To manage, sort, and grade fishery resources, it is necessary to measure their morphometric characteristics. This labor-intensive task involves performing repetitive operations on land and on a research vessel. To reduce the amount of labor required, a vision-based automatic measurement system (VAMS) for the measurement of morphometric characteristics of flatfish, such as total length (TL), body width (BW), and body height (BH), has been developed as part of a database management system for fishery resources management. This system can also measure the mass (M) of flatfish. In the present study, we describe a morphological image processing algorithm for the measurement of certain characteristics of flatfish. This algorithm, which involves preprocessing, edge pattern matching, and edge point detection, is effective in cases where the flatfish being measured has a deformed tail and is randomly oriented. The satisfactory performance of the proposed algorithm is also demonstrated by means of experiments involving the measurement of the BW, TL and BH of a flatfish when it is straightened (BW:117mm, TL:329mm, BH: 24.5mm), when its tail is deformed, and when it is randomly oriented.

The fatigue crack propagation behavior was tested with STR3, martensite stainless steel, and STR35, austenite stainless steel, to look over the fatigue properties on the friction welding zone according to the small artificial defect positions. From the experiment, the fatigue limits of the STR3 and STR35 base metal were 429.0㎫ and 409.4㎫ respectably. The fatigue lifes of the STR35 specimens showed about 190% for base metal specimen, about 82% for 1.0㎜ HAZ specimen higher than that of the STR3. To the contrary, the fatigue life of the STR35 specimens showed about 35% for 0.5㎜ HAZ specimen lower than that of the STR3. And the fatigue life of weld interface specimen was much lower than that of the other specimens.
Xenon flashlamp와 광촉매를 이용한 타원형 반응기의 살균 특성에 관한 연구

In this paper, we invented a new and unique technique for the sterilization of Escherichia coli(E. coli) in polluted water. We applied a rich ultra-violet(UV) light from pulsed xenon flashlamp and photocatalyst(TiO₂) to sterilize E. coli in polluted water. This method based on the use of UV light and photocatalyst is eco-friendly and does not cause secondary pollution. The proposed elliptical reactor is able to concentrate on quartz sleeve coated TiO₂ or general quartz sleeve. The primary objective of our research was to determine the important parameters such as pulse repetition rate and input voltage and to know on the sterilizing efficiency of quartz sleeve coated TiO₂ and general quartz sleeve. We obtained to achieve 99.999% sterilization in as little as 6 pulses at 800 V in case of quartz sleeve coated TiO₂, and 10 pulses at 800 V in case of general quartz sleeve for 5 minutes. Although transmitted light of quartz sleeve coated TiO₂ is deceased, the sterilizing efficiency is increased by 40% than general quartz sleeve. The reason of high sterilizing efficiency is that generated hydroxyl radical(OH) by photocatalyst and is able to concentrate light at a focus by using elliptical reactor.

Nationally, flatfish vaccination has been performed manually, and is a laborious and time-consuming procedure with low accuracy. The handling requirement also makes it prone to contamination. With a view to eliminating these drawbacks, we designed an automatic vaccine system in which the injection is delivered by a Cartesian coordinate robot guided by a vision system. The automatic vaccine injection system is driven by an injection site location algorithm that uses a template-matching technique. The proposed algorithm was designed to derive the time and possible angles of injection by comparing a search area with a template. The algorithm is able to vaccinate various sizes of flatfish, even when they are loaded at different angles. We validated the performance of the proposed algorithm by analyzing the injection error under randomly generated loading angles. The proposed algorithm allowed an injection rate of 2000 per hour on average. Vaccination of flatfish with a body length of up to 500mm was possible, even when the orientation of the fish was random. The injection errors in various sizes of flatfish were very small, ranging from 0 to 0.6mm.
