Thi Nong Nhu-Mai 한국해운물류학회 2022 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.38 No.3

Efficiency management is increasing its importance in the improvement of the chain sustainability. As such, this study aims to assess the performance efficiency of retail stores in fashion industry. The integrated approach of Delphi and DEA techniques was employed to address the performance efficiency assessment problem. The Delphi method was used to define the input and output variables, whereas the DEA was applied to evaluate the performance efficiency. The proposed approach was then applied into a fashion company in Hochiminh city of Vietnam to assess its retail chain performance. The results showed that labour, operational costs, size of store, number of customers, and sales revenue are considered as input and output variables in the retailing performance efficiency evaluation. Besides, it is also concluded in the study that most of efficiency retail stores are located in the dynamic districts and the efficient stores can be at any size. The proposed approach verifies its usefulness in the retailing sector. Therefore, it can be applied to the performance efficiency of retail stores in all industries. In terms of theoretical contribution, the input and output variables proposed in this study may devote to the literature in the concept and assessment of the performance efficiency. Moreover, comprehensive and multi-variable assessment of retailing sector may bring lots of benefits not only to the decision-making units but also the authorities or association with constraint funds. © 2022 The Authors. Most research on supplier selection criteria for T&A sector was mainly conducted based on the review of literature. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore these criteria based on a framework in which an integrated approach of qualitative and quantitative was employed. First, an in-depth interview was used to explore what supplier selection criteria T&A companies were utilized after the literature on supplier selection criteria had been reviewed. Next, a prequestionnaire was built and sent to some practitioners and experts for their revision. Then, a pilot survey of 31 T&A companies with numerous statistical tests was conducted to validate the questionnaire. Finally, an official study of 282 respondents was conducted to determine supplier selection criteria which are best suited for T&A companies through exploratory factor analysis. The findings of the study suggest that there are eight supplier selection criteria including Quality, Cost, Delivery, Service, Capability, Company’s image, Relationship, and Sourcing country. Each criterion comprises certain sub-criteria to make the supplier selection criteria set more comprehensive. A hybrid model for distribution center location selection

Nong Thi Nhu-Mai 한국해운물류학회 2022 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.38 No.1

This research aims to propose an integrated MCDM model to support the distribution center location selection. The integrated approach of ANP and TOPSIS was employed to address the distribution center selection problem. The ANP method was used to define the weights of the selection criteria, whereas the TOPSIS was applied to rank alternatives. The proposed model was then applied into Dong Nai province in Vietnam to select the best alternatives to be the distribution center. The results showed that Long Khanh is the most appropriate location for the distribution center as it is ranked first in the order of preference for selection. The proposed model provides the decision makers with more powerful methods than conventional ones. Therefore, the model can be applied to distribution center location selection in all industries. In terms of theoretical contribution, the proposed criteria can contribute to literature review in the selection of location as well as the concept of distribution center. In addition, the research also provides insight for firms and public authorities in making decision on distribution center location based on limited resources as well as avoiding the misuse of funds. © 2021 The Authors. Performance efficiency assessment of Vietnamese ports: An application of Delphi with Kamet principles and DEA model

Nong Thi Nhu-Mai 한국해운물류학회 2023 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.39 No.1

Ports form important links in the overall trade chain and act as driving forces for marine economic development. However, the operation of ports also has certain difficulties and challenges that port operators need to overcome. As such, this research aims to measure the performance efficiency of 22 ports listed in the stock market in Vietnam – a developing country with notable progress and role in global seaborne transport. The hybrid method of Delphi technique with KAMET principle and input and output – oriented DEA method was applied to solve the problem of efficiency assessment. The Delphi technique with KAMET principle was used to determine the efficiency evaluation criteria whilst the input and output – oriented DEA was employed to measure the efficiency. The findings show that capital, operation expenses, labour, port area, quay length, depth, revenue, and cargo throughputs are considered as input and output variables in the port efficiency evaluation. Additionally, it is also concluded in the research that scale and management skills are the dominant source of efficiency and Vietnamese ports show rather high management skills. Moreover, comprehensive and multi-variable assessment of port system may bring lots of benefits not only to the decision-making units but also the maritime authorities within constraint funds.

Formal versus Informal Credit: Which is Better in Helping Rural Areas in Vietnam?

TRUONG, Thi Hoai Linh,LE, Thi Nhu Quynh,PHAN, Hong Mai Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.5

The study seeks to evaluate the impacts of three types of credit - formal, semi-formal, and informal credits - on the well-being of households in Vietnam's rural areas. Based on data from the Vietnam Household Living Standard Surveys in 2014 and 2016, the research uses the instrumental variable fixed-effect models to estimate the effects of three kinds of credit on household's per capita income and expenditure. There are some significant findings. First, in rural areas, formal credit is the most popular source with stable and cheap borrowing costs. Informal credit is a complement to formal credit to meet urgent needs. Funding agriculture activities is the most commonly cited purpose of borrowing, followed by purchasing assets. The highest misuse rate belongs to the group of loans for agriculture production. Second, the results show that credit helps smoothen consumption rather than generate income for rural households. Three types of credit have insignificant or negative effects on household's per capita income. Formal loans significantly improve total expenditure and spending on healthcare and education. Informal and semi-formal credits show a little influence on consumption. Informal loans have a significantly positive effect on healthcare expenditure. In contrast, having semi-formal loans tends to decrease spending on foods.
