People transfer a lot of informations through their affective channel. In computer-mediated communication or computing environment, however, they cannot utilize their affective informations. The limitation of affective channel in computing induce more discomforts on mobile computing situation since the user has restricted input device as well as additional gadgets are required to measure his or her biosignals. To overcome this limitation and to recognize user''s affective status, body movements are available. This study focused on hand movements, which are easily applicable when handling mobile devices. To analyze hand movements, three dimensions -direction, time, weight- were found through reconstructing sub-properties of Laman Movement Analysis. Direction dimension has five levels(horizontal, vertical, sagittal, circular, shaking) while time(sudden, sustained) and weight(light, strong) dimension have two levels each. By factorial design with three dimensions, twenty movement were videotaped. Participants rated a list of fifty korean affective words on each twenty movements. The results were studied by nonlinear principal component analysis. The results suggested that time and weight dimensions are highly related with arousal level dimension of Russell''s circumplex model of affect. Strong and sudden movements reminded highly aroused affects, while light and sustained movements reminded the opposite affects. Then direction dimension was related to the kinds of affective. Linear movements like horizontal, vertical and sagittal direction were closely located with highly aroused negative affects. Circular movements was located nearby fun and delight on the graph and shaking movements was located close to anxiety and impatience.$$a$$a
