퀼트(QUILT)기법을 응용한 패션일러스트레이션 연구

현대 사회 속에서 패션 일러스트레이션은 패션의 이미지를 대중에게 전달하고 디자인의 조형성을 효과적으로 표현함으로써 실용적 기능성을 내포한 독창적이고 개성 있는 예술 분야로 발전해 가고 있으며, 현대 회화와의 공감 형성으로 고유한 예술성을 표현한 작품이 그 가치를 인정받고 있다. 이와 같이 패션 일러스트레이션의 예술적 가치가 고양됨에 따라 현대의 패션 일러스트레이션은 개성 있는 시각적 표현의 미적 예술성에 더 많은 가치를 두고 장식성과 예술성이 극대화된 순수 미술의 표현 영역으로 확대되어 가고 있다. 실용적 기능성을 내포한 고도의 예술적 표현을 통해 그 가치가 더욱 확대되면서, 패션 일러스트레이션은 대중의 호소력을 끌 만한 신선하고, 혁신적인 감각을 시각화하여 그 이미지를 전달할 수 있는 새로운 접근에 따라 소재와 기법에 대한 다양한 시도가 끊임없이 요구되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 패션 일러스트레이션의 표현 기법에도 다양한 변화를 보여 그 표현 영역을 확대해 가고 있다. 본 연구에서는 오랜 역사를 통해 존재해 온 전통 퀼트 기법을 새로운 표현 방법으로 도입하여 패션 일러스트레이션의 표현 영역을 확대시키고, 퀼트 기법에 따르는 부조적 효과를 시도해 보고 수공예적인 기법으로서만 창출할 수 있는 정교하고 자유스러움을 담은 패션 이미지를 표현함으로서, 감각적인 이미지 표현을 넘어서 패션 일러스트레이션의 예술적 가치를 높이는데 그 목적을 두었다. 연구의 내용 및 방법은 이론적 배경으로 패션 일러스트레이션의 개념과 역사를 문헌을 통해 살펴보고, 전시 작품, 논문, 출판물 및 기타 잡지 등의 매체를 통해 자료를 수집하여 기능 및 표현 유형을 살펴보았으며, 국내외 문헌과 인터넷 검색 자료를 중심으로 퀼트 기법의 개념 및 기원을 고찰하고 작품들을 표집하고 분석하여 기법이 실제로 활용되는 모습을 정리하였다. 이를 토대로 작품 제작에 있어서 퀼트 기법을 현대적으로 응용하여 제작하였으며, 독특한 시각적 입체감과 섬세한 표현 효과를 통해 패션 이미지를 전달하는데 있어 퀼트의 잠재적 가능성을 연구하고자 총 10점의 패션 일러스트레이션을 제작하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이론적 연구를 통해 오랜 역사 속에서 형성된 퀼트 기법이 현대에서도 다양한 작품에서 충분히 활용되고 있으며 그 쓰임의 폭이 넓고 다양하기 때문에 보다 더 새로운 장르에서 충분히 활용할 가치가 있다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 실제 의상의 소재를 활용한 회화적이고 섬세한 연출로 패션 일러스트레이션의 소재 표현과 의상의 아름다움을 정확히 표현하고 복합적인 패션 이미지를 보다 효율적으로 전달할 수 있는 새로운 방식으로서의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 퀼트 기법이 시각적 재질감과 함께 손으로 직접 만져서 느낄 수 있는 촉각적 재질감을 동시에 표현함으로써 다양한 시각적 표현을 높일 수 있으므로, 부조적 표현의 독특한 입체적 조형성에 대한 무한한 가능성을 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 패션 일러스트레이션에 있어서 전통적 퀼트 기법을 현대적 감각으로 재해석하여 활용함으로서 다양하고 개성적인 표현의 가능성을 제시했다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있었다. 따라서 앞으로의 패션 일러스트레이션은 독창적이고 새로운 시도와 기법들로 표현 영역을 확대함으로써 패션 일러스트레이션의 예술적 가치를 높여 나가는 노력이 계속되어야 할 것이다. In modern society, fashion illustration is developing into one of practical, original and individual art genres that conveys fashion image to the mass and represents the plasticity of design. Specifically, the types of works that features unique artistry by creating sympathy with modern painting are widely considered worthwhile. As its artistic value is increasingly recognized, modern fashion illustration gives weight to individual, visual and aesthetic artistry, and it's finding its way into pure art that is full of ornamentation and artistry. And it's needed to make ceaseless and diverse attempts to look for new matters and techniques to visualize fresh and innovative things that could appeal to the public. The purpose of this study was to introduce time-honored quilting as a new vocabulary of expression to enlarge the expression area of fashion illustration and produce its relief effect. It's additionally meant to create the types of elaborate and liberal fashion image that could only be generated by handicraft techniques, in an effort to put higher artistry into fashion illustration. The literature on the concept and history of fashion illustration was reviewed, and relevant data were compiled by looking into displayed works, articles and publications to see how it functioned and in which way it's represented. Domestic literature and online data were investigated to define quilting and track its origin. And fashion-illustration works were gathered and analyzed to identify how quilting was actually utilized. And then eight fashion-illustration works were produced by applying quilting in a modern manner in order to find out whether or not quilting could serve to generate a unique visual cubic effect and convey fashion image successfully. The findings of this study were as follows: First, as a result of looking into the theoretical data, it's ascertained that long-standing quilting continued to be utilized in various ways in modern times, and that it's valuable enough to be used in new genre. Second, taking advantage of real materials of apparel made the works look more pictorial and delicate and conveyed complicated fashion image successfully. Third, quilting served to put more visual and tactile life into the materials, opening unlimited possibility for enriching the cubic plasticity of relief-life expression. The attempt in this study to take a new look at conventional quilting and utilize it for fashion illustration is expected to open up a new chapter for that. In the future, there should be continuous efforts to take fashion illustration to another level by attempting various new and original techniques.

현대 패션에 표현된 패치워크 퀼트기법 특성에 관한 연구

현대 사회는 디지털의 발달로 인한 일상생활의 변화로 생활과 가치관이 혁신적인 변화를 초래하였다. 또한, 개인 소비 욕구의 다양화와 다변화 경향의 증대로 점차 보고 느끼고 즐길 수 있는 디지털 감성 사회로 변모하고 있다. 이에 패션에서도 고전적이고 관습적인 사고에서 탈피하여 독창적인 소재나 구성 방식을 감성적인 패션으로 차용하는 것이 중요하게 주목받았다. 그로 인하여 패치워크 퀼트에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 퀼트와 패치워크 퀼트에 관한 정의와 개념을 이해하여 현 시대에 표현된 패치워크 퀼트 패션에 어떻게 상업적· 예술적 가치로 확장해 나가는지 규명하고자 한다. 이를 토대로 패치워크 퀼트 패션의 경향을 이해하고 지속적인 패치워크 퀼트를 활용한 보다 수준 높은 패션 산업을 연구할 수 있는 기초자료로 활용될 수 있음에 연구의 의의가 있다. 패치워크 퀼트의 기법 유형 사례를 분류하여 패치워크 퀼트 기법 표현한 대표적 디자이너 컬렉션의 의상에서 시각적 디자인 조형요소와 선행연구의 표현유형을 분석 도구로 삼아 패치워크 퀼트의 표현 특징을 분석 후 특성을 도출하여 빈도 분석함으로써 현대 패션에 퀼트 패션이 어떻게 표현되는지 포괄적으로 재조명하고자 한다. 연구의 대상으로 패치워크 퀼트를 선정 이유는 최근 인터넷 포털사이트의 구글에서 키워드로 패치워크 관련어로 검색조회 수가 많았고 퀼트 기법이 패션 트렌드의 디테일로서 점점 관심이 증가하는 것을 알 수 있다. 지속적인 기술의 발전과 다른 산업 분야의 경계가 무너지고 동시다발적으로 융합형태로 나타나는 현대 사회의 시대적 흐름을 읽고 패션디자이너들도 감성적이며 창의적인 표현이 가능한 패치워크 퀼트 기법이 사용된 컬렉션을 끊이지 않고 선보이고 있기 때문이다. 본 연구의 연구 방법은 문헌 연구를 바탕으로 패치워크 퀼트의 개념 고찰과 유형을 분류하였다. 또한, 컬렉션 사진을 중심으로 한 사례연구를 하여 현대 패션에 표현된 패치워크 퀼트 기법 특징과 특성을 도출한 후 기간별로 나타난 패치워크 퀼트의 특징과 디자이너별 패치워크 퀼트의 특성과 표현 양상을 빈도 분석을 병행하였다. 연구의 범위는 이론적 연구로 문헌 자료를 중심으로 시각 자료는 최근 5년간 컬렉션 중 2013년 S/S부터 2017년 F/W 중 여성복에 한정하여 사진을 수집하여 활용하였다. 시각적 조형요소와 선행연구에서 추출한 퀼트의 표현 유형을 도출하여 패션 관련 석사수료 이상의 5인 전문가 집단이 10명의 디자이너 컬렉션의 패치워크 퀼트가 반영된 착장 사진 1,676장의 표현 특성을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 현대 패션에 표현된 패치워크 퀼트 기법의 표현 유형을 기법과 소재의 다양화, 전통 패치워크의 재구성, 새로운 형태의 조형적 구성, 확장되는 이중적 이미지의 순으로 도출하였다. 그리고 기간별 빈도 분석 결과, 기법과 소재의 다양화가 전체의 67% 로 2013년에는 90% 이상의 편향된 경향을 보였으나 2014년부터는 다른 표현 기법이 다양하게 나타나는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구의 현대 패션에 표현된 패치워크 퀼트의 특성은 가변성, 절충성, 전환성, 유희성으로 분석하여 도출하였다. 이를 통해 패치워크 퀼트의 표현 유형과 특성을 이해하는 데 도움이 되고 복식문화 해석 범위를 확대하고 패션디자인의 개발과 발전에 다양하게 활용되기를 기대한다.

아트퀼트의 역사적 형성과정과 쟁점 : 미국을 중심으로

퀼트는 전통적으로 서구의 가정에서 사용되는 실용적 형태와 용도를 갖춘 침 구류인 이불과 스프레드의 형태로 이해된다. 하지만 오늘날에는 퀼트를 예술로 바라보아야한다는 인식과 주장이 강조되고 있고, 특히 미국에서 퀼트는 이미 예 술성을 갖춘 작품 즉 아트퀼트로 수용되고 있다. 1980년대 중반경 한국에도 유 입되어 발전하면서 아트퀼트의 제작과 전시회가 활성화되어 오고 있지만, 아트 퀼트의 역사와 담론에 대한 국내의 연구는 현저히 부족한 상황이다. 따라서 본 논문은 우선 퀼트와 패치워크의 기원과 물리적 구조, 기법 등을 살펴본 후, 퀼트에 서 아트퀼트로의 위상 변화 과정과 현재 ‘퀼트’와 ‘아트퀼트’가 어떻게 구분, 논의되고 있는지 추적하고자 했다. 또한 미국 역사 속에서 평가된 퀼트의 주요한 의의들을 정리하였고, 퀼트에서 아트퀼트로의 위상변화과정과 현재 어떻게 그들 이 구분되고 있는지에 관하여도 살펴보았다. 특히 아트퀼트의 선구적 정립을 이 룬 미국을 중심으로 면직물이 서구로 소개된 대항해 시대부터 2000년대에 이르 기까지 퀼트가 발전·확산하게 되는 주요 역사적 계기들과 아트퀼트로 정착하게 되는 변곡점을 살펴보고, ‘퀼트/아트퀼트’를 둘러싼 주요 쟁점과 의의를 점검 하였다. 전통적으로 전승된 유럽의 바느질 공예는 십자군 원정시기에 유입된 퀼팅기법 과 결합하였고, 이후 대항해 시대를 거치면서 인도의 면직물이 유럽으로 유입되 면서 패치워크 퀼트가 제작되었다. 북미대륙의 식민지 시기 유럽인들이 이주하 는 과정에서 이러한 퀼트 문화도 함께 이주하여 확산되기 시작하였고, 이후 산 업화 시대를 거치면서 미국적인 퀼트는 여성들을 중심으로 교류, 발전, 전승되 면서 전통 퀼트로 정착한다. 특히 미국에서 퀼트는 19세기 말부터는 전통 예술 로서의 가치를 인정받아 국가적 정체성의 상징으로 대두하며 ‘근검절약’과 ‘개척정신’의 실천이라는 신화적 믿음을 형성하였고, 기능적인 측면에서는 일 상생활을 위한 필수품이자 가정의 보살핌을 은유하는 메타포로도 인식되어왔다. 또한 퀼트는 여성들의 창의성을 구현하는 주요한 예술 매체이기도 하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 20세기 중반까지 퀼트는 예술계의 모더니즘적 관행 속에서 여전히 순수예술이 아닌 기능적 공예의 한 장르로 간주되었다. 1960~70년대 포 스트모더니즘 시대에 접어들면서 순수 미술 분야의 일부 작가들이 기존의 모더 니즘적 순수 미술을 비판하면서 탈장르적 창작을 시도하였는데, 그 과정에서 퀼 트를 활용하는 사례들이 등장하기 시작했다. 특히 몇몇 페미니스트 예술가들은 과거 남성 중심적인 억압적 역사 속에서 묵묵히 실천되어온 여성적 예술 표현매 체로서의 퀼트의 가치에 주목하면서 퀼트를 적극적인 시각 매체로 활용하였다. 또한 아카데믹한 교육을 받은 공예가들 역시 작품에서 기능성을 배제한 순수한 예술적 시도를 감행하면서 기존의 전통 퀼트와 차별화된 작품들을 제작하기도 하였다. 그리고 1971년에 열렸던 《미국 퀼트의 추상적 디자인전》은 현대적 예 술 관점에서 전통 퀼트가 함유한 모더니즘적 추상미술로서의 의미를 발굴하면서 퀼트를 예술로 전시하기 시작하는 중요한 계기가 되었다. 1980년대에는 퀼트의 대대적인 문서화 작업이 이루어지기 시작하면서 전통 퀼트 유물들의 데이터화가 진행되었고, 전문 박물관과 연구소의 설립 등이 잇따르게 된다. 또한, 퀼트계의 적극적인 담론 형성과 예술성 실현을 뒷받침할 수 있는 여러 전문 협회의 설립 그리고 이들 협회를 중심으로 진행된 다양한 활동과 교육의 확대 등은 아트퀼트 의 창작과 전시를 확산시키는 원동력으로 작용하였고, 아트퀼트가 예술계로 진 입하며 자리 잡을 수 있는 기반이 되었다. 이러한 연구, 소장, 전시, 교육, 제 도화 등의 복합적인 차원에서의 노력이 이루어지면서, 마침내 1986년 《아트퀼 트》라는 제목의 선언적인 전시를 통해 아트퀼트는 예술계에 본격적으로 진입하 게 된다. 이에 비해 한국 예술계에서는 아트퀼트를 대하는 인식과 비평이 크게 진전되 어 있지 못하며, 이는 모더니즘적 시각과 관행이 여전히 잔존하고 있기 때문인 것으로 간주된다. 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해서는 미국에서처럼 여러 차원에 서의 노력과 총체적인 축적이 필요해보이지만, 우선 학계 차원에서 무엇보다 시 급한 것은 퀼트/아트퀼트에 관한 역사적 점검 및 담론 형성으로 보인다. 한편, 퀼트계 안에서조차 전통 퀼트를 공예의 일부로 범주화하여 아트퀼트와 차별화하 려는 시각 역시 재고해 봐야 할 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 퀼트는 이미 긴 역사 속에서 여성의 삶과 그 예술적 실천의 결과로서 면면히 이어져왔고 오늘날의 확 대된 예술 개념 속에서 더욱 다양한 의미를 띠며 실천되어오고 있음을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 따라서 퀼트, 전통 퀼트, 아트퀼트는 모두 아트퀼트 즉 예술로 인식 되어야하며, 퀼트야말로 바로 삶을 통한 예술의 실천을 강조하는 동시대적 미학 에 크게 이바지할 수 있는 매체라 할 것이다. 주제어 : 퀼트, 미국 퀼트, 아트퀼트, 전통 퀼트, 모더니즘, 포스트모더니즘, 페미니즘

자수기법을 활용한 퀼트 패션디자인 : 작품제작을 중심으로

현대의 퀼트는 오래 전 여인들의 손끝에서 시작된 조각보에서부터 오늘날 다양한 소재와 화려한 기법의 아트적인 작품에 이르기까지 무궁무진한 발전을 거듭해 오고 있다. 생활에 필요한 소품은 물론 의상 디자인이나 텍스타일 디자인 등에도 퀼트 기법을 응용하고 있는 것을 볼 수 있고, 생활의 여유가 생기고 좋은 천을 쉽게 구할 수 있는 지금은 단지 절약정신만이 아닌 예술적 가치를 지닌 작품으로 손색이 없는 분야이다. 자수는 자연형태를 바탕으로 하여 자수의 다양한 기법으로 섬세하고 우아한 아름다움을 표현하는 독특한 예술이다. 이러한 자수의 장점을 앞으로도 발전 가능성이 많은 섬유 패션 중 하나인 퀼트 패션에 접목을 시도해 봄으로써 패션문화산업에 있어서 활용도를 높이고 지금까지의 퀼트 작품과는 차별화 되고 전통의 미가 내재된 현대적 감각의 개성적인 퀼트 패션디자인이 되도록 하는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이론적 배경으로 퀼트의 역사와 종류, 자수의 기법을 문헌을 통해 알아보고 현대 패션에 나타난 퀼트 의상을 동아 TV의 2007 s/s Paris Milan New York Collection과 제1회 퀼트 콘테스트 작품집, 제2회 퀼트 페스티벌 콘테스트 출품작, 그리고 인터넷을 통해 살펴보았으며, 이론적 배경을 토대로 퀼트 기법과 자수 기법을 활용한 의상 2점 및 벽걸이 2점, 러너와 쿠션 2점, 가방 2점을 제작하였고 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 퀼팅에서 홈질 대신 자수기법인 선수와 마디수를 수놓음으로써 현대적인 이미지와 함께 누빔 효과와 장식효과를 동시에 볼 수 있었다. 둘째, 퀼트의 수공예적이고 기하학적인 이미지에 지금껏 서양자수의 스티치로 약간의 부수적인 용도로만 쓰여 졌던 자수디자인을 기계자수와 수자수의 여러 가지 기법을 활용하여 작품에 좀 더 깊이 있게 들어감으로써 고급스러우면서 부드럽고 아름다운 이미지의 퀼트 작품을 재구성 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 의상 작품에 기계자수를 수직으로 수놓아 길이가 길어 보이는 효과를 가져다주었으며, 면을 소재로 한 단순하고 소박한 분위기를 보완해주면서 고급스러움과 화사함, 세련된 이미지의 퀼트 작품을 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 수자수의 기법을 활용한 수를 놓은 액세서리를 만들어 조끼와 백에 부착시켜 작품을 완성하는 등 퀼트의 기존 방식에 여러 가지 색상과 표현이 가능한 자수를 응용 접목시킴으로써 새로운 형태의 독특한 입체감과 질감표현을 나타낼 수 있었으며 .다양한 디자인 창출의 가능성을 엿볼 수 있었다. 본 연구로 패션산업에서의 자수 활용 범위 확대의 기대와 끊임없이 새로운 것을 요구하는 현대인들의 기호에 발맞추어 발전적이고 독창적인 퀼트 패션디자인을 구사할 수 있는 방향을 제시해 본다. Quilts have evolved a long way from patchwork wrapping cloths handmade by women in old days to today's artistic works involving diverse materials and gorgeous techniques. Their infinite potential for growth has well manifested itself in the process. Quilting techniques are currently applied to clothes and textile designs as well as everyday props. With more wealth, people now can afford to purchase high quality fabrics easily. Therefore, quilts are no longer made to save some money but proudly deserve a title of artistic works. Embroidery is a unique form of art to express sophisticated and elegant beauty in various techniques based on the shapes found in nature. Intending to introduce the advantages of embroidery into the fashion and culture industry and to combine it with quilt fashion that's one of the fabrics fashion areas with huge growth potential, the investigator set out to create distinctive quilt fashion designs that would be differentiated from the existing ones and possess both traditional beauty and contemporary senses. The study started with a review of the theoretical background including the history and kinds of quilts and the embroidery techniques through literature research. The quilt dresses in modern fashion were examined through collections and information on the Internet. Using the quilting and embroidery techniques based on the theoretical background, the investigator made two pieces of clothing, two tapestries, two runners, and two bags. The results were as follows: First, the two embroidery techniques, were employed instead of broad stitching for quilting and created modern images and quilting and decorative effects at the same time. Second, the embroidery designs, which had played a small auxiliary role as a stitching technique in the Western embroidery, made their way more strongly into the handcraft and geometric images of quilts based on the many different machine- and hand-embroidered techniques. As a result, designs of high class, refined, soft, and beautiful images were reconstructed. Third, the integration between the various quilting techniques and embroidery resulted in a unique sense of three-dimensional effect and texture expressions in new formats. And fourth, incorporating embroidery capable of diverse colors and expressions into the existing quilting methods worked to supplement rather a simple and plain atmosphere and open the window to more diverse designs. The results of the study will hopefully contribute to the expansion of embroidery's applications in the fashion industry and suggest some directions in creating evolving and original quilt fashion designs that can reflect the taste of today's consumers who constantly require something new.

구스타프 클림트(Gustav Klimt)의 작품을 응용한 의상디자인 연구 : 퀼트(Quilt)기법을 중심으로

옷은 인간의 삶의 기본조건인 의·식·주를 논하는 가운데서도 가장 먼저 거론되듯 일상생활과 뗄 수 없는 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있다. 그러나 옷은 회화나 조각 등 조형예술분야와 마찬가지로 선이나 면 그리고 색이라는 조형적 요소를 바탕으로 한다. 이러한 연유로 많은 디자이너들이 옷의 표현에 많은 노력을 기울여왔으며 새로운 세대들의 옷은 아름다움을 추구하는 대상이며 동시에 그 아름다움을 실험하는 장으로 예술적 인식이 더욱 강조되고 있다. 예술작품중에서도 회화는 복식의 중요한 모티브로서 특히 색과 형을 중심으로 한 조형이란 점에서 의상과 유사점이 많기 때문에 많은 패션 디자이너들이 회화작품의 특성을 도입, 응용하여 독특하고 창의적인 디자인 개발의 원동력으로 활용해 왔다. 이에 본 연구는 아르누보(Art Nouveau)운동에 있어서 주도적 역할을 하였고, 여성적이며 장식적인 특성을 가지고 있는 구스타프 클림트(Gustav Klimt)의 예술세계를 고찰하고 퀼트(Quilt)기법을 응용하여 작품을 제작하였다. 특히 유기적인 문양과 상징적 문양, 기하학적 문양 등 장식적 특성을 의상에 도입하여 유기적 조형미와 환상적이면서 관능적인 이미지를 입체적으로 강조하고자 했다. 연구방법으로는 문헌고찰을 통한 이론적 연구와 다양한 퀼트기법을 실험하여 작품을 제작하였다. 이론적 배경으로는 아르누보양식과 대표적 작가인 구스타프 클림트에 대해 살펴보았으며 회화와 복식과의 관계를 알아보았다. 또한 퀼트기법의 개념 및 역사, 종류와 특성, 제작기법에 대해 연구하고 실험하였으며 퀼트기법이 의상디자인에 도입된 사례에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 클림트 회화의 문양을 재구성하여 퀼트기법을 응용해 복식에 도입한 작품 총 8점을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아르누보 양식과 그에 주도적 역할을 한 구스타프 클림트에 대해 고찰한 결과 유기적 문양과 상징적 문양, 기하학적 문양은 의상디자인의 모티브로 적합하였다. 둘째, 구스타프 클림트의 작품을 모티브로 해서 재구성된 문양은 퀼트기법으로 응용되기에 조형미와 장식성이 뛰어나고 조각으로 이어지므로 다양한 문양과 풍부한 색상을 표현하기에 적합하였다. 셋째, 퀼트기법의 전통적인 기법과 새로운 기법을 사용하였으며 퀼팅을 함으로써 부조적인 입체감을 나타내는데 효과적이었다. 넷째, 퀼트기법을 응용한 의상의 예술적 표현증대와 조형성을 통해 복식도 조형 요소로 구성되는 조형예술의 한 분야임을 확인시켜주었다. 앞으로 클림트의 독특한 화면구성방식과 화려한 색채, 장식적 문양이 더 다양하게 복식디자인에 표현되어지길 바라며 회화와 복식과의 접목을 통한 예술의 실용화 및 의상의 예술화가 끊임없이 이루어졌으면 한다. Clothing is often mentioned first among the three basic elements of human life- food clothing and shelter. Clothing is closely related to daily life, and only its function and symbolic meaning are often emphasized, not its decorative aspects. However, clothing is based on modeling elements such as line, plane and color as other modeling arts such as painting and sculpting. For this reason, a lot of designers have been making great efforts for expressing clothing. Clothing for the younger generation is the subject of searching beauty and it is considered as part of art. As painting is similar to clothing in that it is based on color and form, and a lot of fashion designers have been using the characteristics of painting works for developing creative design Hereby, this study examines the art world of Gustav Klimt, who played a leading role in the Art Nouveau movement and is famous for his feminine and decorative characteristics, and applies quilt skills. Especially, it introduces art nouveau patterns and symbolic modes to clothing to emphasize the organic beauty ann fantastic and sensual image. As a study method, I did a theoretical studies through literature, and created a work by making various quilt skills as a sample. The theoretical background includes the Art Nouveau mode and its representative artist Gustav Klimt, and it also looks at relation between painting and clothing. Also, I examines and experimented the concept, history, characteristics and creating methods of quilt, and looked at case of applying quilt skills to clothing. Based on this, I created total eight works by restructuring Gustav Klimt's painting modes and applying quilt skills. The following are the results of this study. First, in results of examining the Art Nouveau mode and its leader Gustav Klimt, its organic modes and geometrical modes are suitable for clothing. Second, the restructured modes by the motives of Gustav Klimt made a decorative and delicate work. Third, I used both traditional and new skills of quilt, and hand made quilting was effective in expressing a cubic effect. Fourth, the application of quilt to clothing and the expansion of artistic expression ensured that clothing is part of modeling art.

Modern art conceptually categorizes artists such as sculptors or ancient artists according to their individuality or as genre of art is fallen into pieces. So it is getting harder to understand or analyse their work of art. Artists have freedom and uncertainty on meaning of art because of its variety or individuality of expression. Modern artists do not have clear and general routes to be followed no longer. They do not have any direction toward art, which brought new freedom to them. That is, modern art is open unlike traditional art. K. Harris asked “What is artistic ?” in his “Modern Art - Its Philosophical Meaning.” There are a variety of answers to it, which indicates that meaning of art is uncertain. This study is to compare western quilt with Korean quilt and analyse them based on uncertain environment of modern art and divided concepts of art genre. It also discusses examples that use cloth for artistic work and identifies needlework as art. Cloth has been indispensable for men since ancient times, but it has not been accepted as a material or technique of formative art. It has been just used for daily purposes and today it has established its own area as a decorative and patterned visual art. Needlework as a pastime of women was a means to express sorrow of Korean mothers and to create artistic and aesthetic value. This study discusses that cloth can be used for abstract style to express one's own internal style rather than simple decorative expression with colors and patterns. For artistic expression, daily materials can be remodelled as unique and outstanding artistic work beyond being mediocre. This study has a meaning in reflecting the past process of work and presenting a future direction. Finally, this study aims at identifying what problems there are in doing this kind of artistic work and which part should be further developed.

미국 현대 퀼트 기법을 응용한 조형적 표현 연구 : 작품 제작을 중심으로

The art of modem fiber which was affected by thoughts of current art and sudden industrial developments has pursued the pure world of formative arts, showing the unlimited diversity in expressive technique. It established new notions of value escaping from the existing ones called plane art by approaching the multiplicity from the plane to the embossed carving and three-dimension. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the embossed carving effect of expression and the quality, using various materials in a Quilt work. This study is on the American modern quilt since 1970s. It examines the background and process of the origin of modem quilt through major exhibitions in 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. It investigates new expression techniques using the various materials including collage, metal, felt, button and paper for the original works and the new expression means such as sewing machine, computer, silk screen, air brush and photograph transcription. Also this research compared the works of representative quilt artists of contemporary America like Nancy Crow, Michael James, Jean Ray Laury, Susan Shin and James Acord, Yvonne Porcella, Therese May, M. Joan Lintault, Pamela Studstill, Judith Lazelere according to the times and examines and analyzes the characteristics of each artist, the world and developmental process of their works. The quilt was recognized as a genre of art in 1970s, but it stressed the basic pattern. The quilt in 1980s neglected gradually the outline of the basic pattern and was combined with other genres, but necessarily used fiber materials and sewing technique. In 1990s, there were a lot of changes in making quilt works. That is, the works which don't employ fiber and sewing were recognized as quilt works and cubic and liberal works by division were created in visual side. As a result of this study, the research has interest in such materials as metal, synthetic fiber, button, label and copper line. The researcher tries to express the sense of material, relief effect and formative features of quilt works with velvet, lace, polyester, vinyl and polyurethane cloths under the influence of free surface composition shown in the modern quilt of 1990s. Consequently, it obtains a great effect to give a strong impression as well as the relief effect with easy use of metal materials as aluminum. So it is considered that it will be settled as indispensable material in the 21 st century by making trial works continuously. Materials like button, label and bead have the cubin effect which gives tedious surface compsotion a rhythm and interest. It accompanies a difficulty in sewing because of using synthetic fiber instead of cotton and wool, but the formative features can be expressed by the texture of each cloth. Future fiber art will be dependent on how a new material is used. Therefore, when the research, growth and experiment of materials are continued, the formative modern quilt will be developed more.

심상을 형상화한 아트퀼트에 대한 연구 - 작품제작을 중심으로 - Study on the Art Quilt of Visualization of Imagery - Mainly on Production of Works of Art - 조형디자인학과 하 문 재 지도교수 왕 경 애 예술작품의 본질은 작가의 심상을 표현하는 것과 직결되어 있으며, 많은 경우에 예술 창작은 이성적인 논리보다 감성을 더 따르게 된다. 따라서 작가는 마음으로 생각하고 생활 체험을 통해 얻은 것을 각자의 방식에 따라 내적인 해석을 함으로써 작품을 창작하게 되는 것이라 볼 수 있다. 심상은 예술의 창작에 있어 빼놓을 수 없는 필요불가결한 요소인 것이다. 하지만 오늘날의 섬유예술은 현대사회의 느슨한 환경, 예술의 대중화, 평면화, 상품화 등의 요소들로 인해 재료의 화려함과 물질화, 예술의 상업적 가치에만 치중하게 됨으로써 상대적으로 예술작품에 내포된 정신과 감정적인 면에 있어 뒤떨어지는 현상을 보이기도 한다. 본 논문은 현대사회에서 상대적으로 뒤떨어져있는 섬유예술의 감성적인 면과 예술정신을 되살리고자, 예술의 창작에 있어 빼놓을 수 없는 심상을 형상화하여 아트퀼트를 주제로 삼아 연구하였다. 심상에 대한 다양한 이론적 분석을 토대로 실제 창작에 있어서 자유로운 감정적 표현을 다양한 기법과 소재를 통해 표현함으로써 심상을 형상화한 아트퀼트에 대한 새로운 가능성을 제시하는 것에 본 연구의 목적을 두었으며 그 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 심상은 우리들에게 예술작품의 명확한 방향성과 참고 근거를 제공한다. 둘째, 예술작품의 창작은 마음을 표현하고 전달하기 위함이며, 작품은 그 표현매체로써 결국 마음 속의 형상을 그려내야 한다. 셋째, 아트퀼트의 여러 기법들과 당양한 섬유재료를 효과적으로 활용하면 타 매체를 사용했을 때와는 다른 효과를 내며 이는 섬유재료를 사용했을때의 고유함을 가진 톡특한 표현을 할 수 있다. 작가가 심상을 통해 의도하고자 하는 것을 효과적으로 표현하는 것이 가능하다. 이러한 결론들은 현대 아트 퀼트의 다양한 기법과 소재들은 섬유예술에 있어서의 심상의 추상적 표현에 대한 발전과 그 독창성에 대한 새로운 가능성을 모색하는 하나의 작은 시발점이 될 수 있음을 시사하고 있다. 나아가 본 연구가 본인의 개인적 예술작업 뿐만 아니라 섬유예술에 있어서의 새로운 발전 가능성의 그 밑거름이 될 수 있기를 바라는 바이다. 주요어 : 심상, 형상, 아트퀼트, 현대섬유예술, 감성.

사찰 건축의 창살 문양을 응용한 액세서리 디자인 연구 : 퀼트 기법을 중심으로

오늘날 소비자들은 대량생산제품에 대해 싫증을 느끼고 있다. 다양한 취향과 개성을 지닌 소비자들에게 소량생산 수공예 제품을 제시함으로서 대량생산제품에서 느낄 수 없는 인간의 감성을 자극하고 인간의 손맛이 느껴지는 수공예제품을 통해서 소비 시장의 확대가 필요하다. 앞으로는 대량생산라인에서 생산되는 시스템에서 발전해 새로운 시스템이 등장하게 될 것이며 판매 방법이나 공간도 소비자의 다양하고 개성적인 욕구에 맞춰 변화되고 세분화, 전문화되리라 기대된다. 따라서 수공예 개념을 확장시키고 수공예 분야와 다른 다양한 분야와의 연계성을 분석하는 다각적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 보고 사찰 건축에 나타난 창살 문양을 퀼트와 접목시켜 디자인에 응용하고자 하였다. 패션에서 옷은 패션의 기본이 되는 요소이며 패션액세서리는 패션을 완성시키는 요소라고 할 수 있다. 패션액세서리는 현재에도 다양하게 응용되고 패션을 마무리하며 완성시키는 요소로 인식되어 폭넓게 활용되고 있으며 앞으로도 역시 패션에 있어서 중요한 요소로 발전할 것으로 보고 퀼트기법을 응용해 패션액세서리 중에서 가방, 벨트, 모자, 숄, 넥타이를 선택해 수공예 제품을 제작하였다. 퀼트 분야가 퀼트 제품으로서의 한정된 범위에서 벗어나 여러 분야와 다양하게 접목되기를 기대하며 패션, 건축, 미술, 디자인 등 다른 분야와 다양하게 연계되어 폭넓게 응응되어 발전하고 다양한 수공예 제품으로 개발이 이루어지고 퀼트제품의 시장 확대가 이루어지기를 기대하며, 이 논문을 통하여 하나의 방법론을 제시하고자 하였다. As consumers in these days are getting disgusted with mass producedproducts. It is necessary to extend consumer markets through introduction of small lots produced handicraft products which stimulate sensitivity of human being and show workmanship of human to the consumers who possess various taste and individuality. in future, it is expected that a new system will appear developed from present mass production system and the sales methodology and space will be changed, subdivided and specialized to meet with diversified and individual demands of consumers. Therefore, with the view toward extending concept of handicraft and potential necessity of diversified study to analyze connective relationship between the field of handicraft and other various fields, this study tried to apply lattice pattern of temple architecture to the design based on Quilt Techniques. In the world of fashion, clothes are an element which is the basis of fashion, and fashion accessory is considered as the element which completes fashion. Fashion accessories are presently widely applied and utilized in various ways realized as the element which finishes and completes fashion and fashion accessories will be developed as important element in future also. In view of above, bag, belt, hat, shawl and necktie have been selected from various types of fashion accessories and handicraft products have been produced using Quilt Techniques. Aim of this thesis is to present a methodology through the study with strong expectation that the field of Quilt is linked with other various fields coming out from limited scope of Quilt product, Quilt technique is widely applied and developed liked with fields of fashion, architecture, arts and design etc., various handicraft products are developed based on Quilt technique and lastly extension of Quilt products market is achieved.
