Imaging Characteristics of Perosomus elumbis in a Puppy
Sooyoung Choi,Byungho Lee,Byungdon Lee,Jiwon Seo,Hyunyoung Park,Kyunghun Kwon,Youngwon Lee,Hojung Choi 한국수정란이식학회 2015 한국동물생명공학회지 Vol.30 No.4
A 4-day-old, male Poodle dog was presented with dull, depressed and exhausted activity after the birth. On physical examination, the puppy showed arthrogryposis, muscular atrophy and no movement of hindlimbs. Palpation on dorsum revealed an absence of lumbar and sacral vertebrae. On prenatal and postnatal radiography, lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccygeal vertebrae were not visualized. On ultrasonography, bilateral kidney and urinary bladder were observed. On computed tomography, there were no apparent abnormalities in the forelimbs, cervical vertebrae or head, while lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccygeal vertebrae were not observed. At necropsy examination, the liver, stomach, intestine, kidney and urinary bladder were normal. This congenital anomaly was consistent with Perosomus elumbis. Perosomus elumbis in dogs is a rare condition of unknown etiology. In this report, Perosomus elumbis was evaluated with radiography, ultrasound and computed tomography.

A-PET is a quad-head PET scanner developed for use in small-animal imaging. The dimensions of its volumetric field of view (FOV) are 46:1 46:1 46:1 mm3 and the gap between the detector modules has been minimized in order to provide a highly sensitive system. However, such a small FOV together with the quad-head geometry causes image quality degradation. The main factor related to image degradation for the quad-head PET is the mispositioning of events caused by the penetration effect in the detector. In this paper, we propose a precise method for modelling the system at the high spatial resolution of the A-PET using a LOR (line of response) based ML-EM (maximum likelihood expectation maximization) that allows for penetration effects. The proposed system model provides the detection probability of every possible ray-path via crystal sampling methods. For the ray-path sampling, the sub-LORs are defined by connecting the sampling points of the crystal pair. We incorporate the detection probability of each sub-LOR into the model by calculating the penetration effect. For comparison, we used a standard LOR-based model and a Monte Carlo-based modeling approach, and evaluated the reconstructed images using both the National Electrical Manufacturers Association NU 4-2008 standards and the Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission simulation toolkit (GATE). An average full width at half maximum (FWHM) at different locations of 1.77 mm and 1.79 mm are obtained using the proposed system model and standard LOR system model, which does not include penetration effects, respectively. The standard deviation of the uniform region in the NEMA image quality phantom is 2.14% for the proposed method and 14.3% for the LOR system model, indicating that the proposed model out-performs the standard LOR-based model.
Design and Analysis of the Eddy Current Brake with the Winding Change
Sooyoung Cho,Huai-Cong Liu,Ju Lee,Chang-Moo Lee,Sung-Chul Go,Sang-Hwan Ham,Jong-Hyuk Woo,Hyung-Woo Lee 한국자기학회 2017 Journal of Magnetics Vol.22 No.1
This paper is a study of the eddy current brake designed to replace the air brake of railway application. The eddy current brake has the advantage of being able to take a high current density compared to the other application because this brake is used for applying brakes to the rolling stock for a shorter amount of time. Also, this braking system has the merit of being able to take a high current density at low speed rather than at high speed, because the heat generated by the low speed operation is less than that of the high speed operation. This paper also presents a method of improving the output torque of the eddy current brake at low speed operation through a change of the winding as well as the basic design.

The pace of aging in Korea is the fastest in the world. At the same time, this situation tells us that measures for coping with the problems of the aging sociality should be urgently should be taken since the number of senior population is on the rise. Therefore the church should be involved in senior problems which are in the blind‐area of the government and society. In the past the ministry of the Korean the church was concentrated on the growth of human resources and physical resources. However, the church should realize that all the resources the church has are great resources to carry out senior welfare ministry in the aging society. Korean the church should try to follow the love and power that God had showed many people and should realize that it must give its love to the elderly. The church should develop various programs which could understand the emotions and identity of the elderly and try to make systematic welfare service. Therefore, this paper describes that the Korean church should be actively involved in social welfare work through mission work according to the requests of the society and the practice of the essence of Christianity. At the same time, the purpose of this paper is to make the Korean church pay more attention to social problems and have them participate in social welfare service via missionary work. In the early days, the Korean church showed unconditional love and service spirit but churches in modern society focuses on external growth. Korean church, in the aging society, tries to find out the implication of Christianity social welfare ministry and then to recover its healthiness by participating senior welfare ministry.
IgE-mediated food allergies in children: prevalence, triggers, and management
Lee, Sooyoung The Korean Pediatric Society 2017 Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics (CEP) Vol.60 No.4
Food allergy (FA) is a serious health problem, and severe FA such as food-induced anaphylaxis can often be life threatening. The incidence of FA has been increasing especially in children. They usually develop early in life and affect up to 10% of children. The 2 most common food allergens worldwide are milk and eggs, while the third one varies depending on the countries: peanuts in the United States and Switzerland, wheat in Germany and Japan, tree nuts in Spain, sesame in Israel, and walnuts in Korea. These common food allergens are different and difficult to identify because of differing study methodologies, population, geography, age, and dietary exposure patterns. The current management of FA relies on the strict avoidance of culprit allergens, the prompt treatment of allergic reactions, including epinephrine use for food-induced anaphylaxis, monitoring, and education to prevent further reactions. Newer approaches for tolerance induction to FA and FA immunotherapy have been under investigation but are not yet ready for real-world application. Thus, consistent and systematic education of patients, caregivers, and food-handling people is of primary importance for the management and prevention of FA reactions. This review assesses and compares IgE-mediated FA in children in Korea and other countries, with a focus on summarizing the prevalence, common triggers, and management of FA.

Objectives

We aimed to develop a common health information exchange (HIE) platform that can provide integrated services for implementing the HIE infrastructure in addition to guidelines for participating in an HIE network in South Korea.

Methods

By exploiting the Health Level 7 (HL7) Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Cross-enterprise Document Sharing-b (XDS.b) profile, we defined the architectural model, exchanging data items and their standardization, messaging standards, and privacy and security guidelines, for a secure, nationwide, interoperable HIE. We then developed a service-oriented common HIE platform to minimize the effort and difficulty of fulfilling the standard requirements for participating in the HIE network.
