2022 Food and Life Vol.2022 No.1
As the global population increases and issues regarding health, environment, and animal welfare emerge, interest in alternative proteins is rising along with the emphasis on sustainability and food security in agriculture and livestock. Based on protein sources, alternative proteins can be divided into plant-based meat, animal cell-cultured meat, and edible insect. Alternative meat market will keep growing and accounting for 11% of the total protein food market by 2035. America has the largest share in the alternative protein market. Many food companies and startups are developing and distributing alternative proteins in Korea which is ranked 38th. Among them, plant based meat shows advantages in terms of production cost and safety verification, but may present some issues that include anti-nutrients and allergens. Animal-derived cell cultured meat can best mimic traditional meat products, but may have concerns for food safety and high production cost. In order to shift from traditional animal based meat production into extraction-, fermentation-, or culture-based alternative protein manufacturing system, it is necessary to understand the origins, pros and cons, and the current status of research and market for better forecast their future promises and challenges.
Linear programming method for computing the gamut of object color solid.
Li, Changjun,Luo, M Ronnier,Cho, Maeng-Sub,Kim, Jin-Seo The Society 2010 Journal of the Optical Society of America. A, Opti Vol.27 No.5

Recently there has been great interest in establishing the color gamut of solid colors or the optimum colors. The optimum colors are widely used for quantifying the quality of light sources and evaluating reproduction devices. An enumeration method was developed by Martinez-Verdu et al. [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 24, 1501 (2007)] for finding optimum colors. However, it was found that the method is too time-costly. In this paper, a linear programming approach is proposed. The proposed method is simple and faster and has the advantage of keeping the characteristics of the true boundary. Comparison of the present method with the method of Martinez-Verdu et al. is also given.

In this study, the controller of a SBW (Steer-by-Wire) system was developed. As a SBW system is applied in order to improve steering feel and maneuverability, the controller should have two aims. One is controlling steering wheel for the driver's steering feel and the other is controlling the front wheel steering linkage for vehicle stability. In order to the tie-rod actuating SBW controller analysis, 6-bar linkage kinematics was investigated. The controller of the tie-rod actuating SBW was used the Ackerman Geometry for improving the vehicle stability. Verification simulation and performance simulation are showed that the SBW controller was available in this study.
Fabrication of SiC nanoparticles by physical milling for ink-jet printing.
Kim, Jong-Woong,Shim, Jae-Shik,Maeng, Changjun,Kim, Young-Sung,Ahn, Jinho,Kwak, Min-Gi,Hong, Sung-Jei,Cho, Hyun-Min American Scientific Publishers 2013 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.13 No.8

Here we tried to show the possibility of mechanical milling method for fabrication of SiC nanoparticles and ink-jet printing method to make SiC patterns for use as several applications, e.g., micro hotplates. Planetary milling was employed to fabricate the nano-scale SiC particles from coarse powders. After 100 hours of milling, the size of the SiC particles decreased to about 100 nm, which was sufficient for the formulation of ink for ink-jet printing. The SiC particles were dispersed in an ink system consisted of ethylene glycol and ethanol with a small amount of additives. The ink with SiC nanoparticles could be successfully printed on an alumina substrate by the ink-jet printing method.

Environment, food, and disease have a selective force on the present and future as well as our genome. Adaptation of livestock and the environmental nexus, including forest encroachment for anthropological needs, has been proven to cause emerging infectious diseases. Further, these demand changes in meat production and market systems. Meat is a reliable source of protein, with a majority of the world population consumes meat. To meet the increasing demands of meat production as well as address issues, such as current environmental pollution, animal welfare, and outbreaks, cellular agriculture has emerged as one of the next industrial revolutions. Lab grown meat or cell cultured meat is a promising way to pursue this; however, it still needs to resemble traditional meat and be assured safety for human consumption. Further, to mimic the palatability of traditional meat, the process of cultured meat production starts from skeletal muscle progenitor cells isolated from animals that proliferate and differentiate into skeletal muscle using cell culture techniques. Due to several lacunae in the current approaches, production of muscle replicas is not possible yet. Our review shows that constant research in this field will resolve the existing constraints and enable successful cultured meat production in the near future. Therefore, production of cultured meat is a better solution that looks after environmental issues, spread of outbreaks, antibiotic resistance through the zoonotic spread, food and economic crises.
