was significantly lower in deceased patients compared with surviving (12.1 vs. 18.7 ng/mL, P < 0.001). Vitamin D deficiency was present in 100% of the deceased patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, body mass index, other risk factors, and 25(OH)D level were independent predictors of mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D deficiency was present in 84% of critical COVID-19 patients. Serum 25(OH)D was independently associated with mortality in critical patients with COVID-19.

Reduction of product platform complexity by vectorial Euclidean algorithm

Israel Aguilera Navarrete,Alejandro A. Lozano Guzmán 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.11

In traditional machine, equipment and devices design, technical solutions are practically independent, thus increasing designs cost and complexity. Overcoming this situation has been tackled just using designer’s experience. In this work, a product platform complexity reduction is presented based on a matrix representation of technical solutions versus product properties. This matrix represents the product platform. From this matrix, the Euclidean distances among technical solutions are obtained. Thus, the vectorial distances among technical solutions are identified in a new matrix of order of the number of technical solutions identified. This new matrix can be reorganized in groups with a hierarchical structure, in such a way that modular design of products is now more tractable. As a result of this procedure, the minimum vector distances are found thus being possible to identify the best technical solutions for the design problem raised. Application of these concepts is shown with two examples.

      • Game Theory Applied to Urban Traffic Control Problem

Israel Alvarez,Alexander Poznyak 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

Traffic congestion is an issue in every major city. Among many approaches the game theory has presented feasible solutions. In this paper, a noncooperative approach which gives rise to a noncooperative game is studied, we propose to model signalized intersections as finite controlledMarkov chains and a solution to optimize the congestion into an avenue. Each intersection is seen as noncooperative game where each player try to minimize its queue, so ?? Nash’s equilibrium and Stackelberbg equilibrium are the solutions. This paper is focused on the traffic light control problem for urban traffic, using Game Theory and Extraproximal Method for its realization. The examples show the effectiveness of the suggested approach.
