Intolerance of Uncertainty Mediates the Influence of Viral Anxiety on Social Distancing Phobia Among the General Korean Population During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic

        Cho Inn-Kyu,Ahmed Oli,Lee Dongin,Cho Eulah,Chung Seockhoon,Günlü Aykut 대한신경정신의학회 2022 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.19 No.9

Objective We aimed to examined the reliability and validity of Korean version of Social Distancing Phobia scale, and whether intolerance of uncertainty mediates the association of the general population’s social distancing phobia with viral anxiety and depression. Methods Through this anonymous online survey, we collected responses from 400 individuals in the general Korean population. Participants’ demographic information and rating scales scores, including the Social Distancing Phobia scale, Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 items, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Intolerance of Uncertainty-12 items. Results Confirmatory factor analysis showed a good model fit, and the Korean version of Social Distancing Phobia scale showed good internal consistency. Social distancing phobia was significantly correlated with age (r=0.213, p<0.001), viral anxiety (r=0.390, p<0.001), depression (r=0.244, p<0.001), and intolerance of uncertainty (r=0.323, p<0.001). A linear regression analysis showed that age (β=0.235, p<0.001), viral anxiety (β=0.281, p<0.001), depression (β=0.121, p=0.009), and intolerance of uncertainty (β=0.200, p<0.001; adjusted R2=0.246, F=33.6, p<0.001) predicted social distancing phobia. Mediation analysis revealed that viral anxiety directly influenced social distancing phobia (z=6.48, p<0.001), and intolerance of uncertainty partially mediated this association (z=2.92, p=0.003).Conclusion Social distancing phobia may cause psychological stress but may also increase adherence to physical distancing measures and prevent the spread of viruses.

Assessing Stress and Anxiety in Firefighters During the Coronavirus Disease-2019 Pandemic: A Comparative Adaptation of the Stress and Anxiety in the Viral Epidemic–9 Items and Stress and Anxiety in the Viral Epidemics–6 Items Scales

        Inn-Kyu Cho,Han Sung Lee,Kayoung Song,Oli Ahmed,Dongin Lee,Jiyoung Kim,Eulah Cho,Soomin Jang,Jeong-Hyun Kim,Seockhoon Chung 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.11

Objective This study assessed the reliability and validity of the Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics–9 items (SAVE-9) and Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics–6 items (SAVE-6) scales for measuring viral anxiety among firefighters during the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic. Methods An online survey was conducted among 304 firefighters assigned in Gyeonggi-do. The SAVE-9 scale, initially developed for healthcare workers, was adapted for firefighters. We compared it with the SAVE-6 scale designed for the general population among the firefighters sample. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to explore the factor structure of both scales. Internal consistency reliability was checked using Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega. Convergent validity was assessed in accordance with the Patient Health Questionnaire–9 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder–7 scales. Results The SAVE-9 scale demonstrated a Cronbach alpha of 0.880, while the SAVE-6 scale yielded an alpha of 0.874. CFA indicated good model fits for both SAVE-9 and SAVE-6 scales among firefighters sample. The SAVE-9 and SAVE-6 comparably measures viral anxiety of firefighters. Conclusion Both of the SAVE-9 and SAVE-6 scales are reliable and valid instruments for assessing viral anxiety among firefighters during the pandemic.

Does blastomere biopsy in preimplantation genetic diagnosis affect early serum ${\beta}$-hCG levels?

        Cho, Yeon-Jean,Kim, Jin-Yeong,Song, In-Ok,Lee, Hyung-Song,Lim, Chun-Kyu,Koong, Mi-Kyoung,Kang, Inn-Soo The Korean Society for Reproductive Medicine 2011 Clinical and Experimental Reproductive Medicine Vol.38 No.1

Objective: To determine whether the serum ${\beta}$-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) profile following preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is lower than that of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles. Methods: A total of 129 PGD cycles and 1,161 age-matched ICSI cycles, which resulted in pregnancy (serum ${\beta}-hCG{\geq}5$ mIU/mL) on post-ovulation day (POD) 12 were included. We compared the mean serum ${\beta}$-hCG levels on POD 12, 14, 21, and 28, doubling time of serum hCG, and created a cut-off value for predicting a singleton pregnancy in each group. Results: The mean serum ${\beta}$-hCG concentration of the PGD group was significantly lower than that of the control group on POD 12, 14, and 21. The doubling time of serum ${\beta}$-hCG at each time interval showed no significant difference. The cut-off-value of serum ${\beta}$-hCG for predicting a single viable pregnancy was 32.5 mIU/mL on POD 12 and 113.5 mIU/mL on POD 14 for the PGD group, which was lower than that for the control group. Conclusion: Blastomere biopsy may decrease the ${\beta}$-hCG-producing activity of the trophoblasts, especially in early pregnancy. Setting a lower cut-off value of serum ${\beta}$-hCG for predicting pregnancy outcomes in PGD may be needed.

A Phenomenological Model for Linear Viscoelasticity of Monodisperse Linear Polymers

        Cho, Kwang-Soo,Kim, Woo-Sik,Lee, Dong-Ho,Park, Lee-Soon,Min, Kyung-Eun,Seo, Kwan-Ho,Kang, Inn-Kyu,Park, Soo-Young,Kwon, Youngdon The Polymer Society of Korea 2002 Macromolecular Research Vol.10 No.5

Although the reptational model of Doi and Edwards gives a successful description of viscoelasticity of flexible linear polymers, the success is restricted to the terminal region./sup 1/ There have been several attempts to modify the Doi-Edwards model to describe wider range of time or frequency./sup 2-6/ This paper suggests a simple phenomenological model which can describe wider range of molecular weight than such molecular models can. Although our model is a phenomenological one, it is practical and convenient to predict the effect of molecular weight distribution on linear viscoelastic data because of its simple mathematical form.

Insomnia Mediate the Influence of Reassurance-Seeking Behavior and Viral Anxiety on Preoccupation With COVID-19 Among the General Population

        Cho Eulah,Lee Dongin,Cho Inn-Kyu,Lee Joohee,Ahn Junseok,Bang Young Rong 대한수면학회 2022 sleep medicine research Vol.13 No.2

Background and Objective We explored in this study whether insomnia, viral anxiety, reassurance- seeking behavior, and preoccupation with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are related among the general population. As well, we explored the possibility that insomnia may mediate the association between COVID-19 viral anxiety and preoccupation. Methods During November 9–15, 2021, 400 participants voluntarily completed this survey, and participants’ age, sex, living location, and marital status were collected. Responses to questions about COVID-19 were also gathered, and their symptoms were rated using the Obsession with COVID-19 Scale (OCS), Coronavirus Reassurance-Seeking Behaviors Scale (CRBS), Fear of COVID-19 scale (FCV-19S), and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI).Results Preoccupation with COVID-19 was predicted by young age (β = -0.08, p = 0.012), CRBS (β = 0.52, p < 0.001), FCV-19S (β = 0.30, p < 0.001), and ISI (β = 0.07, p = 0.029) (adjusted R2 = 0.62, F = 163.6, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis showed that insomnia partially mediates the influence of reassurance seeking behavior and viral anxiety on preoccupation with COVID-19.Conclusions Sleep disturbances can contribute to a vicious cycle of hypochondriacal preoccupation with COVID-19. In order to reduce an individual’s viral anxiety, insomnia symptoms must be addressed.

Stabilization, Carbonization, and Characterization of PAN Precursor Webs Processed by Electrospinning Technique

        Cho, Chae-Wook,Cho, Dong-Hwan,Ko, Young-Gwang,Kwon, Oh-Hyeong,Kang, Inn-Kyu Korean Carbon Society 2007 Carbon Letters Vol.8 No.4

In the present study, electrospun PAN precursor webs and the stabilized and carbonized nanofiber webs processed under different heat-treatment conditions were characterized by means of weight loss measurement, elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimentric analysis (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The result indicated that stabilization and carbonization processes with different temperatures and heating rates significantly influenced the chemical and morphological characteristics as well as the thermal properties of the stabilized and then subsequently carbonized nanofiber webs from PAN precursor webs. It was noted that the filament diameter and the carbon content of a carbonized nanofiber web as well as its weight change may be effectively monitored by controlling both stabilization and carbonization processes.

Does Viral Anxiety Influence the Insomnia Severity Among Patients With Insomnia Disorder During COVID-19 Pandemic?

        Sleiman Jana,Cho Eulah,Lee Dongin,Cho Inn-Kyu,Chung Seockhoon,Uygur Omer Faruk 대한수면학회 2023 sleep medicine research Vol.14 No.1

Background and Objective We aimed to investigate whether viral anxiety affects insomnia severity in patients with insomnia disorder during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition, we examined whether viral anxiety mediates the influence of dysfunctional beliefs about sleep on insomnia severity. Methods The medical records of 111 patients who visit the sleep clinic from September 2021 to May 2022 were reviewed. Patients’ symptoms were rated with rating scales including Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 items (SAVE-6), Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep-16 items (DBAS-16), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 items (PHQ-9), Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and discrepancy between desired time in bed and desired total sleep time (the DBST index). Results The SAVE-6 score was not significantly correlated with ISI score among insomnia patients. Linear regression analysis showed that the ISI score was expected by PHQ-9 (β = 0.21, p = 0.038) and DBAS-16 (β = 0.42, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis showed that viral anxiety did not mediate the influence of dysfunctional beliefs about sleep on insomnia severity. Conclusions We could not observe the mediating effect of viral anxiety on the association between dysfunctional beliefs about sleep on insomnia severity. Though COVID-somnia was one of big issues in this COVID-19 pandemic, the influence of virus on the severity of insomnia among insomnia patients needs to be interpreted cautiously.

      • The influence of interfacial tensile strain on the charge transport characteristics of MoS2-based vertical heterojunction devices

        Huang, Fu,Cho, Byungjin,Chung, Hee-Suk,Son, Seung Bae,Kim, Jung Han,Bae, Tae-Sung,Yun, Hyung Joong,Sohn, Jung Inn,Oh, Kyu Hwan,Hahm, Myung Gwan,Park, Jung Hee,Hong, Woong-Ki The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Nanoscale Vol.8 No.40

<P>We demonstrate the charge transport characteristics of MoS2-based vertical heterojunction devices through the formation of interfacial strain. Atomically thin MoS2 bilayers were directly synthesized on a p-type Si substrate by using chemical vapor deposition to introduce an interfacial tensile strain in the vertical heterojunction diode structure, which was confirmed by Raman, X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. The electrical and optoelectronic properties of the heterojunction devices with the as-grown MoS2 (A-MoS2) on p-Si were compared with those of transferred MoS2 (T-MoS2)/p-Si devices. To clearly understand the charge transport characteristics induced by the interfacial tensile strain, the Fowler-Nordheim (FN) analysis of the electrical properties of the diode devices was conducted with the corresponding energy band diagrams. All of the fabricated MoS2-based vertical diodes exhibited clearly rectifying behaviors, but the photoresponse properties of the A-MoS2-based and T-MoS2-based heterojunctions exhibited distinct differences. Interestingly, we found that the tunneling barrier heights of the A-MoS2-based heterojunction devices were relatively higher than those of the T-MoS2-based devices and were almost the same before and after illumination due to the interfacial tensile strain, whereas those of the T-MoS2-based devices were lowered after illumination. Our study will help further understand the charge transport properties of 2D material-based heterojunction devices in the presence of interfacial strain, ultimately enabling the design of electronic and optoelectronic devices with novel functionalities.</P>

Discrepancy Between Desired Time in Bed and Desired Total Sleep Time, Insomnia, Depression, and Dysfunctional Beliefs About Sleep Among the General Population

        Lee Joohee,Cho Inn-Kyu,Kim Kyumin,Kim Changnam,Park C. Hyung Keun,Yi Kikyoung,Chung Seockhoon 대한신경정신의학회 2022 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.19 No.4

Objective The aim of this study was to explore the factors that can influence the severity of insomnia in the general population. We also aimed to examine whether sleep effort mediates the association between dysfunctional beliefs about sleep or the discrepancy between desired time in bed and desired total sleep time (DBST) and insomnia severity in individuals. Methods A total of 387 participants enrolled in this e-survey study. The symptoms were rated using the insomnia severity index (ISI), Patients Health Questionnaire-9 items, Dysfunctional Beliefs about Sleep-2 items, Glasgow Sleep Effort Scale, and Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 items. In addition, we defined a new sleep index named the DBST index. A linear regression analysis was performed to explore the factors predicting ISI scores, and mediation analysis was implemented to explore whether persistent preoccupation with sleep mediated the influence of dysfunctional beliefs about sleep and DBST on insomnia severity. Results A linear regression analysis investigated depression (β=0.17, p<0.001), sleep effort (β=0.50, p<0.001), dysfunctional beliefs about sleep (β=0.13, p=0.001), and DBST (β=0.09, p=0.014) (adjusted R<i>2</i>=0.50, F=65.7, p<0.001). Additionally, we observed that persistent preoccupation with sleep partially mediated the influence of dysfunctional beliefs about sleep and DBST on insomnia severity. Conclusion Depression, preoccupation with sleep, dysfunctional beliefs about sleep, and DBST influenced the insomnia severity of the general population. We also observed that a persistent preoccupation with sleep partially mediated the influence of dysfunctional beliefs about sleep and the DBST index on insomnia severity.
