      • Context - aware Multimedia Framework based on Software Agent Platforms

Vol.30 No.2Ⅱ

We address an integrated multimedia framework based on a software agent platform for context-aware multimedia computing. We adopt the FIPA (Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents) platform which provides agent communications and management mechanisms. In order to express context information, we use MPEG-21 metadata for describing user characteristics and usage environment. We encapsulate such context information as a FIPA message to be delivered between agents. Based on context information, appropriate multimedia content delivery becomes possible. We present our system implementation with a use case scenario and show that our proposed framework is effective for context-aware multimedia computing so that personalization of multimedia consumption can be possible.

      • A Selective Protection Scheme for Scalable Video Coding Based on Dependency Graph Model

Vol.2010 No.11

In this paper, we propose an efficient and effective selective protection scheme to SVC that exploit the propagation of protection effect by protecting significant frames that can give the maximum visual quality degradation. We model SVC dependency coding structure as a directed acyclic graph which is characterized with an estimated visual quality value as the attribute at each node. The estimated visual quality is calculated by using our model based on the proportions of intra- and inter-predicted MBs, amounts of residual, and estimated visual quality of reference frames. The proposed selective protection scheme traverses the graph to find optimal protection paths that can give maximum visual quality degradation. Experimental results show that the proposed selective protection scheme reduces the required number of frames to be protected by 46.02% compared to the whole protection scheme and 27.56% compared to the layered protection scheme.

      • An Optimal Selective Protection Scheme for Scalable Video Coding

Vol.2011 No.7

The fundamental problem of selective protection scheme for encoded bitstreams is to find an efficient algorithm to select the set of frames required to be encrypted that can maximize protection effect with the minimum amount of protected data is required. In this paper, we propose an optimal selective protection scheme for SVC bitstreams by protecting the best combination of frames for selective protection in the sense that the amount of data required for protection is minimized and the resulting visual quality degradation is maximized. The selection of the frames to be encrypted is done by first expressing R-Q (protection rate ? visual quality) relationship with Lagragian cost model. The experimental results show that, compared to protecting SVC bitstreams layer by layer, the proposed scheme gives superior performance in terms of protection effectiveness due to its better selection of frames for protection given protection bit budgets.

      • Web-based Controlled Delivery and Consumption of Multimedia in MPEG-21 Framework

Vol.2004 No.-

MPEG-21 is an on-progress project of the Moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG) that has been started in many independent parts such as part for standardizing the declaration of a digital item (MPEG-21 Part 2: Digital Item Declaration), right expression language (MPEG-21 Part 5: Rights Expression Language), way to process the digital item (MPEG-21 Part 10: Digital Item Processing), etc. All this part is intended to form a framework to enable transparent and augmented use of multimedia resources across a wide range of networks and devices [1]. In this paper, we show our research initiative to develop a web-based application that utilized many parts of MPEG-21 technology. The implemented concept uses a digital item and license providers in the server side while the MPEG-21 Conformant application is implemented as a plug-in application that will be downloaded to the user terminal when user accesses the webpage for the first time. The result of this research shows that with some combination of MPEG-21 parts, we can develop an authorized multimedia delivery and consumption application.

      • Design of an Efficient Frame Selection for Optimal Selective Protection Scheme for SVC Bitstreams

Vol.2011 No.-

      • Modeling Service based on XML Schema for MPEG Multimedia Middleware

        Hendry Hendry,Kim Mun-Churl Korea Multimedia Society 2006 한국멀티미디어학회지 Vol.10 No.1

Recently MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) has started a new standardization activity called MPEG Multimedia Middleware (M3W). The M3W supports multimedia applications Independent of hardware and software such as operating systems so that the portability and interoperability of multimedia applications are greatly improved. In doing so, the M3W adopts the concept of a service-based middleware. The M3W standardizes a set of multimedia Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and their implementations can be pro vided by third parties In the form of services. In this paper, we introduce the usage of XML metadata in describing the standard multimedia APIs and third party's services and also we explain the role of the XML Schema within the M3W in providing transparent access from application to the M3W services.

      • Do satisfied employees lead to satisfied patients? An empirical study in an Italian hospital

( Hendry Raharjo ),( Roberta Guglielmetti Mugion ),( Laura Di Pietro ),( Martina Toni ) 한국품질경영학회 2015 한국품질경영학회 학술대회 Vol.2015 No.2

Purpose The purpose of the study is to understand the relationship between care providers (employees) satisfaction and patient satisfaction and to identify the key drivers of their satisfaction. It is important because it will shape the policies in improving healthcare system, for example, through raising the well-being of physicians and nurses. According to service-profit chain theory, employee satisfaction will indirectly affect customer satisfaction through employee productivity and service value. Does this also apply in healthcare context? The EFQM-based 4P model (Dahlgaard et al., 2011) and Picker□s patient experience quality dimension (Jenkinson et al., 2002) are used as the theoretical basis for understanding their satisfaction relationship along with the key drivers. Methodology A cross-sectional survey was carried out in two wards (maternity and cardiology) in an Italian hospital. The questionnaires for the employees and patients were administered in the two wards at the same time from June to August 2014. For the employee satisfaction survey, 154 questionnaires were distributed and 73 completed questionnaires were returned (a response rate of 47.4%). For the patient satisfaction survey, 200 questionnaires were distributed (125 maternity, 75 cardiology) and 130 completed questionnaires were returned (a response rate of 65%). The final sample used for patient satisfaction analysis, however, was reduced to 102 questionnaires due to various reasons. Since we are interested in identifying key drivers for prediction purpose, the results are analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method with Smart PLS software (v.3.2.1). Furthermore, the PLS importance-performance matrix analysis (PLS-IPMA) was used to compare the latent variable scores of patient and employee overall satisfaction in the two wards and to identify improvement areas for the hospital management system. Findings We posed five hypotheses and found, for all except the last one, strong evidence from the data. For the 4P model, the data showed strong support for the influence of enablers on the results and eventually on employee satisfaction. The data also showed strong support for the impact of patient experience on patient overall satisfaction and eventually on loyalty. For the last hypothesis, we found that higher patient satisfaction level in one ward is associated with higher employee satisfaction in the same ward. This is supported by the mean and median values of the latent scores, but unfortunately not by the p-value. Other findings include key drivers of patient and employee satisfaction along with improvement priorities for each ward. Originality and value Our study is probably the first study that contextually adopted the 4P model (Dahlgaard et al., 2011) and the Picker□s patient experience questionnaire (Jenkinson et al., 2002) as the theoretical foundations for measuring, respectively, employee and patient satisfaction. Furthermore, this paper proposes the use of PLS-SEM in the healthcare managerial context as a powerful statistical technique for identifying key drivers of employee and patient satisfaction and improvement priorities (PLS-IPMA).

Protection to the multimedia contents is inevitable to ensure that only authorized users be able to access the protected contents for consumption. Since protection mechanisms need to be designed efficiently by exploiting the type of the contents, we propose a protection scheme for the video bitstream encoded by Scalable Video Coding (SVC) technique. Our scheme exploits the property of SVC in which a video is encoded into spatial, temporal, and quality scalability layers. By applying our proposed protection scheme to the appropriate scalability layers we can effectively control the SVC contents completely or partially. Each layer can be flexibly protected with different encryption keys or even with different encryption algorithms. The algorithms that are used to protect each layer are described by the standardized protection description tool, which is the MPEG-21 Intellectual Property Management and Protection (IPMP) Components. In this paper, we present the design of the proposed layered SVC protection scheme, its implementation and experimental results. The experiment result shows that the proposed layered SVC protection scheme is very effective and can easily be applied.
