The supporting particles with curdlan, activated carbon and Hwangtoh(Yellow Ochre) were developed to immobilize microbial cells. For the twelve different particles, the iron oxidation rates were measured to determined the appropriate supporting particles. With flask culture, pH was slightly decreased from initial pH 1.95 to pH 1.6 after iron oxidation. Iron oxidation rate was increased almost 100 % more with supporting particles with 20g/L of curdlan, 200 g/L of Hwangtoh(Yellow Ochre), and 2 g/L of activated carbon than without supporting particles. With protein assay, we found that cells were immobilized on the immobilized particles.
Health Empowerment of Older Adults with High-risk of Cardio-cerebrovascular Diseases

Purpose: This study was to identify factors explaining health empowerment of older adults with high-risk of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. Methods: Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 148 older adults residing in two areas who have one or more of the following diseases; hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and atherosclerosis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Health empowerment had a positive correlation with health literacy and social support. Perceived health status and social activity participation showed significant contribution in explaining health empowerment. Conclusion: This study showed that enhancing perceived health status and social activity participation are vital in an effort to improve health empowerment of the population. Main findings of this study can contribute to developing health empowerment interventions to improve health behavior practices of the older adults.

황화수소 제거에 있어서 물리·화학적인 방법에 비교하여 화학·생물학적 공정이 않은 관심을 보이고 있다. 그러나 생물학적 철산화 반응이 화학반응속도에 비해 느려, 전체공정의 효율이 크게 제한 받는 문제점 있다. 이러한 문제점의 해결 방안으로 많은 연구자들이 고정화된 Thiobacillus ferrooxidans에 의한 Fe(ll)산화 속도를 증진시키기 위한 노력을 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 고농도의 황화수소를 제거하기 위하여 80°C 이상으로 가열하면 견고하고 탄력이 있는 겔을 형성하는 생분해성 고분자 물질인 커들란과 악취를 제거하고 불순물 흡착의 성능이 매우 좋은 활성탄을 이용하여 새로운 담체를 만들어 철산화 반응기에서 세포를 연속적으로 고정화시켜 고농도로 세포가 담체에 부착되는 것이 관찰되었으며, 황화수소 제거 반응기에서 황화수소를 2000ppm까지 주입한 후 제거 효율이 99%이상의 효율을 보였다.
Prevalence and influencing factors of dysphagia in elderly patients

The purpose of this study was to identify the risk of dysphagia among patients that visited prosthodontics department, and evaluatethe difference in risks arising from oral conditions and disease in order to preliminarily intervene the various influencing factors ofdysphagia. A questionnaire was given to patients that were aged 65 years or older who visited the prosthodontics department betweenSeptember to December 2017. The data was collected and analyzed using the t-test, x2-test and logistic regression analysis. The meanage of the patients was 75 years. Out of 300 patients, 206 patients (68.7%) had a risk of dysphagia. There were statistically significantdifferences between the –non-risk and risk groups, which included the number of natural teeth, total number of teeth includingprosthesis, denture use, denture discomfort, number of tooth brushing, oral dryness, digestive system diseases, and musculoskeletaldiseases. Among these, oral dryness was a risk factor while the total number of teeth, including natural teeth and prostheses, servedas a protective factor. More than half of the elderly patients were at risk of dysphagia. Oral dryness is influenced by many factors andit should continuously be managed. Patients should fully recover their masticatory function by preserving the remaining teeth andcompensating for the missing teeth. A dental practitioner should be fully aware of the risk of dysphagia in elderly patients and be ableto intervene and offer proper patient health care in advance through treatment guidelines and education.
