Wear properties of TiAIN deposited on Al alloy by RF magnetron sputtering
Vol.2005 No.11
Aluminum alloy is a very useful material in terms of light weight and high relative strength compared to any other metallic materials. However, low hardness of this material makes limitations in its application. We have been successfully developed TiAIN thin film of hard coating on Alalloy as a promising alternative to hard and light weight material for the application of high speed rotating mechanical parts. In this application, the wear resistance of hard coating to base material is one of the most important parameter. TiAIN coatings were deposited by R.F magnetron sputtering method at various nitrogen partial pressures of the coating process using Ti based alloy cathode of which composition is 9Owt%Ti, 6wt.%Al and 4wt.%V. This material was chosen from a commercially available engineering material and the affinity of Al element in target and base material. The coating experiments were carried out at various nitrogen flow rate from 1.25 to 1. 75 sccm with constant Ar flow rate of 35 seem. In this report, the influence of nitrogen flow rate on the wear properties of TiAIN coating was investigated. By using this experiment, we found that the wear resistance and hardness of TiAlN which was recognized through the micro-vickers test and wear test is related to nitrogen to argon ratio.

BIM can be utilized variously in construction management(CM) in the respect that it helps to manage comprehensively the construction information and make reliable decisions, but the adoption of BIM is insufficient in the CM area. The purpose of this study is to develop work process models and their guides in order to utilize BIM effectively in CM work at construction stage. This study defined BIM functions as 'BIM converting design', 'Model review', 'Data extraction', 'Automatic estimate', '4D simulation', 'Drawing creation', 'Engineering sector linkage analysis' through literature search, and generated CM works applicable to BIM by analyzing the CM work and process. This study developed BIM-based CM work process models by reconstructing the existing work process in connection with BIM function through an analysis on the relationship between BIM function and CM work, and reconstructing the role of each project participants. In order to improve the usefulness of the developed models, guides that described the BIM works of project participants were prepared through interviews and case studies. To validate the utilization of the models, a comparative analysis on the BIM process of precedent studies was also made and a survey was conducted on experts. This study can contribute to increasing the utilization of BIM in the CM area and can be helpful for CM companies to develop an in-house BIM guide. In the future, it will be necessary to make an assessment on the models from a business perspective through case applications and constantly update BIM-based CM work process model in consideration of the expansion of CM work due to the application of BIM.
Vol.21 No.3
For domestic urban railways, which have a 19.7% aging rate, a performance evaluation is necessary to establish capital improvement investment plans. The performance evaluation, which was recently enacted in the relevant law, points out the excessive time and effort for acquiring data and evaluation. This study developed a performance evaluation simulation prototype using a virtual reality (VR) method to use as training contents for railway performance evaluations. The practical use of the VR technique to reduce the working time under poor environment conditions was confirmed through a literature review. A survey and consultation were conducted for urban railway experts to determine the weight of the performance evaluation items and the facility breakdown structure. This information was utilized to develop performance evaluation sheets for simulation. Based on the evaluation sheet, a training content prototype that evaluates the performance of platform safety doors was developed using VR techniques with HTC VIVE equipment. VR simulation tests were conducted for six players, and the prototype was sufficiently advantageous for a visual confirmation of the facility information. The result is expected to be useful for engineers to understand the performance evaluation process efficiently before an actual performance evaluation of urban railway facilities.
