        안면 비대칭의 평가를 위한 기준에 관한 정보 두부 방사선 계측학적 연구

        This study was undertaken to investigate the middle having the least difference between the right and left structures among the lines that had been used in the study of the craniomaxillofacial asymmetry. The sample of this study consisted of twenty six Korean girls(average 18.9 years old) having normal facial appearance and occlusion. On the frontal cephalometric films of the sample, we divided the whole craniomaxillifacial area into four portions, i.e., cranial, upper facial, lower facial, and dental portion. So, we have found the midlines having the least difference in the whole craniomaxillofacial area itself, and in the each divided four portions, furtherly in the other portions from aimed portion. The findings were as follow : 1. In the whole craniomaxillofacial area, the connecting line between crista galli and anterior nasal spine and the perpendicular bisecting line between right and left foramen rotundrums were suitable for the midline. 2. In the cranial portion, established all six lines were suitable for midlines. In the other portions, the perpendicular bisection line between both condylion, the line passing the contact point between right and left mandibular central insisiors among the perpendicular lines between right and left mandibular central incisial tips were suitable midlines for evaluating the asymmetry of cranial portion. 3. In the upper facial portion, the perpendicular bisecting line between right and left zygions was the most suitable midline. In the other portions, the line between the crista galli and the most superior point of the odontoid process, the perpendicular bisecting line between right and left gonions, the perpendicular bisecting line between right and left condylions, and perpendicular bisecting line between right and left foramens rotundum were suitable midlines for evaluating the asymmetry of the upper facial portion. 4. In the dental portion, the perpendicular bisecting lines between right and left buccal cusps of both maxillary first molars and between right and left mandibular first molars were suitable midlines. In the other portions, the perpendicular bisecting line between right and left landmarks crossing the lesser wing of the connecting line between crista galli and prosthion were suitable midlines for evaluating the asymmetry of dental portion. 5. In the lower facial portion, the perpendicular bisecting lines between right and left condylions and between right and left gonions were suitable midlines. In the other portions, the line between the crista galli and anterior nasal spine, the perpendicular bisecting line between right and left foramen rotundums, and the perpendicular bisecting lines between right and left buccal cusps of both mandibular first molars and between right and left maxillary first molars were suitable midlines for evaluating the asymmetry of the lower facial portion.

        Early Experience of Pre- and Post-Contrast 7.0T MRI in Brain Tumors

        <P>We investigated the safety and clinical applicability of 7.0 Tesla (T) brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with brain tumors. Twenty-four patients with intraaxial or extraaxial brain tumors were enrolled in this study. 7.0T MRIs of T2*-weighted axial and T1-weighted coronal or sagittal images were obtained and compared with 1.5T brain MRIs. The T2*-weighted images from 7.0T brain MRI revealed detailed microvasculature and the internal contents of supratentorial brain tumors better than that of 1.5T brain MRI. For brain tumors located in parasellar areas or areas adjacent to major cerebral vessels, flow-related artifacts were exaggerated in the 7.0T brain MRIs. For brain tumors adjacent to the skull base, susceptibility artifacts in the interfacing areas of the paranasal sinus and skull base hampered the aquisition of detailed images and information on brain tumors in the 7.0T brain MRIs. This study shows that 7.0T brain MRI can provide detailed information on the intratumoral components and margins in supratentorial brain tumors. Further studies are needed to develop refined MRI protocols for better images of brain tumors located in the skull base, parasellar, and adjacent major cerebrovascular structures.</P>

        Detection and Classification of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus Strains Using RT-PCR

        Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV), an aphid-borne luteovirus, is a major plant pathogenic disease causing a huge economic loss in the grain production of a wide range of Gramineae species throughout the world. It has been recently reported that BYDV also occurred frequently in wheat field of Korea. Here, we performed to develop the detection and classification methods of BYDV strains that were accomplished by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Since there are high variations among BYDV strains, three pairs of primers were designed to detect BYDV strains such as PAV (Vic-PAV and CN-PAV) and MAV (primer A) simultaneously, specifically Vic-PAV(primer B), and MAV (primer C) based on the genomic RNA sequences of BYDV strains previously published. The validity of the primers was confirmed using several BYDV strains obtained from CIMMYT. Though three BYDV strains were able to be detected using primer A, PCR products were not distinguished between two PAV strains. It was possible to separate them with a restriction enzyme, EcoRI, whose restriction site was present in the amplified DNA fragment from Vic-PAV, but not from CN-PAV.

        For cultivations of orchid plants, the Korean native orchid plant inhabiting (KNO) soils were collected from the Southern and Western areas in Korea, and employed for understanding the role of symbiotic fungi on the orchids. The parameters related to growth of the orchid plant were investigated after the young nurseries (plantlets) of Cymbidium goeringii, C. kanran, and Neofinetia falcata planted on the sterilized or unsterilized soils of KNO under the conditions of green house. The fresh weights or dried weights of all orchid plants grown on the unsterilized soil for 17 months were highly heavier than those grown on the sterilized soils. Thus, the differences of the plant growth were not found among the four different KNO soils. The various stages of peletons in the root cells of the orchid plants were distinguished from unsterilized soils, while those not quite often in the sterilized soils. Mineral nutrients (K, Ca, Mg, P) related to nitrogen were also measured in the individual plantlets for understanding the plant symbiosis. The nitrogen of the orchid plants absorbed in the unsterilized soils were measured to be comparatively greater than those in sterilized soils during the orchid plant growth. The other minerals of the orchid plants absorbed in the unsterilized soils were also measured to be comparatively greater than those in the sterilized soils. The metabolism of nitrogen were concluded to be much important, and were considered to stimulate the other mineral absorptions in growth of the orchid plants symbiotic with the fungi.

      • ELECTRODE POSITION DETERMINED BY FUSED IMAGES OF PREOPERATIVE AND POSTOPERATIVE MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING AND SURGICAL OUTCOME AFTER SUBTHALAMIC NUCLEUS DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION

        <B>Abstract</B><B>OBJECTIVE</B><P>The electrode position is important to the surgical outcome after subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS). The aim of this study was to compare the surgical outcome of bilateral STN DBS with the electrode position estimated using fused magnetic resonance imaging.</P><B>METHODS</B><P>Bilateral STN DBS was performed in 60 patients with advanced Parkinson's disease. Patients were evaluated with the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, Hoehn and Yahr staging, Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living, L-dopa equivalent dose, and Short Form-36 Health Survey before and at 3 and 6 months after surgery. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (1.5-T) was performed in 53 patients at 6 months after STN DBS. The electrode position was estimated in the fused pre- and postoperative magnetic resonance images and correlated with the surgical results.</P><B>RESULTS</B><P>As a group, the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, Hoehn and Yahr staging, Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living, and Short Form-36 Health Survey scores improved at 3 and 6 months after STN DBS. The L-dopa equivalent dose decreased by 60% at 3 and 6 months after STN DBS. The electrode position was divided into 6 types according to its relationship to the STN and the red nucleus. Most off-medication Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale motor subscale scores improved regardless of the type of electrode position. The off-medication speech subscale score improved only in the patients whose electrodes were correctly positioned in the STN bilaterally.</P><B>CONCLUSION</B><P>The electrodes accurately positioned in the STN led to improved speech after bilateral STN DBS. An effort should be made in each patient to document the electrode position to monitor surgical performance and to improve the surgical outcome after STN DBS.</P>

        Contrast-enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Brain Metastases at 7.0T versus 1.5T: A Preliminary Result

        Purpose: To compare the depiction of brain metastases on contrast-enhanced images with 7.0 tesla (T) and at 1.5T MRI. Materials and Methods: Four consecutive patients with brain metastases were scanned on 7.0T whole-body scanner and 1.5T MRI. A 3D T1-weighted gradient echo sequence (3D T1-GRE) at 1.5T (voxel size = $0.9{\times}0.9{\times}1.5mm^3$ after double-dose, gadoterate meglumine, Gd-DOTA) was compared to a 7.0T 3D T1-GRE sequence (voxel size = $0.4{\times}0.4{\times}0.8mm^3$, single-dose Gd-DOTA) in four patients after a 5 minute delay. The number of contrast-enhancing metastases in MPRAGE images was compared in each patient by two radiologists in consensus. We measured contrast ratio of enhancing brain metastases and white matter in 1.5T and 7.0T. Results: In all four patients 7.0T 3D T1-GRE images after single-dose Gd-DOTA and 1.5T after double-dose Gd-DOTA depicted 11 brain metastases equally. In the quantitative analysis of contrast ratios of enhancing brain metastases and white matter, the 1.5T 3D T1-GRE after double-dose showed an increased contrast ratio compared to 7.0T 3D T1-GRE after single-dose ($0.961{\pm}0.571$ versus $0.885{\pm}0.494$; n = 11 metastases). But this difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.711). Conclusion: Our preliminary results indicate that 7.0T single-dose Gd-enhanced images were not different to 1.5T double-dose Gd-enhanced images for the detection of brain metastases.

        옵션평가모형을 통한 기업연금제도의 보증가치에 관한 연구

        퇴직금제도가 기업연금제도로 이행됨에 있어 가장 중요한 변화는 퇴직금에 대한 지급보증이라는 측면이다. 그러나 흔히들 이 부분에 대해서는 간과하는 경향이 있으며 단지 퇴직금과 연금수리적으로 상응하는 기여율을 찾고 퇴직급여충당금이라는 사내적립금이 사외 적립되는데 따른 기회비용에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 지급보증의 가치를 Black-Scholes 옵션평가모형을 통해 산출해보았다. 상장기업을 대상으로 한 연구 결과 이 지급보증의 가치는 퇴직금중간정산제도가 실시되는 경우와 퇴직이전(근속년수 6년 가정)까지 퇴직금 수급이 불가능한 경우 퇴직금 1 원당 각각 0.003258원과 0.116703원에 이르는 것으로 나타나 기여율의 비율을 각각 0.16% 와 5.83%까지 낮출 수 있음을 보여주었다. In the transition of the Retirement Allowance System to corporate pension plan, the most important change lies in the guarantee of the Retirement Allowance. Nevertheless, it tends to be neglected by both employees and employers. Instead, they focused only on finding a proper contribution rate which will match with the amount of the Retirement Allowance from the actuarial standpoint or on the opportunity cost of transferring the retirement reserves into a trust fund outside the company. This study is intended to find out the value of the guarantee introduced by corporate pension plan using Option Pricing Model, originated by Black-Scholes. Even for the listed companies in Korea, the value was proved to be significant. For every 1won of Retirement Allowance, the value amounted to 0.003258won when withdrawal is allowed every year and 0.116703won when employees have to wait for 6years which is the average tenure period.
