Second-Level Agenda Setting Effects: The Internet Portal Sites’ Visual Framing of the 2012 Korean Presidential Candidates

        박경국,한세희,Hanna Park,Eunju Kang 한국학술연구원 2015 Korea Observer Vol.46 No.4

This study explored the effects of second-level agenda setting through visual framing on portal sites during the 2012 Korean presidential campaign. To examine how the political bias of digital news affected visual images of candidates, two major portal sites, most online newspapers, and diverse visual attributes were adopted. The data sample (n = 625) focused on the photographs of Park Geun- Hye as a conservative candidate and Moon Jae-In as a progressive. The results demonstrated that Park’s photographs were most positively covered in conservative online newspapers in the conservative portal, while Moon’s photographs were most favorably covered in progressive online newspapers in the progressive portal. These results show that portal sites serve as not only news aggregators and providers, but also as online gatekeepers.

Evaluation of Tool Life in the Dry Machining of Inconel 718 Parts from Additive Manufacturing (AM)

Eunju Park,Dong Min Kim,Hyung Wook Park,Young-Bin Park,Namhun Kim 한국정밀공학회 2020 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.21 No.1

The need for developing sustainable manufacturing processes are more and more increasing due to environmental regulations that are introduced worldwide. In the field of manufacturing metallic parts, the dry machining process is the effective way to reduce the costs of production and to avoid harm in environment and human health. Especially, Inconel 718 parts, which is very popular in aerospace, chemical, and nuclear industries, produced with additive manufacturing require a finishing process for quality assurance to rough and porous surfaces after printing process. Generally, machining of difficult-to cut materials such as Inconel 718 need the cutting fluids to improve the surface integrity and tool life. The present work investigates the effect of microstructure life of the Inconel 718 part produced by additive manufacturing on the tool compared with the wrought Inconel 718 part during the dry machining. The experimental findings show that the tool life of the Inconel 718 from AM is increased due to the melt pool microstructure formed by the laser irradiation though the hardness is higher than the wrought Inconel 718. Abrasive wear is strongly affected to tool life of the Inconel 718 from AM while adhesive and fracture wear is mostly found in the tool of wrought Inconel 718.

      • Protective Effects of Hydroponic-Cultured Ginseng Extract on H₂O₂-Induced Cytotoxicity in SK-N-SH Cells and Scopolamine-Induced Memory Impairment in Mice

        Eunju Park,Jiye Park,Yunjung Lee 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

This study investigated the protective effect of hydroponic-cultured ginseng(HG) against oxidative stress induced by H₂O₂ and demonstrated the protection against scopolamine induced memory impairment in mice. Neuronal cytotoxicity induced by H₂O₂ was diminished by two-year-old HG(HG-2, 5~100 μg/mL) detected by MTT assay. Strong protection against H₂O₂-induced DNA damage was also shown in HG-2 treated SK-H-SH cells measured by Comet assay. in vivo study, HG-2(150 mg/kg/d) and six-year-old ginseng(G-6;150 mg/kg/d) were administered orally to six-week-old mice for two weeks, followed by the induction of memory impairment by scopolamine(1 mg/kg/d, i.p.) for one week. At the end of the experimental period, cognitive behavior was examined by NORT and Y-maze tests. In NORT, effect of HG-2 was similar to that of the normal group and donepezil. In Y-maze test, performances of HG-2 and G-6 treated mice were similar to that of donepezil. Behavioral tests showed that the mice treated with HG-2 had improved cognitive function compared to that in mice administered G-6.Therefore, these results suggest that HG-2 could be a potential functional substance for improving cognitive function.

Genomic Structure of the Cu,Zn Superoxide Dismutase (SOD1) Gene of Paecillomyces tenuipes and Paecilomyces sp.

Park Nam Sook,Lee Kwang Sik,Lee Sang Mong,Je Yeon Ho,Park Eunju,Sohn Hung Dae,Jin Byung Rae Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2005 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.10 No.1

We describe here the complete nucleotide sequence and the exon-intron structure of the Cu,Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) gene of Paecilomyces tenuipes and Paecilomyces sp. The SOD1 gene of P. tenuipes spans 966 bp, and consisted of three introns and four exons coding for 154 amino acid residues. Three unambiguous introns in P. tenuipes separate exons of 13, 332, 97, and 20 bp, all exhibiting exon sizes identical to Cordyceps militaris SOD1 gene. The SOD1 gene of Paecilomyces sp. contains 946 bp and consisted of four introns and five exons coding for 154 amino acid residues. Five exons of Paecilomyces sp. SOD1 are composed of 13, 180, 152, 97, and 20 bp. Interestingly, this result showed that the total length of exons 2 (180 bp) and 3 (152 bp) of Paecilomyces sp. SOD1 is same to exon 2 length (332 bp) of C. militaris SOD1 and P. tenuipes SOD1. The deduced amino acid sequence of the P. tenuipes SOD1 showed $95\%$ identity to C. militaris SOD1 and $78\%$ to Paecilomyces sp. SOD1. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed that the C. militaris SOD1, P. tenuipes SOD1 and Paecilomyces sp. SOD1 are placed together within the ascomycetes group of fungal clade.

      • Effect of Makgeolli By-product supplementation on Lipid Profiles and Lipid Peroxidation in Rats with Loperamide-Induced Constipation

        Eunju Park,Soyoung Jeong,Yunjung Lee 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

In this study, we investigated the effect of Makgeolli byproduct on the lipid profiles and lipid peroxidation in Sprague-dawley rats with loperamide-induced constipation. Two types of Makgeolli by-products or commercially available fermented grain product was administered orally for two weeks following three days of loperamide treatment(4 mg/kg/d, i.p.). The effects of Makgeolli by-product were compared with those of sodium picosulfate, commonly used as a stimulant laxative. Following the induction of constipation in the rats, a marked increase was observed in the markers of plasma lipid peroxidation(TBARs and conjugated dienes). However, Makgeolli by-product, as well as commercial product and sodium picosulfate, alleviated the lipid peroxidation when compared with the loperamide control group. Also Makgeolli by-product group showed a significant decrease in plasma triglyceride, total cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol and an increase in HDL-cholesterol compared with the loperamide control group. These results indicated that Makgeolli by-product could ameliorate the lipid profiles and lipid peroxidation, along with laxative effect in loperamide-induced constipation.

      • A Study on Web Accessibility Compliance Rates Comparison of Domestic and Overseas Websites focused on Substitution Text Compliance of Image

Eunju Park,Hankyu Lim 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.10 No.7

Images represent a large share of web site contents. Image contents allow users to perceive information using vision, but visually handicapped people cannot perceive the information unless substitute texts that can replace vision are provided. Therefore, in this paper, the Web accessibility compliance status was compared between domestic and overseas sites around their compliance with substitute texts for images. The results indicate that the general Web accessibility compliance rates of domestic and overseas websites have not increased compared to 2013. However, the compliance with substitute texts for images in domestic sites was found to be continuously increasing, whereas it decreased in overseas sites.

Antioxidant Activity of Orange Flesh and Peel Extracted with Various Solvents

Park, Jae-Hee,Lee, Minhee,Park, Eunju The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition 2014 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.19 No.4

The aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant activity of orange (Citrus auranthium) flesh (OF) and peel (OP) extracted with acetone, ethanol, and methanol. Antioxidant potential was examined by measuring total phenolic content (TPC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity (RSA), total radical-trapping antioxidant potential (TRAP), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), and cellular antioxidant activity (CAA). The comet assay was used to determine the protective effects of OF and OP against $H_2O_2$-induced DNA damage. TPC was highest in the acetone extracts of OF and OP. DPPH RSA was also higher in the acetone extracts than in the ethanol extracts. The DPPH RSA was highest in the acetone extracts of OF. The TRAP and ORAC values of the all extracts increased in a dose-dependent manner. In the TRAP assay, the acetone extracts of OF and OP had the lowest $IC_{50}$ values. In the CAA assay, the methanol and acetone extracts of OP had the lowest $IC_{50}$ values. All of the samples protected against $H_2O_2$-induced DNA damage in human leukocytes, as measured by the comet assay, but the acetone extracts of OP had the strongest effect. These results suggest that acetone is the best solvent for the extraction of antioxidant compounds from OF and OP. Furthermore, the high antioxidant activity of OP, which is a by-product of orange processing, suggests that it can be used in nutraceutical and functional foods.

      • Protective Effects of Hydroponic-Cultured Ginseng on Scopolamine-Induced Memory Impairment in Mice

        Eunju Park,Jiye Park,Yunjung Lee 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

This study was performed to investigate the effect of hydroponic-cultured ginseng(HG) on memory improvement in the scopolamine-induced memory-deficient mouse model. Six-week-old male ICR mice were administerd orally by either two-year-old HG(HG-2) or six-year-old ginseng (G-6)(150 mg/kg/d, respectively) for two weeks and then treated with scopolamine(1 mg/kg/d, i.p.) for one week. The effects of HG-2 and G-6 were compared with those of Donepezil(2 mg/kg/d, p.o.), commonly used to treat confusion(dementia) related to Alzheimer’s disease. Oral administration of HG-2 and G-6 suppressed the scopolamine-mediated increase in acetylcholinesterase activity in the brain tissue. HG-2 group significantly increased choline acetyltransferase activity and decreased β-secretase activity in brain tissue than scopolamine-treated control group. In addition, HG-2 group showed a higher protective effect against scopolamine-induced DNA damage in leukocyte and brain tissue than in the G-6 or Donepezil treated groups. These results suggest that HG-2 could be a useful therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative disorders, notably Alzheimer’s disease(AD).
