The purpose of this research is to develop the coaching program in which children can increase the interest and self-efficacy about mathematics by combining mathematical communication learning with the 6 levels of Active coaching conversation by The Korea Coaching Association. To achieve the purpose, the detailed subjects are :
1) What kinds of elements are composed of in mathematical communication learning coaching program for elementary students?
2) What kinds of contents are composed of in each class of mathematical communication learning coaching program for elementary students?
First, to progress this study, the preceded studies and documents about the interest and self-efficacy about mathematics were analyzed, which are dependent variables which will be improved by conducting this study with learning coaching program and mathematical communication learning. Consequently, in theoretical aspects, it is proved that The development of mathematical communication learning coaching program is required for children who have difficulty studying mathematics. And on the basis of the result of the study, the concept, characteristics and components of mathematical communication learning were drawn. After that, the purpose and teaching-learning method of mathematical communication learning coaching program were selected, major activity contents were made up, and instructional materials were developed. Also, with correction and supplementation by the discussion with learning coaching professionals and after-school class instructors, mathematical communication learning coaching program for elementary students was developed.
The following is the conclusion of the subject.
Mathematical communication learning coaching program for children – in the first semester of 6th grade - consists of 30 session.
The content of the program is composed of contents of each chapter of mathematics for the 6th grade student in the elementary school. Each chapter is divided with 5 session.
Each session is made up appling the 6 levels of Active coaching conversation by The Korea Coaching Association. Mathematical communication learning was applied in accordance with detailed contents required in each level.
It is expected that, developed by this study, mathematical communication learning coaching program will increase the interest and self-efficacy about mathematics of elementary students and the effects of learning mathematics. Futhermore, it is expected that it will be used as the basic data for mathematics-learning coaching research.
