<P>The abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in arterial walls is an important pathogenic factor of vascular disorders such as diabetic atherosclerosis. We have reported the anti-inflammatory effect of an aqueous extract from <I>Prunella vulgaris</I> (APV) in vascular endothelial cell. In the present study, APV exhibited inhibitory effects on high glucose-stimulated VSMC proliferation, migration, and invasion activities, inducing G<SUB>1</SUB> cell cycle arrest with downregulation of cyclins and CDKs and upregulation of the CKIs, p21<SUP>waf1/cip1</SUP> and p27<SUP>kip1</SUP>. Furthermore, APV dose dependently suppressed the high glucose-induced matrix metalloproteinase activity. High glucose-induced phosphorylation of ERK, p38 MAPK, was decreased by the pretreatment of APV. NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B activation by high glucose was attenuated by APV, as an antioxidant. APV attenuated the high glucose-induced decrease of nuclear factor E2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) translocation and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression. Intracellular cGMP level was also increased by APV treatment. These results demonstrate that APV may inhibit VSMC proliferation via downregulating ROS/NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B /ERK/p38 MAPK pathways. In addition, APV has a beneficial effect by the interaction of Nrf2-mediated NO/cGMP with HO-1, suggesting that <I>Prunella vulgaris</I> may be useful in preventing diabetic atherosclerosis.</P>

Understanding of water vaporization is the first step to anticipate the conversion process of urea into ammonia in the exhaust stream. As aqueous urea is a mixture and the urea in the mixture acts as a non-volatile solute, its colligative properties should be considered during water vaporization. The elevation of boiling point for urea water solution is measured with respect to urea mole fraction. With the boiling-point elevation relation, a model for water vaporization is proposed underlining the correction of the heat of vaporization of water in the urea water mixture due to the enthalpy of urea dissolution in water. The model is verified by the experiments of water vaporization as well. Finally, the water vaporization model is applied to the water vaporization of aqueous urea droplets. It is shown that urea decomposition can begin before water evaporation finishes due to the boiling-point elevation.

<P>Effect of different solvents on the clay dispersion and the final properties of the thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs)/clay nanocomposites prepared via solution mixing was studied. The polyether- and polyester-based TPUs were used along with organically modified clays (C30B, C25A, and C15A) and the pristine montmorillonite (PM). Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) were used as solvents for solution mixing. Nanocomposites containing C30B prepared from DMAc solution showed the better clay dispersion than the ones from THF solution, while THF gave the better dispersion of clays for nanocomposites containing C15A. Morphologies of the nanocomposites were observed to be determined not only by the state of clay dispersion in different solvents but also by the interaction between the polymer and the specific clay. Affinity between solvents and clays becomes important when there is no specific interaction between the clay and the polymer of interest, or when the interaction between the two is rather weak. The compatibility between clays and polymers becomes dominating if there exists a specific interaction between the two. FTIR analysis was conducted to study the interactions involved in the nanocomposites. 인터넷의 사용이 보편화됨에 따라 웹 문서의 양은 방대해지고 있으며 이에 따라 웹 문서 검색 및 전자 도서관 구축 등의 선행 작업으로서 웹 문서 자동 분류의 중요성은 점점 강조되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 웹 문서에서 추출한 핵심 용어의 분석 및 의사결정 트리 모델을 이용하여 웹 문서를 경제 사회 스포츠 정치의 네 가지의 범주로 분류하는 웹 문서 분류 시스템을 제시한다. 이러한 분류 시스템을 통해 사용자는 다량의 문서를 내용 검토 없이 자동적으로 분류함으로써 웹 문서 검색의 정확도를 증진시킬 수 있고 보다 효과적인 문서 분류 체계를 구축할 수 있다. 의사결정 트리 모델로서 비교적 높은 분류 성능을 보이는 C5.0을 구현한 상용소프트웨어를 사용하여 분류 모델을 구축하였으며 실험 결과 제시한 웹 문서 분류 시스템은 높은 분류 정확도를 보여주었다.
Applications of Command Shaping Methods for Reducing Residual Vibration in Industrial Servo Systems

This paper presents an application of the command shaping method to industrial servo systems. The command shaping method, such as input shapers and bi-quad notch filters, is a well-known control technique for reducing residual vibrations. An input shaper cancels out the vibration using the convolution of a sequence of impulses with a reference command. A bi-quad notch filter places the filter zeros near the resonant poles of the closed-loop system and places highly damped filter poles. This paper compares the performance of three command shaping methods, which are zero vibration (ZV) input shaper, ZV and zero derivative (ZVD) input shaper, and a bi-quad notch filter. Numerical simulations are performed in various frequency ranges to measure the performance of the command shaping methods. Experiments are also performed using an industrial servo system to show that the command shaping methods successfully remove the residual vibration of the system, and have similar results for the various ratio of estimated frequency to actual frequency as in the numerical simulations.
