The surface of fumed nano-silica(nano-SiO2) was treated with alkyl silazane to change from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. Aluminum Trihydroxide(nano-ATH) was surface treated with vinyl silazane to improve electrical properties(high voltage direct current [HVDC] breakdown strength and tracking resistance). A kneader was prepared by mixing surface-modified nano-SiO2 and surface-modified nano-ATH with liquid silicon. and the effect on electrical properties of surface-modified nano-ATH was studied for application to heavy electrical equipment. Surface modification was confirmed through thermogravimetric analysis and contact angle analysis. As the nano-ATH content increased(±), HVDC breakdown strength and tracking resistance increased significantly. As the nano-ATH content increased, the leakage current that occurred initially was delayed and the current intensity decreased. The amount of erosion also decreased.

Report on 31 unrecorded bacterial species in Korea that belong to the phylum Actinobacteria

To discover and characterize indigenous species in Korea, a total of 31 bacterial strains that belong to the phylum Actinobacteria were isolated from various niches in Korea. Each strain showed the high sequence similarity (>99.1%) with the closest bacterial species, forming a robust phylogenetic clade. These strains have not been previously recorded in Korea. According to the recently updated taxonomy of the phylum Actinobacteria based upon 16S rRNA trees, we report 25 genera of 13 families within 5 orders of the class Actinobacteria as actinobacterial species found in Korea. Cellular morphology, Gram staining, basic biochemical characteristics are described in the species description.

<P>Cytokinesis is the final step in cell division that results in the separation of a parent cell into daughter cells. Unlike somatic cells that undergo symmetric division, meiotic division is highly asymmetric, allowing the preservation of maternal resources for embryo development. Beclin-1/BECN1, the mammalian homolog of yeast Atg6, is a key molecule of autophagy. As part of a class III phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K-III) complex, BECN1 initiates autophagosome formation by coordinating membrane trafficking. However, emerging evidence suggests that BECN1 regulates chromosome segregation and cytokinesis during mitosis. Thus, we investigated the function of BECN1 during oocyte meiotic maturation. BECN1 was widely distributed during meiotic maturation forming small vesicles. Interestingly, BECN1 is also detected at the midbody ring during cytokinesis. Depletion of BECN1 impaired the cytokinetic abscission, perturbing the recruitment of ZFYVE26 at the midbody. Similar phenotypes were observed when PI3K-III activity was inhibited. However, inhibition of autophagy by depleting Atg14L did not disturb meiotic maturation. Therefore, our results not only demonstrate that BECN1 as a PI3K-III component is essential for cytokinesis, but also suggest that BECN1 is not associated with autophagy pathway in mouse oocytes.</P>

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of low-intensity aerobic exercise on body weight, Bacteriodetes and TLR5, and the relationships between them. Obesity was induced in C57BL/6 male mice (n=40) by high-fat diet, which were divided into two experimental groups, control group (CG), low-intensity aerobic exercise group (EG). And after a 12-week treatment of low-intensity aerobic exercise the effects in two test groups were compared by one-way ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation was employed to verify the relationships among each factors, which led to the conclusions as follows. A 12-week treatment of concurrent low-intensity aerobic exercise was effective for weight-loss, exhibited a positive effect on intestinal microorganisms, and the positive effect was greater in the combined treatment in particular than in the low-intensity aerobic exercise group. Concurrent low-intensity aerobic exercise showed more positive effects on TLR5 than control group, and relationships of body weight, Bacteriodetes and TLR5 weren’t confirmed. Therefore, it is thought that this study can be the preliminary data to provide information to help develop various exercise programs for effective weight control based on new forms of factors causing obesity.

In an investigation of indigenous prokaryotic species in Korea, a total of 57 bacterial strains assigned to the classes Betaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria were isolated from diverse environments. Samples were collected from fresh water, natural caves, soil, paddy fields, lakes, sea water, jeotgal (fermented seafood), salt flats, soil from abandoned mines, plant roots, digestive organs of both Japanese crested ibis (Nipponia nippon) and Burmese python (Python molurus bivittatus) and tidal flats. From the high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (>98.7%) and formation of robust phylogenetic clades with closely related species, it was determined that each strain belonged to an independent and predefined bacterial species within either the Betaproteobacteria or Gammaproteobacteria. There is no official report or publication that describes these 57 proteobacterial species in Korea. Overall, in the class Betaproteobacteria there were 16 species in 12 genera of 4 families in the order Burkholderiales and two species in two genera of one family in the order Neisseriales. Within the class Gammaproteobacteia, there were five species in four genera of four families in the order Alteromonadales, 12 species in 11 genera of one family in the order Enterobacteriales, four species in four genera of three families in the order Oceanospirillales, 11 species in four genera of two families in the order Pseudomonadales, two species in the order Vibrionales and five species in five genera of one family in the order Xanthomonadales. <P>Dry semicontinuous anaerobic digestion (AD) of South Korean food waste (FW) under four solid loading rates (SLRs) (2.30-9.21 kg total solids (TS)/m(3) day) and at a fixed TS content was compared between two digesters, one each under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions. Biogas production and organic matter reduction in both digesters followed similar trends, increasing with rising SLR. Inhibitor (intermediate products of the anaerobic fermentation process) effects on the digesters' performance were not observed under the studied conditions. In all cases tested, the digesters' best performance was achieved at the SLR of 9.21 kg TS/m(3) day, with 74.02% and 80.98% reduction of volatile solids (VS), 0.87 and 0.90 m(3) biogas/kg VSremoved, and 0.65 (65% CH4) and 0.73 (60.02% CH4) m(3) biogas/kg VSfed, under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions, respectively. Thermophilic dry AD is recommended for FW treatment in South Korea because it is more efficient and has higher energy recovery potential when compared to mesophilic dry AD. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. A report of 21 unreported bacterial species in Korea, belonging to the Betaproteobacteria

As a subset investigation to discover indigenous prokaryotic species in Korea, a total of 21 bacterial strains assigned to the class Betaproteobacteria were isolated from a wide range of environmental samples which collected from fresh water, roots of plants, mineral water and soil from ginseng farm. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that 21 isolated strains were most closely related to the class Betaproteobacteria, with high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (>99.1%) and constructed a robust phylogenetic clade with the closest species in the class Betaproteobacteria. These isolated species have no previous report or publication in Korea; therefore 17 species in 14 genera of 6 families in the order Burkholderiales, 1 species in the order Methylophilales, 2 species in 2 genera of 1 family in the order Neisseriales are reported for betaproteobacterial species found in Korea.
