        A 0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3-based Pyroelectric Generator and Temperature Sensor

        We report the extremely-high pyroelectric power generation of a relaxor ferroelectric0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3 (PMN-0.3PT) single crystal. The pyroelectric current and voltageof PMN-0.3PT depend on the electric poling voltage, the temperature-variation rate, andthe measurement temperature. Near the structural transition temperatures of the rhombohedraltetragonaltransition (∼380 K) and the tetragonal-cubic transition (∼410 K), the temperatureinducedchange in the electric polarization results in a sharp enhancement of the pyroelectric power. Near the tetragonal-cubic transition temperature, i.e., the Curie temperature, we observe a pyroelectriccurrent of ∼100 nA and voltage of ∼11 V. Near room temperature, we observe a pyroelectriccurrent of ∼1.4 nA and voltage of ∼0.2 V from the touch of a human finger. These results implythat the relaxor ferroelectric PMN-0.3PT should be quite useful for pyroelectric energy-harvestingand temperature-sensing applications.

        Activation of PPARγ induces profound multilocularization of adipocytes in adult mouse white adipose tissues

        We sought to determine the effects of activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) on multilocularization of adipocytes in adult white adipose tissue (WAT). Male C57BL/6 normal, db/db, and ob/ob mice were treated with agonists of PPAR-γ, PPAR-α , or β3-adrenoceptor for 3 weeks. To distinguish multilocular adipocytes from unilocular adipocytes, wholemounted adipose tissues were co-immunostained for perilipin and collagen IV. PPAR-γ activation with rosiglitazone or pioglitazone induced a profound change of unilocular adipocytes into smaller, multilocular adipocytes in adult WAT in a time-dependent, dose-dependent, and reversible manner. PPAR-α activation with fenofibrate did not affect the number of locules or remodeling. db/db and ob/ob obese mice exhibited less multilocularization in response to PPAR-γ activation compared to normal mice. Nevertheless, all adipocytes activated by PPAR-γ contained a single nucleus regardless of locule number. Multilocular adipocytes induced by PPAR-γ activation contained substantially increased mitochondrial content and enhanced expression of uncoupling protein-1, PPAR-γ coactivator- 1-α , and perilipin. Taken together, PPAR-γ activation induces profound multilocularization and enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis in the adipocytes of adult WAT. These changes may affect the overall function of WAT.

        Compact Catadioptric Wide Imaging with Secondary Planar Mirror

        Wide FOV imaging systems are important for acquiring rich visual information. A conventional catadioptric imaging system deploys a camera in front of a curved mirror to acquire a wide FOV image. This is a cumbersome setup and causes unnecessary occlusions in the acquired image. In order to reduce both the burden of the camera deployment and the occlusions in the images, this study uses a secondary planar mirror in the catadioptric imaging system. A compact design of the catadioptric imaging system and a condition for the position of the secondary planar mirror to satisfy the central imaging are presented. The image acquisition model of the catadioptric imaging system with a secondary planar mirror is discussed based on the principles of geometric optics in this study. As a backward mapping, the acquired image is restored to a distortion-free image in the experiments.

        규제시차의 이론과 실제 : 산업융합 신제품 적합성 인증 사례를 중심으로

        기술발전의 속도가 가속화되면서 규제시차(regulatory lag)로 인한 사회적 손실이 커지고 있다. 규제시차는 정책시차의 하나로서 규제문제의 발생시점과 해결시점 사이의 시간차이를 의미한다. 규제시차는 규제의 생성 시점을 기준으로 내부시차와 외부시차로 구분된다. 본 연구는 규제시차에 대한 이론 논의를 통해 분석틀을 구성하고, 이를 활용하여 내부시차가 문제되는 산업융합 신제품 적합성 인증 사례를 분석한다. 또한 내부시차를 줄이기 위한 정부의 노력과 개선 방안을 토론하고, 신제품 적합성 인증 기준과 관련된 한국과 미국의 법령을 비교함으로써 규제시차 발생의 감소 방안을 논의한다. 본 연구는 규제시차에 대한 이론 논의를 시도하는 점에서 이론적 의의가 있고 규제시차 감소 방안을 제시하는 점에서 정책적 함의가 있다. As technological development is accelerating, regulatory lag lays heavier burdens on our society. Regulatory lag is a type of policy lags and is defined as the difference in time between occurrence and resolution of regulatory problems. Regulatory lag consists of inside and outside lag; the former is an amount of time consumed before regulation is created and the latter is an amount of time it takes until the government applies the regulation to specific problems. This study formulates the analytic frame through theoretical discussions on regulatory lag; using this tool, cases of conformity assessment are examined, in relation to new products from technological convergence, where the inside lag to be problematic; this study introduces efforts by the government to diminish the inside lag and discusses on how to improve such a problem. Additionally, this study compares the legal approaches to conformity assessment standards in South Korea and the United States and discusses measures to minimize the risk of regulatory lag. The Significance of this study and its implication on policies can be found in the theoretical discussion of regulatory lag and methodologies to reduce it.

        노인 라이프스타일의 집단적 특징에 따른 스포츠활동 참여동기 및 참여만족도

        The study inquires into what differences exist in the participation motives and the participation satisfaction of the sportsby the aged according to the group types of their lifestyles. In this study, 500 aged over 65 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province as of October, 2007 were sampled and surveyed through the questionnaires, and the 445 questionnaires out of 500 were used in the final analysis. In the questionnaire, lifestyle, participation motives and the satisfaction were used as three main scales. For the statistical data analysis, cluster analysis and one-way ANOVA (analysis ofvariance) were used through SPSS FOR WINDOWS 14.01 program. The analysis outcomes are as follows: First, the lifestyles of the aged sports participants can be classified into three types: ''passive," "stable," and "open." In all the sub- factors of the participation motives, the statistically significant differences appear among the three types of the lifest yles. Especially, the "open" type shows the average value higher than those of both "stable" and "passive" types. Also, in all the factors of the participation satisfaction, the significant differences appear among the three types of the lifestyles.

      • PCS 단말기용 유전체 공진기 대역 통과 필터의 설계 및 제작

        본 논문에서는 유전체 공진기와 캐패시터 또는 인덕터를 사용하여 원하는 주파수 대역에서 감쇠극을 갖는 대역 통과 필터를 설계 및 제작하였다. 이때, λ/4 TEM mode 세라믹 유전체 공진기를 사용하였으며 필터 설계시 유전체 공진기는 종단이 단락된 전송선로로 해석하였다. 필터의 통과대역은 1800~1825 MHz 이고 측정결과 필터의 중심 주파수. 대역폭 및 감쇠극의 주파수가 설계치와 일치하였다. In this paper. a band pass filter with attenuation poles in the desired frequency range was realized using series capacitor or inductor and dielectric resonator. And ceramic dielectric resonator which modeled as a transmission line with a shorted termination was used. The measured center frequency. bandwidth and attenuation frequency values closely agree with the design values.
