        Immediate Effects of Vibrating Foam Roller on Ankle Range of Motion and Gait Speed in Patients with Stroke

        Background: Among the various rehabilitation methods for stroke patients, one method involves the use of vibration. Recently, vibration foam rollers, combining vibration with foam rolling, have been developed and are widely used. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of vibration foam rolling on ankle range of motion (ROM), and gait speed in patients with stroke. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: Thirty stroke patients volunteered to participate and were randomly assigned to the vibrating foam roller group (n=15) and the non-vibrating foam roller group (n=15). Active dorsiflexion ROM, and 10-meter walk (10MW) were used to evaluate ankle ROM, and gait speed before and after each exercise. The two groups performed a 30-minute foam roller exercise program. The non-vibrating foam roller group performed the same exercise program as the vibrating foam roller group, but without vibration. Results: The within-group change in active dorsiflexion ROM after the exercise was significant for both the vibrating foam roller group and the non-vibrating foam roller group (P<.05). The within-group change in 10MW after the exercise was significant for the vibrating foam roller group (P<.05), while it was not significant for the non-vibrating foam roller group (P>.05). Additionally, there was no significant difference in active dorsiflexion ROM and 10MW between the vibrating foam roller group and the non-vibrating foam roller group (P>.05). Conclusion: This study confirmed that a vibrating foam roller exercise program immediately improves ankle ROM and gait speed in stroke patients.

        Effects of Intervention Using Vibration Stimulation on Balance and Gait in Total Hip Replacement Elderly Patients

        Background: Total hip replacement (THR) is performed in patients with femur fractures and osteoarthritis. THR patients have balance problems even after surgery. There is a lack of research on vibration stimulation interventions for balance in THR patients. Objectives: To investigated the effect of vibration stimulation intervention on the balance and gait of THR patients. Design: Randomized controlled trials. Methods: 44 subjects were randomly assigned to a vibration stimulation group (VSG) and a non-vibration stimulation group (N-VSG). Seven study subjects dropped out, and 37 completed the study. Timed up and go (TUG) and Berg balance scale (BBS) were used for balance assessment, and 10-meter walk (10MW) was used for gait assessment. The intervention program was conducted three times a week for 4 weeks. Results: Significant differences within the groups in balance (BBS, TUG) and gait (10MW) between the VSG and the N-VSG. There was no difference between the two groups in any variable. Conclusion: The VSG improved the balance and gait of THR patients without any difference from the N-VSG. However, VSG showed a higher effect size than N-VSG.

        고등학교 야구선수들의 신체정렬과 족저압 분포 간의 상관관계 분석

        본 연구는 고등학교 야구선수를 대상으로 신체정렬과 족저압 분포 분석하여 올바른 자세지도와 스포츠 손상 및 부상 예방 프로그램에 참고 자료를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 대상자 32명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 신체정렬은 척추에서 몸통의 좌우기울기, 등뼈의 뒤굽음각, 허리뼈의 앞굽음각, 골반에서는 골반의 기울기, 골반의 뒤틀림을 측정하였고 족저압은 각 발의 좌우 체중분포, 각 발의 최대압력을 측정하였다. 측정항목에 대한 평균과 표준편차를 산출하여 도표화하였고, 신체정렬과 족저압 분포의 상관관계를 알아보기 위해 pearson’s cerrelation analysis를 사용하여 분석하였다. 모든 통계학적 유의 수준은 0.05로 설정하였다. 신체정렬과 족저압 분포 간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 척추에서 허리뼈의 앞굽음각과 좌우 최대압력에서 양의 상관관계가 나타났다. 몸통의 좌우기울기, 등뼈의 뒤굽음각, 골반의 기울기, 골반의 뒤틀림과 각 발의 좌우 체중분포, 각 발의 최대압력에서는 상관관계가 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구를 통해 허리뼈의 앞굽음각이 증가될수록 발의 한쪽에 힘이 더 실리게 되어 최대압력이 증가하는 양의 상관관계를 나타내는 것을 알 수 있었다. 향후 운동선수들의 신체정렬과 족저압 분포에 대한 운동프로그램의 참고 자료가 될 것으로 사료된다. This study was undertaken to provide correct posture guidance and reference material for sports injury and injury prevention programs, by analyzing body alignment and plantar pressure distribution in high school baseball players. Totally, 32 subjects were enrolled for the study. Body alignment was measured from the trunk imbalance, kyphotic angle, lordotic angle, pelvic tilt, and pelvic torsion. Foot pressure was measured from the left maximum pressure, right maximum pressure, left weight, and right weight. The mean and standard deviation of the measured factors were calculated and tabulated, and the correlation between body alignment and foot pressure distribution was analyzed using Pearson's correlation analysis. All statistical significance levels were set at 0.05. Body alignment and foot pressure distribution show a positive correlation between the lordotic angle of lumbar spine and the left maximum pressure. There was no correlation between trunk imbalance, kyphotic angle, lordotic angle, pelvic tilt, pelvic torsion, and the left·right weight distribution and the left·right maximum pressure of each foot. Results of this study determined that the increase of the lordotic angle of lumbar spine results in more force on one side of the foot, thereby increasing the maximum pressure. We believe our data could be a reference for exercise programs on physical alignment and plantar pressure distribution of athletes.

        요통환자의 체간근 활성도 및 통증과 Bodyblade 훈련의 융합관계에 관한 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 만성 요통 환자의 근육 활성도 및 몸통 통증 에 대한 bodyblade 훈련의 영향을 알아보 았다. 연구를 위해 30 명의 피험자 샘플을 모집하여 실시하였다. Bodyblade 훈련 그룹 (n = 10)은 6주 동안 주 3 회 bodyblade 훈련을 실시하였고, 요추 안정화 훈련 그룹 (n = 10)은 6 주 동안 주 3 회 요추 안정화 훈련을 실시하였다. 대조군 그룹 (n = 10)은 다른 어떤 훈련도 실시하지 않았다. 몸통 근육 활성도의 평가를 위해 표면 근전도를 사용하였고 통증 평가를 위해 VAS를 측정 하였다. 결과는 다음과 같았다 : 몸통 근육의 활성도와 통증변 화에 있어 측정 시점과 상호작용에서 통계학적으로 유의한 차이를 나타내었다. 그 결과, bodyblade 훈련은 만성요 통환자의 효과적인 중재 방법이 될 수 있을 거라 기대된다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of bodyblade training on pain and trunk muscle activity in patients with chronic low back pain. A sample of 30 subjects were recruited for this study. Bodyblade training group(n=10) was performed bodyblade training three times a week for six weeks, lumbar stabilization training group(n=10) was performed lumbar stabilization training three times a week for six weeks, and control group(n=10) wasn’t performed any other training. For evaluation of trunk muscle activity, surface EMG was used and for evaluation of pain, VAS was measured. The results were as follows: trunk muscle activity, there was significant difference according to the measurement, pain, there was significant difference according to the measurement. From the results, bodyblade training is expected to be an effective intervention for patients with chronic back pain.

        만성발목불안정성 환자의 진동자극이 가동범위 및 고유수용성감각에 미치는 즉각적인 효과: 무작위 교차 연구

        PURPOSE: This study examined the effect of vibration stimulation of a vibration foam roller on the change in the range of motion of the ankle joint and proprioception in patients with chronic ankle instability. An additional aim was to provide basic data for rehabilitation programs for chronic ankle instability patients. METHODS: This study was a randomized crossover design of 22 patients with chronic ankle instability. All subjects were divided into a vibrating group, a non-vibrating group, and a control group. The vibration and non-vibration groups performed the interventions, but the control group did not. For the measurement, the range of motion and proprioception of the ankle joint was measured using an electronic protractor (Electrogoniometer, BPM Pathway, UK). RESULTS: The vibration group showed significant differences in the dorsiflexion angle, dorsiflexion proprioception, and plantar flexion proprioception (p < .05). The non- vibration group showed significant differences in the dorsiflexion angle and dorsiflexion proprioceptive sensation (p < .05). The vibration group and the control group showed significant differences in dorsiflexion proprioception and plantar flexion proprioception (p < .05). CONCLUSION: The range of motion and proprioception of the ankle joint were improved in the group that received vibration stimulation after the intervention than before the intervention. Future research will be needed on patients with various diseases.

        Effect of Jumping Exercise on Supporting Surface on Ankle Muscle Thickness, Proprioception and Balance in Adults with Functional Ankle Instability

        Background: Functional ankle instability (FAI) indicating a decrease in muscle strength, proprioception, neuromuscular control, balance and postural control function. Objective: To investigate the effect of jumping exercise on the supporting surface on the ankle muscle thickness, proprioceptive sensation, and balance in adults with FAI. Design: Randomized Controlled Trial. Methods: Twenty young people with FAI were randomly assigned to the unstable supporting surface jump group (N=10) and the stable supporting surface jump group (N=10). The intervention was conducted three times a week for eight weeks, and for 30 minutes per session. Trampoline was used as an unstable support surface and the stable support surface was carried out on a regular floor. The thickness of the tibialis anterior muscle and medial gastrocnemius muscle was measured by ultrasonography, and the proprioception of dorsiflexion and plantarflexion was measured using an electrogoniometer. The dynamic balance was also measured with a balance meter. Results: The the muscle thickness of the medial gastrocnemius muscle was significantly higher in the stable supporting surface jump group than in the unstable supporting surface jump group (p<.05). Furthermore, the plantar flexion proprioception and dynamic balance were significantly improved in the unstable supporting surface jump group than in the stable supporting surface jump group in the intergroup comparison (p<.05). Conclusions: The conclusion has been reached in this study that the jumping exercise on the unstable supporting surface could be a more effective in improving FAI than the regular surface.

        8주간의 외발자전거 운동이 대학생의 거북목 자세에 미치는 영향

        This study aimed to determine the effect of unicycle exercise on the turtle neck posture in university students. The subjects of this study were university students in their 20s. The experimental group was composed of 19 subjects; and the control group, 15 subjects. The experimental group performed unicycle exercise three times per week for 8 weeks. For evaluation of the turtle neck posture, the craniovertebral angle (CVA) and cranial rotation angle (CRA) were measured. The CVA showed a significant increase over time (p < .05) between the experimental and control groups (p < .05), and interaction between time and group (p < .05). The results showed a significant increase in CRA in the experimental group as compared with the control group (p < .05). Unicycle exercise is an effective alternative method for correction of turtle neck posture.

        고교야구선수의 배트 스윙 속도와 몸통 근육 두께 및 비대칭 간의 상관관계

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the bat swing speed, trunk muscle thickness of dominant side and non-dominant side, and asymmetry. This study was conducted on 30 high school baseball hitters. B-mode ultrasound imaging was used to measure the thickness of the both side of rectus abdominis, external abdominal oblique, internal abdominal oblique, transverse abdominal, abdominal wall and lumbar multifidus. As a result, there was a significant correlation between internal abdominal oblique of dominant side, abdominal wall and bat swing speed. There was no statistical correlation between the bat swing speed and muscle asymmetry. In conclusion, the size of muscle is more important than the asymmetry of muscles in the dominant and non-dominant sides.
