지적장애인 자녀의 결혼에 대한 부모의 태도 분석 = Investigating the factors that predict the parents` attitudes towards the marriage of children with intellectual disabilities

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influential factors that predict the parents` attitudes towards the marriage of children with intellectual disabilities. A survey was conducted with 500 parents who have above 19 year old children with intellectual disabilities working at the facilities for vocational rehabilitation in Seoul and Kyunggi-do province. Individual, family, and social support factors were regressed on the parents` attitudes towards their children`s marriage. It was found that the participants` positive attitudes were associated with age, income, needs for marriage, instrumental daily life activities of their children with intellectual disabilities, and their own attitudes towards their children`s sexuality. Consequently, this study suggests the marriage of people with intellectual disabilities has to be regarded as one of the life tasks as with people without disabilities. For making the marriage of people with intellectual disabilities more possible, healthy sex education for people with intellectual disabilities as well as their parents, substantial income support to people with intellectual disabilities, services for increasing the marriage rate of people with intellectual disabilities, and keeping on their marriage life are needed.
