프레이트 포워더의 항공사 선정요인과 대안선정에 관한 연구 = A Study on Freight Forwarder's Airline Selection Factors and Alternatives Selection

Purpose : As the competition between airlines is overheated, the need to provide differentiated and high-quality air services that meet the needs of customers is emerging as a very important factor.


Research design, data and methodology : This study derives the importance and priority of freight forwarders' airline selection factors for airline and compares the competitiveness between national airlines and foreign national airlines by employing AHP with the questionnaires for freight forwarders. For this study, the variables were selected four factors as higher level criteria such as transport, cost, customer service, and reputation/professional factors and 16 factors as sub-level criteria in previous literature studies.


Results : This study shows that the importance of factors such as corporate image and supporting function is higher than other factors, whereas freight rates and transportation services rank high in most of the existing studies. As a result of analyzing the selection alternatives between national airlines and foreign national airlines, it was found that the remaining three factors, excluding the cost factor, showed an average advantage of about 70%, while the foreign airline had only a competitive advantage of 70% in costs.


Conclusions : The result of this study showed importance of reputation, expertise, and additional service factors, which are non-essential and additional factors, were found to be more important in selecting a transportation company than transportation and cost, which are the essential factors of air transportation. The reason for this can be inferred that other factors were given more importance because the difference in cost factors was not high, or that factors other than cost were given more importance in airline selection under the high level of fares due to COVID-19.
