The chigger mite Leptotrombidium sialkotense is one of the 6 main vectors of scrub typhus in China. Before present study, L. sialkotense was found in some parts of Hunan province, China with a narrow geographical distribution. During field investigation 2016-2017, we found L. sialkotense in Jingha, southern Yunnan, China. Of 15 small mammal host species, L. sialkotense were collected from 6 species of the hosts. Rattus brunneusculus was a dominant host of L. sialkotense, from which 98.3% of the mites were collected. The chigger mite showed a relatively high infestation prevalence (PM=11.7%) and mean abundance (MA=0.5) in comparison with the rest 5 host species. These results reveal a certain host specificity of L. sialkotense to a rat R. brunneusculus. The mite L. sialkotense showed an aggregated distribution on the host (P<0.05). A positive correlation observed between L. sialkotense and the body length of hosts. There was a positive interspecific association between L. sialkotense and 2 other dominant vectors, L. deliense and L. scutellare.

Huang, Guo-Liang,Guo, Hong-Qiang,Yang, Feng,Liu, Ou-Fei,Li, Bin-Bin,Liu, Xing-Yan,Lu, Yan,He, Zhi-Wei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3
Objective: Identifying cancer-related genes or proteins is critical in preventing and controlling colorectal cancer (CRC). This study was to investigate the clinicopathological and prognostic value of activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1) in CRC. Methods: Protein expression of ATF1 was detected using immunohistochemistry in 66 CRC tissues. Clinicopathological association of ATF1 in CRC was analyzed with chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. The prognostic value of ATF1 in CRC is estimated using the Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression models. Results: The ATF1 protein expression was significantly lower in tumor tissues than corresponding normal tissues (51.5% and 71.1%, respectively, P = 0.038). No correlation was found between ATF1 expression and the investigated clinicopathological parameters, including gender, age, depth of invasion, lymph node status, metastasis, pathological stage, vascular tumoral emboli, peritumoral deposits, chemotherapy and original tumor site (all with P > 0.05). Patients with higher ATF1 expression levels have a significantly higher survival rate than that with lower expression (P = 0.026 for overall survival, P = 0.008 for progress free survival). Multivariate Cox regression model revealed that ATF1 expression and depth of invasion were the predictors of the overall survival (P = 0.008 and P = 0.028) and progress free survival (P = 0.002 and P = 0.005) in CRC. Conclusions: Higher ATF1 expression is a predictor of a favorable outcome for the overall survival and progress free survival in CRC.

The silkworm fat body is the site of many intermediary metabolic processes, and a source of sustenance forgrowth throughout the life cycle. Fat body proteins are responsible for storing nutrients, providing energy, andregulating hormones, and they have been identified using proteomic approaches. However, detailed differentialexpression of sex-related fat body proteins has not previously been evaluated. In the present study, we characterizedthe differential expression of sex-related fat body proteins, by using 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis(2-DE) followed bymass spectrometry identification and bioinformaticsmethods. We extracted the fat body proteinsfrom 5-day-old fifth instar larvae (L5), 10-day-old fifth instar larvae (corresponding to the end of spinning[LE]), and 0-day-old pupae (P0) of the multivoltine silkworm variety “Da Zao”. We confirmed the presence of 11important sex-specific expression proteins and 14 stage-specific expression proteins. We accurately identified 13of these specific expression proteins, including actin, calponin-like protein, 75 kDa subunit NADH, receptor foractivated protein kinase C from Bombyx mori (BmRACK), IMP (inosine monophosphate) cyclohydrolase, tropomyosin1, β-tubulin, hypothetical protein, antichymotrypsin precursor, and 30 K protein precursor. We showedthat BmRACK was differentially expressed betweenmale and female silkworms.Wediscuss the biological roles ofthe specific expression proteins during the larval–pupal developmental stages.
Modulation of lung cancer growth arrest and apoptosis by Phellinus Linteus
Guo, Jinjin,Zhu, Tongbo,Collins, LeaAnn,Xiao, Zhi-Xiong J.,Kim, Sung-Hoon,Chen, Chang-Yan Alan R. Liss, Inc 2007 Molecular carcinogenesis Vol.46 No.2
<P>The Phellinus Linteus (PL) mushroom has been shown to possess anti-tumor properties. Through influencing lymphocytes, PL indirectly augments the host's immune system against cancer cells. PL has also been demonstrated to reduce tumor proliferation. However, the mechanisms of PL against malignant growth have not yet been fully explored. In this study, we report that PL mediates the following two activities in mouse and human lung cancer cells: cell-cycle arrest at a low concentration of PL and apoptosis in response to a high dose of PL. After exposure to a low dose of PL, G1 growth arrest occurred in the lung cancer cells. The negative growth control mediated by PL is evidenced by the decrease of the activities of cyclin-dependent kinases CDK2, 4, and 6. In contrast, at high doses, PL-induced lung cancer cells to undergo apoptosis in a dose-dependent fashion. This was evidenced by DNA fragmentation, caspase activation, and loss of clonogenecity in the lung cancer cells, all of which were lacking in the lung cancer cells treated with low concentrations of PL as well as the normal mouse lung epithelial cells exposed to either low or high concentrations of PL. The addition of the caspase inhibitor Z-VADfmk completely suppressed PL-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, the low dose of PL was able to synergize with doxorubicin to induce apoptosis in the lung cancer cells. Thus, our findings suggest that PL regulates two responses in the lung cancer cells: cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis. © 2006 Wiley-Liss, Inc.</P>
Fretting Fatigue Behavior of Ti–6Al–4V and Ti–10V–2Fe–3Al Alloys
Zhi Yan Li,Xiao Long Liu,Guo Qing Wu,Zheng Huang 대한금속·재료학회 2019 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.25 No.1
The effect of fretting on fatigue performance of different microstructures for titanium alloy was studied using a high-frequencypush–pull fatigue testing machine. Both plain and fretting fatigue curves were obtained for comparative analysis of the frettingeffect on fatigue performance of the different titanium alloy. The result shows that the strength, plain fatigue of Ti6Al4Vtitanium is lower than those of Ti1023 titanium. But the fretting fatigue of Ti6Al4V titanium is higher under each contactstress. The fatigue source depth of Ti1023 alloy is greater than Ti6Al4V alloy. Hardening of Ti1023 alloy is more seriousafter fretting. The wear mechanism of two titanium alloys is different, Ti1023 titanium alloy is more sensitive to fretting wear.

Lead-free (K_0.17Na_(0.83-x)Li_x)NbO_3 piezoceramics were synthesized by conventional solid state sintering and the effect of Li on the microstructure and electrical properties was investigated. The experimental results show that 4 mol% Li doping facilitates the grain growth and increases the density of the ceramics. The measurement of dielectric properties reveals that the orthorhombic-tetragonal (T_(O-T)) and tetragonalcubic (T_C) phase transition temperatures change linearly with increasing Li content and the sample with x = 0.06 exhibits the highest T_C of 429 ℃ and lowest T_(O-T) of 181 ℃. Because of the wide apart of T_(O-T) from room temperature, no polymorphic phase structures were obtained and the piezoelectric strain coeffi-cient d_33 and piezoelectric coupling constant k_p varied between low values of 57, 61 pC/N and 0.18, 0.24,respectively with less than 6 mol% Li doping.

Chigger mites are the vector of scrub typhus. This study estimates the infestation status and ecological characteristics of chiggers on the chestnut white-bellied rat Niviventer fulvescens in Southwest China between 2001 and 2019. Chiggers were identified under the microscope, and infestation indices were calculated. The Preston’s log-normal model was used to fit the curve of species abundance distribution. A total of 6,557 chiggers were collected in 136 of 342 N. fulvescens rats, showing high overall infestation indices (prevalence=39.8%, mean abundance=19.2, mean intensity=48.2) and high species diversity (S =100, H’=3.0). Leptotrombidium cangjiangense, Neotrombicula japonica, and Ascoschoengastia sifanga were the three dominant chigger species (constituent ratio=42.9%; 2,736/6,384) and exhibited an aggregated distribution among different rat individuals. We identified 100 chigger species, with 3 of them (Leptotrombidium scutellare, Leptotrombidium wenense, and Leptotrombidium deliense) as the main vectors of scrub typhus in China and nine species as potential vectors of this disease. Disease vector occurrence on N. fulvescens may increase the risk of spreading scrub typhus from rats to humans. Chigger infestation on N. fulvescens varied significantly in different environments. The species abundance distribution showed a log-normal distribution pattern. The estimated number of chigger species on N. fulvescens was 126 species.

Zhi-feng Shu,Xian-kang Dou,Hai-yun Xia,Dong-song Sun,Yan Han,Hyunki Cha,김덕현,Guo-cheng Wang,백성훈,Dong-dong Hu 한국광학회 2012 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.16 No.2
A mobile Rayleigh Doppler wind LIDAR at an eye-safe wavelength of 355 nm incorporating double-edge technique with triple-channel Fabry-Perot etalon is developed for wind measurement from 5to 40km. The structure of this LIDAR system is described. An intercomparsion experiment with rawinsonde is made, showing good agreement with expected measurement accuracy. A continuous observation of stratosphere wind field for several days with temporal resolution of 15 min and spatial resolution of 200 m from 5 to 40 km is presented, demonstrating the stability and robustness of the LIDAR. A stratospheric quasi-zero wind layer can be found at around 20 km with a direction change from east to west evident in the continuous observation.
