Dear Editor, Mycoplasma hominis is a member of the common urogenital flora with the potential to cause genital and extragenital infections, the latter of which mainly occur in immunocompromised hosts [1]. M. hominis is frequently associated with post-transplant infection in extragenital cases. To expand our knowledge about post-transplant Mycoplasma infection of immunocompromised hosts, we report a case of M. hominis infection causing multiple abscesses around the pancreas graft after simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation in a patient with diabetes. Because this report is not a clinical trial/research, an approval from the Institutional Review Board was exempted.

Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) can be well-dispersed in water by wrapping with short segments of natural DNA from salmon sperm. We report here the isolated DNA-wrapped SWNT hybrids. Measurements were carried out using UV-vis-NIR, near-infrared photoluminescence (PL) spectrum and atomic force microscopy (AFM). A possible charge transport between SWNTs and salmon-DNA is discussed in terms of observed spectral shifts in the photoluminescence spectra.

Sc2C2@C82(II) and Sc2C2@C82(III) have been synthesized and chromatographically isolated and characterized by using UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy. Solid-state 13C and 45Sc NMR on Sc2C2@C82 metallofullerenes provide the rotational activation energy of Sc atoms encapsulated in C82 fullerenes which is lower than that in solution due to crystal field effects on the rate of the rotation.

Carbon nanotubes with 1–6 walls have been grown on cobalt-loaded mesoporous silica (i.e., MCM41) by using acetylene catalytic chemical vapor deposition. It is found that titanium grafting on the MCM41 pore walls prior to cobalt loading promotes the growth of nanotubes with 1–6 walls. As-grown nanotube material is found to be a mixture of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), double-wall carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) and thin-multiwall carbon nanotubes (t-MWNTs) with 3–6 walls. Annealing of the as-grown nanotubes has reduced the amount of SWNTs in the nanotube mixture. Several structural deformations of the t-MWNTs are observed during transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Complete or partial collapse of the t-MWNTs is also found due to these structural deformations. Graphite-like domains developed at the collapsed regions stabilize these structural deformations.
STM TIP-CURRENT-INDUCED POLYMERIZATION OF C60, Ce2@C80 AND Lu2@C76

Polymerization of C60, Ce2@C80, and Lu2@C76 metallofullerenes induced by electron injection from a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) tip has been studied. C60 polymerization has been observed only with C60 multilayer on Au(111) and not with C60 monolayer on Au(111). The Ce2@C80 metallofullerene on Si(111)-7 × 7 also polymerizes by electron injection but has less polymerization reactivity than C60. Interestingly, the Lu2@C76 metallofullerene on Si(111)-7 × 7 does not show any polymerization. Based on these STM observations on the tip-induced polymerization, the direction of the bond formation and the dependence of reactivity on the kind of fullerenes are discussed.
