The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of play based learning strategy program on improving study habit and academic self-efficacy of elementary school students in low-income family.
Following the research purpose, two research questions were defined as follows;
First, does the play based learning strategy program have effect on improving the study habit of elementary school students in low-income family?
Second, does the play based learning strategy program have effect on improving the academic self-efficacy of elementary school students in low-income family?
To examine the research questions, 36 elementary students from after-school academies(2 organizations) and community child center(one organization) were selected as subjects; 20 students from one after-school academy were included in experimental group, and 16 students from the rest of organizations were randomly assigned in control group. The program consisted of 12 sessions, and each session takes 40 minutes. The result were statistically analyzed through ANCOVA.
The results of this study were as follows.
First, this study has shown that the experimental groups which were performed by play based learning strategy programs have been significantly improved in the study habit. The cause of this results were the decreasing of average of experimental group otherwise the average of control group was maintained.
Second, this study has shown that the experimental groups which were performed by play based learning strategy programs didn't showed statistically significant difference in the academic self-efficacy. But It has improved the self regulatory efficacy, which is a sublevel factor of academic self efficacy.
Based on the results and discussion, the conclusion of this study were as follows.
This study shows the play based learning strategy program has effect on the study habit and self regulatory efficacy of elementary school students in low-income family. Play based learning strategy program prevented decreasing, study habit and had an effect on improving the self-regulatory efficacy of elementary school students in low-income family.
It means that the play based learning strategy program has worthy of educational method in developing of study interests and learning strategy of elementary school students in low-income family.
