Irreducible Knee Dislocation with Vastus Medialis Muscle Interposition

        Wazzan Al-Juhani,Bander Ahmed,Turki AlMugren 대한슬관절학회 2019 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.31 No.1

Knee dislocation is one of the rare orthopedic emergencies that require special management with an annual incidence rate of less than 0.02%. Knee dislocations are classified by Kennedy, according to the direction of tibial dislocation in relation to the femur, as anteromedial, posteromedial, anterolateral, and posterolateral. Operative intervention and multiligament reconstruction are usually required in knee dislocation. Interposition of the vastus medialis inside the joint of a dislocated knee is an uncommon scenario where reduction becomes impossible. In this report, we present a case of irreducible knee dislocation with vastus medialis muscle interposition. Before reduction, we performed arthroscopy of the knee and removal of the interposed muscle to prevent extravasation of the fluid by sealing the torn capsular area.

The effect of gender, age, and body mass index on the medial and lateral posterior tibial slopes: a magnetic resonance imaging study

        ( Wazzan S. Aljuhani ),( Salman S. Qasim ),( Abdullah Alrasheed ),( Jumanah Altwalah ),( Mohammed J. Alsalman ) 대한슬관절학회 2021 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.33 No.-

Background: The posterior tibial slope (PTS) is crucial in knee joint stability and in maintaining the natural movement of the knee. An increase in the PTS is associated with various knee pathologic conditions, such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and anterior tibial translation (ATT). In the present study, we aimed to establish native medial and lateral PTS values for adult Saudis and to identify any association between PTS and gender, age, and body mass index (BMI). Materials and methods: A total of 285 consecutive, normal, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies of the knee were included in the study. The PTS was measured using the proximal anatomical axis of the tibia. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the medial and lateral PTS angles between age groups. The difference between the medial and lateral posterior tibial slopes was assessed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The Mann-Whitney U test was performed to compare the medial and lateral PTS angles between men and women. Age, gender, and BMI were analyzed by multivariate linear regression to determine whether they positively predict the medial and lateral PTS angles. Results: The mean physiological medial PTS was 5.86 ± 3.0° and 6.61 ± 3.32°, and the lateral PTS was 4.41 ± 3.35° and 4.63 ± 2.85° in men and women, respectively. This difference showed no statistically significant gender dimorphism (p > 0.05). The medial PTS was significantly larger than the lateral PTS (p < 0.0001). There was no statistically significant difference in the medial and lateral PTS angles between age groups (p > 0.05). Higher BMI was significantly associated with a steeper medial PTS (p = 0.001). Conclusions: This study provided native values for medial and lateral PTS angles in Saudis, which can assist surgeons in maintaining normal knee PTS during surgery. The PTS was not influenced by age. The medial PTS was significantly larger than the lateral PTS in men and women. The PTS showed no significant gender dimorphism. BMI was significantly associated with the medial PTS.

Some new topological indices of Aspirin

S.A. Wazzan 장전수학회 2020 Proceedings of the Jangjeon mathematical society Vol.23 No.1

Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), commonly known as Aspirin, is a medicinal drug prescribed to treat pain, fever, or in ammation. Topo- logical indices are graph invariants computed by the distance or degree of vertices of the molecular graph. In chemical graph theory, topolog- ical indices have been successfully used to describe the structures and predict certain physicochemical properties of chemical compounds. In this paper, we compute new topological indices, including the first and second entire Zagreb indices, the first and second Zagreb eccentricity indices, the Zagreb degree eccentricity indices, first and second locat- ing indices, and Sanskruti index of Aspirin. In addition, some other topological indices are calculated.

DFT calculations of thiosemicarbazide, arylisothiocynates, and 1-aryl-2,5-dithiohydrazodicarbonamides as corrosion inhibitors of copper in an aqueous chloride solution

Nuha Ahmed Wazzan 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.26 No.-

DFT with three functionals was performed on three types of molecules, i.e., thiosemicarbazide, phenylisothiocyanates, and 1-phenyl-2,5-dithiohydrazodicarbonamides used as corrosion inhibitors for copper in chloride solutions. The calculations determined a relationship between the molecular structures and the experimental inhibition efficiencies (%IEs). The order of the experimental %IEs corresponded to the order of most of the calculated quantum chemical parameters (QCPs). Supported by the Mulliken population analysis and molecular electrostatic potential plots, the calculations of the complex energies and the inhibitor-copper bond lengths were used to predict the most active site(s) in the inhibitor to be adsorbed on the copper surface.

Condylar jugular diverticulum: A report of 3 cases

Jagtap, Rohan,Wazzan, Taggreed,Hansen, Matthew,Kashtwari, Deeba Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2019 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.49 No.3

Jugular bulb diverticulum is an irregular extension of the jugular bulb into the temporal bone that may be symptomatic or asymptomatic. The jugular bulb has rarely been reported to extend into the occipital condyle; such extension is termed a condylar jugular diverticulum and is characterized as a defect in the occipital condyle contiguous with the jugular bulb. This report details 3 cases of condylar jugular diverticulum. Extension of the jugular bulb into the ipsilateral occipital condyle was noted as an incidental finding on cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) images of 3 patients. All 3 patients were asymptomatic, and this finding was unrelated to the initial area of interest. CBCT use is becoming ubiquitous in dentistry, as it allows 3-dimensional evaluation, unlike conventional radiography. Proper interpretation of the entire CBCT is essential, and recognition of the indicators of condylar jugular diverticulum may prevent misdiagnosis of this rare entity.

Changes in eating habits and lifestyle during COVID-19 curfew in children in Saudi Arabia

Mahitab Hanbazaza,Huda Wazzan 대한지역사회영양학회 2021 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.15 No.S

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Curfew due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic could influence health behaviors in people, especially in children, who can easily acquire unhealthy eating habits. This study aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 on weight, health behaviors including eating habits, physical activity, and sedentary behavior in children aged 6–15 years in Saudi Arabia. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey that included 280 children aged 6–15 years in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 curfew. The survey included questions on sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric measures, and health behaviors including eating habits, physical activity, and sedentary behavior. RESULTS: We observed a significant difference in the body mass index before and after the COVID-19 pandemic (P < 0.001). Children significantly tended to skip breakfast, along with a decreased intake of dairy products and fast food (P < 0.001). Moreover, children were less physically active and significantly tended to be involved in leisure screen-based activities, including watching TV and use of computer/games (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence for the negative influences of the COVID-19 curfew on health behaviors, including eating habits, physical activity, and sedentary behavior in children in Saudi Arabia.

Aquablation for benign prostatic obstruction: Single center technique evolution and experience

        Muhieddine Labban,Mazen Mansour,Nicolas Abdallah,Rola Jaafar,Wassim Wazzan,Muhammad Bulbul,Albert El-Hajj 대한비뇨의학회 2021 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.62 No.2

Purpose: Aquablation is a new technology that relies on real-time ultrasound guidance to ablate prostatic tissues using high velocity pressurized water. We hereby present our data and experience in this technique by exploring the perioperative surgical and functional outcomes. Materials and Methods: This is a prospectively filled study including consecutive patients who underwent aquablation at our Middle Eastern tertiary care center. Patient demographics, voiding parameters, and prostate disease specific variables were collected. We reported on the surgical and functional outcomes as well as the 3-month adverse events. We also explored the trend in hemoglobin drop and hemostasis method by dividing the consecutive cases into four temporal periods. Results: Fifty-nine patients underwent aquablation between March 2018 and March 2020. Mean time from transrectal ultrasound to Foley insertion was 48.5±2.5 minutes. Cautery was performed in 35 patients (59.3%) and a catheter-tensioning device was mounted in 50 patients (84.7%). On average, the hemoglobin dropped by −1.7±0.2 ng/dL (p<0.0001). The average length of catheterization and hospital stay were 2.1±0.3 days and 2.2±0.1 days, respectively. Only three patients (5.1%) were re-hospitalized. At three months, the average drop in serum prostate-specific antigen was −36.6±6.0% (p<0.0001) and functional outcomes considerably improved. We also recorded 14 adverse events in 13 patients (overall rate of 22.0%), with grade 1 and grade 2 complications comprising 71.4% of all adverse events. Conclusions: Our study results confirm the safety and efficacy of the aquablation procedure in the adoption phase.

A new approach for the evaluation of liquid waste generated from plant extraction process for the corrosion mitigation of carbon steel in acidic medium: Case of Chrysanthemum Coronarium stems

        Rachid Kellal,Driss Benmessaoud Left,Zaki S. Safi,Nuha Wazzan,Ohoud S. Al-Qurashi,Mustapha Zertoubi 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.125 No.-

In this study, the efficacy of liquid waste derived from the hydrodistillation of ChrysanthemumCoronarium stems as a corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M HCl was investigated. Phytochemicalscreening and analysis of total phenolic and flavonoid contents were conducted to determine the chemicalabundance of the extract (CCSE). An electrochemical evaluation was performed using polarizationpotentiodynamic and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy at 293 K. The results revealed that theextract effectively suppressed the corrosion of carbon steel with an inhibition efficiency of 80% througha mixed inhibition mechanism. The effect of temperature on corrosion inhibition was evaluated, and thesynergistic effect of KI in combination with the CCSE inhibitor was also studied. Surface morphologyexamination of carbon steel was conducted through SEM-EDX analysis to further examine the electrochemicalfindings and to understand the surface changes caused by the inhibitor. Additionally, computationalanalysis utilizing Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Molecular Dynamics Simulation (MD) wasconducted to gain further insight into the electronic adsorption mechanism at the active sites of the phytochemicalcompounds.
