A Vapor Sensor Based on a Porous Silicon Microcavity for the Determination of Solvent Solutions

        Huy Bui,Thuy Van Nguyen,The Anh Nguyen,Thanh Binh Pham,Quoc Trung Dang,Thuy Chi Do,Quang Minh Ngo,Roberto Coisson,Van Hoi Pham 한국광학회 2014 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.18 No.4

A porous silicon microcavity (PSMC) sensor has been made for vapors of solvent solutions, and a method has been developed in order to obtain simultaneous determination of two volatile substances with different concentrations. In our work, the temperature of the solution and the velocity of the air stream flowing through the solution have been used to control the response of the sensor for ethanol and acetone solutions. We study the dependence of the cavity-resonant wavelength shift on solvent concentration, velocity of the airflow and solution temperature. The wavelength shift depends linearly on concentration and increases with solution temperature and velocity of the airflow. The dependence of the wavelength shift on the solution temperature in the measurement contains properties of the temperature dependence of the solvent vapor pressure, which characterizes each solvent. As a result, the dependence of the wavelength shift on the solution temperature discriminates between solutions of ethanol and acetone with different concentrations. This suggests a possibility for the simultaneous determination of the volatile substances and their concentrations.

Temperature-Dependent Photoluminescence and Absoprtion of CdSe Quantum dots Embedded in PMMA

Tran Thi Kim Chi,Ung Thi Dieu Thuy,Nguyen Quang Liem,Man Hoai Nam,Do Xuan Thanh 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.5

Photoluminescence and absorption studies of CdSe quantum dots in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) were carried out in the temperature range 14 - 310 K. We found an anomalously discontinuous variation of the photoluminescence intensity and the peak position around 50 K. Two different kinds of states, whose populations are temperature-dependent, are proposed as the origins for the emissions at lower and higher temperatures. The absorption exhibited a temperature-dependent behavior similar to that of the photoluminescence.O Photoluminescence and absorption studies of CdSe quantum dots in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) were carried out in the temperature range 14 - 310 K. SCN1A Gene Mutation and Adaptive Functioning in 18 Vietnamese Children with Dravet Syndrome

Thi Thu Hang Do,Diem My Vu,Thi Thuy Kieu Huynh,Thi Khanh Van Le,손은화,Thieu Mai Thao Le,Huu Hao Ha,Chi Bao Bui 대한신경과학회 2017 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.13 No.1

Background and Purpose Dravet syndrome is a rare and severe type of epilepsy in infants. The heterogeneity in the overall intellectual disability that these patients suffer from has been attributed to differences in genetic background and epilepsy severity. Methods Eighteen Vietnamese children diagnosed with Dravet syndrome were included in this study. SCN1A variants were screened by direct sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification. Adaptive functioning was assessed in all patients using the Vietnamese version of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, and the results were analyzed relative to the SCN1A variants and epilepsy severity. Results We identified 13 pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants, including 6 that have not been reported previously. We found no correlations between the presence or type of SCN1A variants and the level of adaptive functioning impairment or severity of epilepsy. Only two of nine patients aged at least 5 years had an adaptive functioning score higher than 50. Both of these patients had a low frequency of convulsive seizures and no history of status epilepticus or prolonged seizures. The remaining seven had very low adaptive functioning scores (39 or less) despite the variability in the severity of their epilepsy confirming the involvement of factors other than the severity of epilepsy in determining the developmental outcome. Conclusions Our study expands the spectrum of known SCN1A variants and confirms the current understanding of the role of the genetic background and epilepsy severity in determining the developmental outcome of Dravet syndrome patients.

Polarization of Colloidal CdSe Quantum Dots

Nguyen Quang Liem,Le Quang Phuong,Ung Thi Dieu Thuy,Tran Thi Kim Chi,Do Xuan Thanh 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.3

The effects of the polarization of colloidal CdSe QDs on the optical transitions are discussed based on systematic studies of a colloidal CdSe-based QDs system as a function of the net QDs' polarity/polarization and of the solvent's polarity. The polarization of the QD/ligand complexes makes them water-soluble after appropriate cleaning processes. The polarization of the bare CdSe QDs is reasonably thought to originate from dangling bonds at the surfaces of the dots. Passivation of the Se dangling bond by hydrogen generated from ultraviolet irradiation of the CdSe QDs in water is clearly observed to cause a spectral blueshift and a photoluminescence enhancement.
