        A novel slippery liquid infused porous aluminum conductor with excellent corrosion resistance in simulated marine atmosphere

        The overhead aluminum conductors are prone to corrosion, especially in areas with marine climates,which interferes with the safe operation of the power system. Herein, slippery liquid infused porous surface(SLIPS) conductors were successfully prepared on pure aluminum (Bare) conductors by anodizingand infusion of silicone oil. The corrosion resistance of the conductors during 30 days of salt spray corrosionand 7 days of energized conditions was studied. The results indicated that the corrosion of theBare and anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) conductors was more severe under energized (alternating current(AC) and direct current (DC)) conditions. The exacerbation of corrosion by DC energization wasremarkably higher than that of AC energization. The AAO conductor showed better corrosion resistancethan the Bare conductor, which was attributed to the porous alumina retarding the medium intrusion. Due to the barrier effect provided by the lubricant layer, the SLIPS conductor always presented excellentcorrosion resistance than the Bare and AAO conductors. In addition, the mechanical and electrical propertiesof the SLIPS conductor were comparable to the Bare conductor and could satisfy the basic requirementsfor practical applications. The prepared SLIPS conductors offer great application prospects for thecorrosion protection of aluminum conductors.

        Separation and Characterization of Organic Chlorides in a Chinese Crude Oil

        A crude oil from Shengli oilfield of China was extracted with N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) for separation and enrichment of organic chlorides. The resulting extract with relatively higher chlorine concentration was analyzed with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Among the identified heteroatom compounds in the extract sample, nitrogen‐containing compounds were most abundant in the extract sample, followed by chlorine‐, sulfur‐, and oxygen‐containing compounds, respectively. Four organochlorines with an aromatic core structure, i.e., 5‐chloro‐2‐methylaniline, 2‐chloro‐6‐methylaniline, 4‐chloro‐2‐nitrotoluene, and 1‐(5‐chloro‐2‐hydroxyphenyl)ethanone, were identified from crude oil extract. The dominant abundant organic chloride is 5‐chloro‐2‐methylaniline with relative content of 65.1% in the total of identified organic chlorides, followed by 1‐(5‐chloro‐2‐hydroxyphenyl)ethanone of 16.3%, 2‐chloro‐6‐methylaniline of 14.5%, and 4‐chloro‐2‐nitrotoluene of 4.1%, respectively.

        RNAi-Mediated Gene Silencing of Trcot1 Induces a Hyperbranching Phenotype in Trichoderma reesei

        Trichoderma reesei is the major filamentous fungus used to produce cellulase and there is huge interest in promoting its ability to produce higher titers of cellulase. Among the many factors affecting cellulase production in T. reesei, the mycelial phenotype is important but seldom studied. Herein, a close homolog of the Neurospora crassa COT1 kinase was discovered in T. reesei and designated TrCOT1, which is of 83.3% amino acid sequence identity. Functional disruption of Trcot1 in T. reesei by RNAi-mediated gene silencing resulted in retarded sporulation on potato dextrose agar and dwarfed colonies on minimal medium agar plates containing glucose, xylan, lactose, xylose, or glycerol as the sole carbon source. The representative mutant strain, SUS2/Trcot1i, also displayed reduced mycelia accumulation but hyperbranching in the MM glucose liquid medium, with hyphal growth unit length values decreased to 73.0 μm/tip compared to 239.8 μm/tip for the parent strain SUS2. The hyperbranching phenotype led to slightly but significantly increased cellulase secretion from 24 to 72 h in a batch culture. However, the cellulase production per unit of mycelial biomass was much more profoundly improved from 24 to 96 h.

        Stable Cu-Co/C carbon-based composites for efficiency catalytic degradation of Orange II by PMS: Effect factors, application potential analysis, and mechanism

        Carbon-based metallic catalysts (CMCs) have emerged as efficient materials for removing water contaminants,but preparing CMCs with high efficiency and stability remains a great challenge. In this study, weprepared a bimetallic composite of Cu-Co/C catalyst via a gelation and calcination method to degradeOrange II by activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The characterization results demonstrated that thespecific surface area and pore size of Cu-Co/C catalysts were 1.675 m2/g and 6.313 nm, respectively,which can provide larger catalytic active sites for boosting PMS activation. Moreover, the effects of differentfactors on Orange II degradation efficiency, cyclic experiments, and possible application in realwater bodies were investigated. The Cu-Co/C catalyst can effectively activate PMS, and 50 mg/L ofOrange II was almost completely removed within 15 min. Additionally, the Cu-Co/C catalyst exhibitedhigh degradation efficiency for other organic dye pollutants. The radical quenching experiments indicatedthat the main active species for Cu-Co/C catalyzed degradation of Orange II were SO4and singlet oxygen(1O2). The catalyst demonstrated good stability and performance in real water bodies. We believe thatthis study will promote the application of carbon-based bimetallic catalysts in the environmental remediationprocess that utilize SO4based advanced oxidation.

        Measurement of the radon and thoron exhalation rates from the water surface of Yixin lake

        The importance of determining the radon exhalation rate from water surface is emphasized by the increased use of radon and its daughter products as tracers in large-scale circulation studies of the atmosphere. There were many methods to measure radon exhalation from water surface. With the development of radon exhalation rate measurement methods and instruments on the surface of the soil, the rock and building materials, so the radon exhalation rate from water surface can be more accurately measured by applying these improved methods and instruments. In this paper, a cuboid accumulation chamber surrounded by foam boards and a RAD7 were used to measure the radon exhalation rate on the water surface at three different positions by Yixin lake. Each measurement was performed 2 h. The radon exhalation rate from the water surface was about 6 × 10<sup>-3</sup> Bq m<sup>-2</sup>s<sup>-1</sup>. The thoron exhalation rate from the water surface also can be estimated, it is about 0.16 Bq m<sup>-2</sup>s<sup>-1</sup>. These results hint that the radon transmission from the lake bottom soil to water and then into the atmosphere.
