The purpose of the study is to suggest an educational direction and methods that could help the young cultivate the quality of a global citizen. For basic information for the study, a survey using a questionnaire was implemented on elementary and secondary school students selected in the Gyeonggigi-do provincial area. The survey was intended to measure the levels of understanding and accepting multiculturalsism among the students The survey results show that the students generally keep positive and approving attitudes toward multiculturalism except for some specified areas. They responded with negative or even exclusive state of mind to some questions concerning such specific areas as his or her chances of getting international marriages. This gives rise to a necessity of a multicultural education more deepened and comprehensive than the existing one for the young Koreans. The needed multicultural education should be directed to help the young attain better understanding of issues related to multiracial, multiethnic and multicultural world society over the boundaries of the nations. It is what is called multicultural civic education which is meant to foster the quality of a global citizen that is, among others, the ability to adapt to rapidly changing world society and the strengthened competitiveness in the world arena. We are now considered to take charge of the multicucltural education in this direction.
