      • Evolution of Humanoid Robot and Contribution of Various Countries in Advancing the Research and Development of the Platform

        A human like autonomous robot which is capable to adapt itself with the changing of its environment and continue to reach its goal is considered as Humanoid Robot. These characteristics differs the Android from the other kind of robots. In recent years there has been much progress in the development of Humanoid and still there are a lot of scopes in this field. A number of research groups are interested in this area and trying to design and develop a various platforms of Humanoid based on mechanical and biological concept. Many researchers focus on the designing of lower torso to make the Robot navigating as like as a normal human being do. Designing the lower torso which includes west, hip, knee, ankle and toe, is the more complex and more challenging task. Upper torso design is another complex but interesting task that includes the design of arms and neck. Analysis of walking gait, optimal control of multiple motors or other actuators, controlling the Degree of Freedom (DOF), adaptability control and intelligence are also the challenging tasks to make a Humanoid to behave like a human. Basically research on this field combines a variety of disciplines which make it more thought-provoking area in Mechatronics Engineering. In this paper a various platforms for Humanoid Robot development are identified and described based on the evolutionary research on robotics. The paper also depicts a virtual map of humanoid platform development from the ancient time to present time. It is very important and effective to analyze the development phases of androids because of its Business, Educational and Research value. Basic comparisons between the different designs of Humanoid Structures are also analyzed in this paper.

        EFFECTS OF AIR SUPPLY DIFFUSERS AND AIR RETURN GRILLES LAYOUT ON CONTAMINANTS CONCENTRATION IN BUS PASSENGER COMPARTMENT

        Ventilation system in a bus is employed to provide good indoor air quality and thermal comfort for passengers. Poor ventilation system will increase the concentration level of air contaminants which could affect the passenger’s health. The presence mixing ventilation system used in many buses is not efficient in removing the air contaminants from the passenger compartments. This article presents a study on the effects of using different ventilation setups on the concentration level of gases and particulate matters inside a passenger compartment of a university’s shuttle bus. The goal is to find a suitable layout of the air supply diffusers and air return grilles that would lower the concentration level of contaminants inside the passenger compartment. Field measurements were carried out to quantify the concentration of gases (carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and formaldehyde) and particulate matters (PM1, PM2.5 and PM10). The measurements were done at the front section of the bus compartment, close to the front door. The data were acquired in the morning, afternoon and evening hours during a clear and sunny day. The bus travelled along an in-campus road with no passengers. A simplified three-dimensional model of the bus compartment was developed using computational fluid dynamics software. Flow analyses were carried out to predict distribution of gases and particulate matters concentration. The concentrations of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and particulate matters obtained from the field measurements were used as boundary conditions and for validating the computational model. A parametric study was carried out to identify a suitable layout of air supply diffusers and air return grilles that would lower the concentration level of the air contaminants. Two types of ventilation systems were considered namely a displacement ventilation and an underfloor air distribution. Results show that the underfloor air distribution system is more effective in reducing the concentration level of gases and particulate matters inside the passenger compartment compared to the displacement ventilation system.

        Dynamic behavior of a functionally graded plate resting on Winkler elastic foundation and in contact with fluid

        A semi-analytical method is developed to consider free vibrations of a functionally graded elastic plate resting on Winkler elastic foundation and in contact with a quiescent fluid. Material properties are assumed to be graded distribution along the thickness direction according to a power-law in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The fluid is considered to be incompressible and inviscid. In the analysis, the effect of an in-plane force in the plate due to the weight of the fluid is taken into account. By satisfying the compatibility conditions along the interface of fluid and plate, the fluid-structure interaction is taken into account and natural frequencies and mode shapes of the coupled system are acquired by employing energy methods. The results obtained from the present approach are verified by those from a finite element analysis. Besides, the effects of volume fractions of functionally graded materials, Winkler foundation stiffness and in-plane forces on the dynamic of plate are elucidated.

      • Moving Object Detection and Classification Using Neuro-Fuzzy Approach

        Public surveillance monitoring is rapidly finding its way into Intelligent Surveillance System. Street crime is increasing in recent years, which has demanded more reliable and intelligent public surveillance system. In this paper, the ability and the accuracy of an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) was investigated for the classification of moving objects for street scene applications. The goal of this paper is to classify the moving objects prior to its communal attributes that emphasize on three major processes which are object detection, discriminative feature extraction, and classification of the target. The intended surveillance application would focus on street scene, therefore the target classes of interest are pedestrian, motorcyclist, and car. The adaptive network based on Neuro-fuzzy was independently developed for three output parameters, each of which constitute of three inputs and 27 Sugeno-rules. Extensive experimentation on significant features has been performed and the evaluation performance analysis has been quantitatively conducted on three street scene dataset, which differ in terms of background complexity. Experimental results over a public dataset and our own dataset demonstrate that the proposed technique achieves the performance of 93.1% correct classification for street scene with moving objects, with compared to the solely approaches of neural network or fuzzy.

      • Models for Internet Traffic Sharing in Computer Network

        Internet Service Providers (ISPs) constantly endeavor to resolve network congestion, in order to provide fast and cheap services to the customers. This study suggests two models based on Markov chain, using three and four access attempts to complete the call. It involves a comparative study of four models to check the relationship between Internet Access sharing traffic, and the possibility of network jamming. The first model is a Markov chain, based on call-by-call attempt, whereas the second is based on two attempts. Models III&IV suggested by the authors are based on the assumption of three and four attempts. The assessment reveals that sometimes by increasing the number of attempts for the same operator, the chances for the customers to complete the call, is also increased due to blocking probabilities. Three and four attempts express the actual relationship between traffic sharing and blocking probability based on Markov using MATLAB tools with initial probability values. The study reflects shouting results compared to I&II models using one and two attempts. The success ratio of the first model is 84.5%, and that of the second is 90.6% to complete the call, whereas models using three and four attempts have 94.95% and 95.12% respectively to complete the call.

      • Roles of p53 and Caspases in Induction of Apoptosis in MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells Treated with a Methanolic Extract of Nigella Sativa Seeds

        Background: Nigella Sativa (NS) is an herb from the Ranunculaceae family that exhibits numerous medicinal properties and has been used as important constituent of many complementary and alternative medicines (CAMs). The ability of NS to kill cancer cells such as PC3, HeLa and hepatoma cells is well established. However, our understanding of the mode of death caused by NS remains nebulous. The objective of this study was to gain further insight into the mode and mechanism of death caused by NS in breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Materials and Methods: Human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) were treated with a methanolic extract of NS, and a dose- and time-dependent study was performed. The $IC_{50}$ was calculated using a Cell Titer $Blue^{(R)}$ viability assay assay, and evidence for DNA fragmentation was obtained by fluorescence microscopy TUNEL assay. Gene expression was also profiled for a number of apoptosis-related genes (Caspase-3, -8, -9 and p53 genes) through qPCR. Results: The $IC_{50}$ of MCF-7 cells was $62.8{\mu}L/mL$. When MCF-7 cells were exposed to $50{\mu}L/mL$ and $100{\mu}L/mL$ NS for 24h, 48h and 72h, microscopic examination (TUNEL assay) revealed a dose- and time-dependent increase in apoptosis. Similarly, the expression of the Caspase-3, -8, -9 and p53 genes increased significantly according to the dose and time. Conclusions: NS induced apoptosis in MCF-7 cells through both the p53 and caspase pathways. NS could potentially represent an alternative source of medicine for breast cancer therapy.

        Design and SAR Analysis of Wearable Antenna on Various Parts of Human Body, Using Conventional and Artificial Ground Planes

        This paper presents design and specific absorption rate analysis of a 2.4 GHz wearable patch antenna on a conventional and electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) ground planes, under normal and bent conditions. Wearable materials are used in the design of the antenna and EBG surfaces. A woven fabric (Zelt) is used as a conductive material and a 3 mm thicker Wash Cotton is used as a substrate. The dielectric constant and tangent loss of the substrate are 1.51 and 0.02 respectively. The volume of the proposed antenna is $113{\times}96.4{\times}3mm^3$. The metamaterial surface is used as a high impedance surface which shields the body from the hazards of electromagnetic radiations to reduce the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). For on-body analysis a three layer model (containing skin, fats and muscles) of human arm is used. Antenna employing the EBG ground plane gives safe value of SAR (i.e. 1.77W/kg<2W/kg), when worn on human arm. This value is obtained using the safe limit of 2 W/kg, averaged over 10g of tissue, specified by the International Commission of Non Ionization Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The SAR is reduced by 83.82 % as compare to the conventional antenna (8.16 W/kg>2W/kg). The efficiency of the EBG based antenna is improved from 52 to 74 %, relative to the conventional counterpart. The proposed antenna can be used in wearable electronics and smart clothing.
