Experimental assessment of the effect of frozen fringe thickness on frost heave

A frozen fringe plays a key role in frost heave development in soils. Previous studies have focused on the physical and mechanical properties of the frozen fringe, such as overall hydraulic conductivity, water content and pore pressure. It has been proposed that the thickness of the frozen fringe controls frost heave behavior, but this effect has not been thoroughly evaluated. This study used a temperature-controllable cell to investigate the impact of frozen fringe thickness on the characteristics of frost heave. A series of laboratory tests was performed with various temperature boundary conditions and specimen heights, revealing that: (1) the amount and rate of development of frost heave are dependent on the frozen fringe thickness; (2) the thicker the frozen fringe, the thinner the resulting ice lens; and (3) care must be taken when using the frost heave ratio to characterize frost heave and evaluate frost susceptibility because the frost heave ratio is not a normalized factor but a specimen height-dependent factor.
파라미터 변화에 따른 석션버켓기초에 발생하는 세굴현상에 대한 수치해석 연구

In the case of fixed offshore wind turbines, scouring phenomena have been reported around sub-structures as a result of currents, which seriously damage the structural stability. A parametric study of the various sub-structures of a fixed offshore wind turbine was performed to investigate their effects on the scouring phenomena. For a suction bucket foundation and monopile, the effects of the stick-up heights and water depth were studied, respectively. The open source libraries, called OpenFOAM, were used to simulate a violent flow around a foundation. The numerical methods were selected based on a two-dimensional analysis of a suction bucket. Based on the results for various stick-up heights, a larger scouring region was observed with an increase in the stick-up height because of the down-wash flow around a foundation. Based on the results for various monopile water depths, the water depth had an insignificant effect on the scouring.
해상풍력발전기 하부구조물의 세굴현상에 관한 파라미터 변화 연구

고정식 해상풍력발전기의 경우 조류 및 파랑으로 인해 하부구조물에서 세굴현상이 발생하여 구조적 안정성에 심각한 손상을 발생시키는 사례들이 보고되고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 고정식 해상풍력발전기의 하부구조 형상 변화에 따른 세굴현상을 해석을 진행하였다. 해석은 소스코드가 공개된 라이브러리인 OpenFOAM을 사용하였다. 2차원 석션버켓에 대한 해석을 진행하여 수치방법을 선정하였다. 석션버켓의 매설 높이와 수심의 변화에 따른 해석을 진행하여 유동장 변화 및 세굴현상을 해석하였다.
