Background: Cellulite is a ``cottage cheese-like`` cutaneous change caused by subcutaneous fat bulging into the dermis that usually leads to cosmetic problems. Slimming cream containing 3.5% water-soluble caffeine and xanthenes ex-hibits a lipolytic effect with penetration into the dermis. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of slimming cream for the treatment of cellulite. Methods: Fifteen sub-jects with cellulite applied slimming cream to the thighs and inner side of the upper arms twice daily for 6 weeks. Efficacy was assessed using a standard visual scale, changes in the cir-cumferences of the thighs and upper arms, and patient sat-isfaction by a questionnaire at baseline, week 3, and week 6. Safety was assessed by inquiring about adverse events through questionnaires. Results: The standard visual scale score improved significantly by 0.49 points (19.8%) at week 6. Thigh and upper-arm circumferences decreased by 0.7 cm (1.7%) and 0.8 cm (2.3%), respectively, at week 6. Slight itching and transient flushing were commonly reported, but no serious adverse event occurred. Conclusion: The slim-ming cream tested appears to be effective for the treatment of cellulitis without serious adverse effects. However, addi-tional large clinical trials are required to confirm the efficacy and safety of slimming cream for the treatment of cellulitis. (Ann Dermatol 27(3) 243∼249, 2015)

ABSTRACT: The authors innovated the levator aponeurosis and Muller muscle plication reinforced with levator sheath advancement (AMPSA) for blepharoptosis correction. The orbital septum was opened 1 mm above its fusion with the levator aponeurosis. The preaponeurotic fat was retracted and the thickened part of the levator sheath was identified. Two plication sutures were made: medial suture at the medial border of the pupil and lateral between the lateral border of the pupil and the lateral limbus. A needle with 6-0 nylon thread first bit the tarsal plate approximately 1 mm below its upper border, then bit the levator aponeurosis and the Muller muscle together at 3 to 6 mm above the upper border of the tarsal plate. The needle bit 1 to 3 mm of the thickened part of the levator sheath and the suture was tied. A total of 116 eyes were operated on using levator aponeurosis and Muller muscle plication (AMP), and 79 eyes using AMPSA. The mean follow-up period was 11.4 months. In the AMP group, the postoperative marginal reflex distance-1 (MRD-1) (3.8 ± 0.2 mm) was significantly greater than the preoperative MRD-1 (2.7 ± 0.3 mm) (P < 0.001). In the AMPSA group, the postoperative MRD-1 (3.5 ± 0.3 mm) was also significantly greater than the preoperative MRD-1 (1.7 ± 0.4 mm) (P < 0.001). The improvement in MRD-1 was greater in the AMPSA group (1.7 ± 0.4 mm) than in the AMP group (1.1 ± 0.3 mm) (P < 0.001). The difference in the MRD-1 outcome between AMPSA and AMP (0.6 mm) was obtained by advancing the thickened part of the levator sheath. AMPSA may be an effective procedure for correcting blepharoptosis.

<P>Conclusions: VSIG4 is overexpressed in ovarian cancers compared with that in benign tumors. This finding supports VSIG4 being used as a potential therapeutic target for ovarian cancer. Furthermore, soluble VSIG4 levels are associated with the progression and recurrence of ovarian cancer, indicating that soluble VSIG4 may be used as a potential biomarker for predicting tumor prognosis.</P>

Background: Cellulite is a cutaneous change showing ‘orange-peel’ appearance caused by subcutaneous fat that bulged into dermis. Cellulite occurs mostly in gluteal-femoral regions of post-adolescent women and leads to cosmetic problems. Objectives: Slimming cream containing 3.5% of water soluble caffeine and xanthenes can penetrates below the dermis, and has lipolytic effects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate efficacy and safety of slimming cream on the cellulite of healthy women. Methods: Simple comparison (before/after), single-center study carried out in fifteen healthy female volunteers at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital between December 2012 and February 2013. Subjects applied slimming cream on the thigh and inner side of upper arms twice daily for 6 weeks, and were evaluated at V1(Baseline), V2(week 3), and V3(week 6). Severity of cellulite was graded with visual scale and circumference of the thigh and upper arm was measured. Results: Cellulite grade and circumferences of the thigh and upper arm presented statistically significant improvement through V1-V3. The corneometer and cutometer did not changed significantly. Subjective evaluation of the subjects was positive. Slight itching and transient flushing were the most common adverse effects, and there was no serious adverse event. Conclusion: Slimming cream containing 3.5% of water soluble caffeine and xanthenes is effective and safe for the treatment of cellulite.
