Diagnosis and Management of Lymphoplasmacytic Rhinitis in a Cat

A 7-year-old castrated, domestic shorthair cat was presented with a 2-year history of chronic nasal discharge and sneezing. Upon presentation, bilateral mucopurulent nasal discharge and stertorous respiration were marked. Physical examination revealed a tachypnea. Oral examination was unremarkable and chest radiology was normal. Findings of nasal cytology and skull radiology were not specific and further imaging technique, endoscopic examination and histopathology was performed for a definite diagnosis. Fluid, and/or soft tissue opacity was found in bilateral nasal cavity, nasopharyngeal regions and right side tympanic bulla through the CT scan. No evidence of neoplasia was revealed. A rigid rhinoscopy, flexible bronchoscopy and otoscopy was used for the visualization of the lesions and tissue biopsy biopsy was performed for histopathology. On histopathological examination, the nasal mass consisted mainly of large numbers of plasma cells and lymphocytes. And the final diagnosis was lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis based on histopathologic examination. Long term management with oral cyclosporine (5 mg/kg, BID) was safe and successful in this cat. This is the first case report described clinical and diagnostic characteristic features of feline lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis and its clinical outcome using oral cyclosporine in Korea.

Farmily relationship subscales of the Offer Self-Image Questionnaire for Adolescents were applied to 200 high school students. Factor analysis to that data extracted five factors. They were, negative feelings to the parents factor, negative self-image factor, expectation of the parents factor, compliance to the parents factor, and hostility to father factor. These results reemphasize the importance of the emotional interactions of the family members, especially relationship with parents, for the ealthy development and prevention of the misconduct of the adolescents

Successful Management of Feline Infectious Peritonitis with Human Recombinant Interferon-alpha and Pentoxifylline in a Cat

A 6-month-old intact female, domestic short hair cat was presented with dyspnea and anorexia for 2 days. Physical examination revealed muffled heart sound with labored breaths. Hyperproteinemia and hyperglobulinemia with polyclonal gammapathy was revealed. Pleural effusion was non-septic exudates, it also had hyperglobulinemia with decreased albumin:globuline ration. In addition, effusion RT-PCR for feline coronavirus was positive in this cat. Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) was strongly suspected and aggressive treatments with human interferon-alpha, pentoxifylline, and glucocorticoids were initiated. The cat remained healthy without recurrence of pleural effusion during 5 months follow-up periods. To the author’s knowledge, this is the first case report describing successful management of FIP with human interferon-alpha and pentoxifylline in Korea.

Patent Ductus Arteriosus Occlusion with an Amplatz^® Canine Duct Occluder in a Dog

A 10-month-old intact male Maltese dog (body weight, 1.6 kg) presented with intermittent cough and abnormal heart sounds. The dog was diagnosed with a left-to-right patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) on the basis of the results of transthoracic echocardiography, color flow Doppler examination, and angiography. Transcatheter occlusion of the PDA was performed using the Amplatz^® Canine Duct Occluder (ACDO) via the femoral artery. The device was placed under fluoroscopic guidance and successfully occluded the PDA. The continuous heart murmur disappeared immediately after the correction and no residual flow was detected. The dog was discharged the following day and regularly examined for complications and safety. This is the first report demonstrating the clinical application of ACDO for the transcatheter closure of PDA via the femoral artery in a small-breed dog in Korea.

More than 10 years after Jonathan Bergman, the founder of flip-learning, pointed out the reality of education in Korea and proposed alternatives, Korean universities are facing the advent of a new normal society with accelerated coronavirus infections. The fact that Korean universities are trying to maintain a certain percentage of non-face-to-face education even during the post-corona era. Therefore, blended learning is likely to become a new standard for university education. In response, this study will examine the concepts and characteristics of flip-learning, which has been attracting attention as a form of blended education in order to find ways to improve the quality of communication education in the post-corona era. Through this study, students will be able to understand their perception of the teaching method by reviewing the role of professors and the process of designing and implementing professors in accordance with the changed educational environment. 플립러닝의 창시자 조나단 버그만이 대한민국의 교육 현실을 지적하고 대안을 제시한 지 10여 년이 흐른 지금, 국내 대학은 코로나바이러스 감염증이 가속화 한 뉴노멀 사회의 도래와 대학 교육의 변화를 동시에 마주하고 있다. 이러한 가운데 다수의 국내 대학이 포스트 코로나 시대에도 비대면 교육의 비율을 일정 정도 유지하고자 하겠다는 의사를 밝힘에 따라 블렌디드 러닝은 새로운 대학 교육의 규준이 될 가능성이 있음을 보여주고 있다. 논자는 이러한 변화에 대응하기 위하여 블렌디드 교육의 한 형태로 주목받아 온 플립러닝을 의사소통 교과목에 어떻게 적용할 수 있을지 운영사례를 중심으로 살피고, 학습자를 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하여 플립러닝에 관한 인식을 검토하고자 한다. 또, 각 단계에서 도출한 한계를 개선하기 위하여 ARCS 학습 동기이론을 적용한 ‘F-ARCS 모형(안)’을 제안하고자 한다. 대학 교육에서 점차 비중을 넓혀갈 블렌디드 러닝을 플립러닝을 중심으로 살펴볼 본 연구는 교육환경의 변화에 부합하는 교수자의 역할과 교수 설계 및 실행 과정을 검토하고, 해당 교수학습법에 대한 학습자들의 인식을 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

문학공간의 상징성 연구 -토포스(topos)로서의 편의점을 중심으로-

I think we live in an era in which “epic change” and “parallel times,” “close and close times” are developed simultaneously. Under these circumstances, it is difficult to understand novels. However, I thought it was a convenient way to open up discussions on the new reality perception that “historical sharing” has led to space discourse and how to understand the incomprehensibility of metadata companies. In particular, the aesthetic discourse “Here and Now” helps us to come close to judgment and choice consistent with value, becomes simple ethics for daily life, and serves as a clue to what the tragedy of the community is. Therefore, it is meaningful to analyze the story. Based on this judgment, I looked at the literature text “Here and Now” more clearly. In particular, the study assumed that CVS were topos. As a result, CVS have penetrated through rapid growth, become a space of familiarity with personal consumption patterns, and function as literary entities with social and moral qualities. It was then revealed that the hero's life was a space that had become a meaning. In addition, it has also been confirmed that CVS are good enough to describe daily ethics as a metaphorical and symbolic topology. This study is a new attempt to observe CVS in literary space, which have been described as a space to represent the lives of cities and small people since the 1980s, and it has been a result of the relationship between everyday space and literature. ‘서사적 전환’과 “병렬의 시대, 근접과 멂의 시대”가 동시에 전개되는 상황에서 공간 담론은 서사와 메타서사의 불가해성을 이해하는 방법론으로, ‘사적 공유화’가 낳은 새로운 현실 인식에 관한 논의를 개진하는 방편으로 유의미할 수 있다. 특히 ‘지금, 여기(Here and Now)’라는 미학적 담론은 가치에 부합되는 판단과 선택에 가까워지도록 해줄 뿐 아니라, 일상에 대한 소박한 윤리학이며, 공동체의 비극이 무엇인지를 규명하는 실마리로 작용할 수 있다는 점에서 서사를 분석할 때 유의미할 수 있다. 논자는 이러한 생각을 토대로 문학텍스트의 ‘지금, 여기’를 보다 또렷이 살피고자 ‘편의점’을 토포스(topos)로 가정하고 논의를 전개하였다. 그 결과, 편의점은 비약적인 성장을 거치면서 일상 깊숙이 침투해 개인의 소비패턴을 상세히 알고 있는 공간이자, 시대에 따라 사회적・도덕적 자질을 아우르는 문학적 주체로 기능하면서 주인공의 삶을 의미화해 왔음을 파악할 수 있었다. 또 이러한 성격으로 말미암아 편의점은 시시각각 변모하는 일상의 윤리학을 은유적이고도 상징적으로 보여주는 토포스라고 불리기에 충분할 수 있다는 사실 또한 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 1980년대부터 도시와 소시민의 삶을 대변하는 공간으로 묘사되어 온 편의점을 문학공간으로 살피는 새로운 시도이자 일상공간과 문학의 관계성을 살피는 노력이라는 의미를 가질 수 있다.

장소성 형성을 위한 역사인물의 활용방안 -충남 천안의 충무공 김시민 관련 유적을 중심으로-

It has been pointed out that cultural contents based on historical characters can be arbitrarily divided. Nevertheless, it has attracted local governments′ attention because it is possible to acquire universality and peculiarity at the same time, improve cultural awareness, and ultimately revitalize the economy. However, there were many cases in which there were no practical measures or directions. As a result, there are many cultural contents that can be avoided not only from visitors but also from local residents. Therefore, let's look at the direction and method of cultural content that can invoke universal values through the remains and relics of Chungmugong Kim Si-Min. Through this process, Kim will not be a historical figure remaining in a particular time and space, but will arouse a spirit of objectivity that is recognized in society by acquiring universality beyond time and space. 지금까지 축적된 역사인물콘텐츠의 수만 보더라도 ‘지금, 여기’에 있지 않더라도 역사인물이 개인과 공동체에 미치는 영향력은 적지 않아 보인다. ‘역사’로 불리는 먼 과거를 살았던 인물이, 어떤 이유로, ‘지금, 여기’를 살아가는 우리에게 각광받고 있을까? 이에 대한 답은 개인과 공동체로 거칠게 나누어 생각해 볼 수 있다. 전자의 경우, “當代를 살아가는 독자들이 삶의 의미를 음미”하고, “우리 삶의 한 전형적인 인물의 삶이 이야기”하는 인류 보편가치를 환기한다는 점에서 논의를 전개할 수 있을 것이다. 또한, 공동체의 입장에서는 지역에 산재한 유․무형의 역사문화자원과 연계해 정체성을 강조․확산하고 향유자의 방문을 유도할 수 있는 대상으로 여기는 경향이 크다고 판단된다. 논자는 이와 같은 흐름과 입장에 적극적으로 동의하는 동시에 역사인물이 밈(meme)을 형성하는 요인으로 작용할 수 있고, 지역에 산재한 유․무형의 문화자원과 연계될 때 새로운 장소성을 형성할 수 있다는 가정을 마련하였다. 이상의 가정을 검증하기 위하여 ‘역사인물을 활용한 장소성 형성방안’이라는 연구주제를 마련하였으며, 구체적인 연구대상으로 충무공 김시민 장군과 그의 고향인 충남 천안시를 선정하였다. 충남 천안시는 김시민의 고향이지만 “다소 의아심이 들 만큼 구체적인 계승과 발양의 흔적이 없었고, 이를 아쉬워하는 사람들이 많았”고, “대규모 개발사업, 혹은 정신과 역사의 계승이 축소된 모습들이 재현되지 않”았다는 점에서 논의의 필요성이 있다고 여겨진다. 논의의 진행을 위하여 충남 천안시의 충무공 김시민 장군(이하, 김시민) 유적 및 유물을 총체적으로 검토하였으며, 그중에서 이야기가치(story value)가 높다고 여겨지는 1) 생가터와 사사처를 중심으로 천안시의 김시민 유적과 관련 스토리, 키워드를 검토하였다. 또 2) 김시민콘텐츠의 방향과 활용방안을 제시하고, 3) 장기적인 측면에서 고려해야 할 내용을 논의하였다.
