This study conducted to develop the conceptual design for the submarine theme park in the Jeju marine ranching area. The submarine theme park was divided into three individual zonations of Marine tour, Sea culture and Eco park zone based on the traditional legend. The results from this study is expected to be used as a fundamental example of the marine ranching development in the future.
Evaluation of functional properties of lactobacilli isolated from Korean white kimchi

<P>Kimchi, probably Korea's most famous traditional fermented food, is well known for its beneficial properties. Among several hundred different types of kimchi in Korea, white (baek) kimchi is prepared without chilli and is widely appreciated also by non-Koreans because of its unique mild flavour. In an approach to identify the bacteriological basis for proposed health benefits, we isolated 11 Lactobacillus strains from six samples of white kimchi, and investigated their safety and functional features. These strains represented the species Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus sakei that dominated the populations within a range of 3 x 10(6) to 4 x 10(8) CFU/mL. Following safety assessment based on antibiotic resistance and biogenic amine production, 7 different strains were selected for further studies including evaluation of their adaptation to cabbage juice and resistance to phenol. Growth in and adaptation to the cabbage juice was favourably influenced by addition of 2% salt. Final selection was based on in vitro passage of simulated stomach duodenum conditions (SSDP model). The strains L. plantarum HAC01 and L sakei HAC10 were administered to a diet-induced obese (DIO) mouse model receiving a high-fat (HF) diet to assess their functionality in-vivo. Animal groups receiving the viable strains showed significantly lower body weight and total weight gain during 8 weeks compared to the high-fat control group. This study provides preliminary information on the use of in-vitro and in-vivo features for safety and functionality evaluation of Lactobacillus strains from white kimchi. These 'first level' criteria for strain selection may serve as model, thereby facilitating potentially new probiotic developments. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.</P>

Purpose: This study was attempted to find out the influencing factors of self-leadership in nursing college students. Method: This study is a descriptive research study to identify the correlation between family intimacy, interpersonal relationship tendency, communication ability, self-leadership and the factors influencing self-leadership. Data collection was conducted from June 7 to June 20, 2020, targeting 236 nursing universities located in Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do. Results: The subjects family intimacy, interpersonal tendency, communication ability, and self-leadership showed statistically significant correlations in the positive direction. As a result of multiple regression analysis, the F value of the regression model fit was statistically significant at 42.29(<.001). Factors influencing self-leadership were family intimacy, interpersonal relationship tendency, and communication ability. Conclusion: In order to help nursing students adapt to college life, it is necessary to develop self-leadership, which is an individual s inner ability, develop a curriculum that strengthens interpersonal skills, and develop curriculum and comparison programs to enhance coping methods.

Objective: South Korea still lacks systematic national poisoning data collection or a poison control center (PC). The objectives of this study are to provide estimates of poisoning incidents in South Korea and to stress the necessity of a national poisoning surveillance framework managed by a national PC. Method: The number of poisoning incidents was estimated based on the 2018 annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers’ National Poison Data System (NPDS). Our estimation of poisoning data was classified according to age group, reason for poison exposure, and case management site. Results: Total poisoning cases estimated numbered 326,636, which is tantamount to 631 cases per 100 thousand. Poisoning cases among those younger than five years old accounted for 71.7% in the United States. Fatal poisoning cases were estimated to be 210.63 (95% CI: 199.70-222.15). Non-intentional poisoning cases (250,378 cases, 95% CI: 249,992-250,764, 76.7%) were estimated to be far higher than intentional cases (62,399 cases, 95% CI: 62,207-62,593, 19.1%). Conclusion: Our results can be used to suggest the necessity of producing national poisoning data and establishing a PC despite the uncertainty of estimation.
가습기 살균제 건강영향 모니터링에서 환경노출조사의 역할

Objective: The objectives of this study are to update the information on the characteristics of humidifier disinfectant (HD) usage with HD associated health problems and to discuss the role of HD exposure assessment in the national program to monitor health problems in patients with HD associated diseases. Method: A total of 201 HD associated patients who registered to undergo clinical examination at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital was interviewed to acquire their responses regarding several HD use characteristics, including type of HD brands used, HD use duration, average daily HD use hours, and the volume of the room in which HD was used. The responses of the HD associated patients to HD use-related questions were compared between responses in the lung injury investigation and this study. Results: The responses of HD associated patients in this study were found to be different from those in the lunginjury investigation. In particular, some of the patients who had not answered in the lung-injury investigation were able to answer thanks to assistance from the investigator in this study. For their responses regarding the name of the most commonly used HD brand, the number of patients who did not answer (N=11) was reduced to eight in this study. Significant changes in the responses of study subjects to questions related to HD use were achieved through the interview in this study. Conclusion: This study found significant changes in the responses regarding HD use characteristics. HD exposure assessment should be included in the program in order to allow surveillance of HD associated health problems.
효율적인 유전자 전달을 위한 Transferrin과 PEI가 도입된 O-carboxymethyl Chitosan의 합성

본 연구에서는 키토산의 유전자 전달 효율과 암세포 표적효율을 향상시키기 위하여 OCMCh의 amine group과 carboxyl group에 각각 표적물질인 TF와 양이온고분자인 PEI를 도입하여, 유전자 전달체인 POPT를 제조하였다. 제조된 POPT는 1 H-NMR 을 통해 성공적으로 합성되었음을 확인하였고, DLS를 통해 입자크기를 측정한 결과 POPT의 비율이 증가함에 따라 입자크기가 작아지며, POPT가 나노 크기의 입자를 형성함을 확인하였다. 또한 전기영동 실험을 통해 POPT가 pEGFP-N1와 복합체를 잘 형성하며, heparin 실험결과 혈액 내에서 pEGFP-N1를 잘 방출할 수 있으며, DNase로부터 pE GFP-N1를 보호할 수 있음을 확인하였다. POPT의 유전자 전달효율은 정상세포와 암세포를 사용하여 확인한 결과 POPT 가 증가할수록 유전자 전달 효율이 향상되며, TF의 표적능력으로 인해 암세포에서만 유전자가 전달됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 같은 실험 결과들을 통해 POPT는 암세포만을 표적해 유전자를 전달할 수 있는 전달체로써 사용 가능성이 있는 우수한 물질로 사료된다. 추후에 수행할 실험에서는, 이러한 시스템의 가능성을 보다 더 정확히 확인하기 위하여 동물실험을 진행할 예정이며, 질병을 치료할 수 있는 유전자를 전달체를 통하여 전달하는 실험을 통하여 유전자 치료를 수행할 수 있는지 여부를 확인하는 연구를 진행할 것이다. The polyethyleneimine / O-carboxymethyl chitosan / polyethyleneglycol / transferrin (POPT) copolymer was evaluated as nonviral gene delivery carrier. The structural analysis of POPT copolymer was confirmed by 1-proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR). The particle size of - pEGFP-N1/POPT polyplexes was confirmed by dynamic light scattering (DLS). The results of DLS showed that the particle sizes of pEGFP-N1/POPT polyplexes has small size of 130~260 nm. The binding ability with pEGFP-N1, pEGFP-N1 protecting assay against DNase, and pEGFP-N1 release assay through heparin of POPT were evaluated by gel retardation assay. In addition, gene transfection effect of pEGFP-N1/POPT polyplexes was evaluated in fibroblast cell line (L929, without transferrin receptor) and cervical cancer cell line (HeLa-S3, with transferrin receptor) cells. The results of transfection were shown that green fluorescence was cancer cell more expression than normal cell due to receptor mediated endocytosis between transferrin of POPT and transferrin receptor on the cancer surface. Therefore, pEGFP-N1/POPT polyplexes could be a promising gene delivery system.
2008년부터 가습기 살균제 건강 피해 급증 : 우연인가, 필연인가?

Objective: The objective of this study is to report the number of humidifier disinfectant (HD) associated health problems, including HD associated lung injury (HDLI), by year. This data was analyzed by the type of HD and HD brand. Methods: A total of 530 patients registered with the national program on HD through its second round is distributed based on the year when they developed their first health problem including HDLI (N=221). The distribution of health problems at diagnosis was clinically evaluated in order to examine the association between their lung injury and the use of HD. Results: The number of HD associated victims and HDLI patients was found to rise sharply from 2008 to 2011, with a peak in 2011. This trend was found not only for HD brands containing polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG), but also chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (CMIT/MIT). The number of patients who responded to develop health problems at the specific year was 35 at 2008, 51 at 2009, 108 at 2010 and 182 at 2011, respectively. Other types of HD brands and HD chemicals did not follow the trend of abrupt increase in HD associated patients since 2008. Conclusion: This study found the number of HD associated victims and HDLI patients who used HD brands containing PHMG sharply increased starting in 2008. The significant change in the process of manufacture PHMG can be suspected with the abrupt rise in HD associated patients in specific year.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The potential of wetland plants as an onsite biosorbent and a biomonitor for combined pollution of arsenic and four heavy metals from non‐point sources was investigated in this study. <I>Ceratophyllum demersum</I>, <I>Hydrilla verticillata, Hydrocharis dubia</I>, and <I>Salvinia natans</I> were exposed to a water containing mixture of As, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn. Growth inhibition and biosorption potential of the wetland plants in artificially contaminated conditions were studied. These contaminants significantly reduced the growth of the plants. The tested wetland plants accumulated appreciable amounts of the contaminants in the following order: Pb>Cr>Cu>Zn>As. <I>H. verticillata</I> showed distinct visual change and a high biosorption factor (BSF) rank for As and heavy metals among the plants used in the study. As an unspecific collector of contaminants, it might be useful as a biomonitor and biosorbent in the As and heavy metal‐contaminated aquatic system.</P>
