Robust Magnetic Order of Ce 4f-electrons Coexisting with Superconductivity in CeFeAsO1−xFx
T. Shang,L. Jiao,J. Dai,H. Q. Yuan,F. F. Balakirev,W. Z. Hu,N. L. Wang 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
The electrical resistance of CeFeAsO1−xFx (x = 0.06 and 0.08) has been measured in magneticfields up to 40 T. At zero field, the sample with x = 0.06 shows a structural phase transition aroundTS 100 K, followed by a spin-density-wave (SDW) transition around TSDW 30 K. For x =0.08, the structural phase transition is suppressed down to TS 60 K without a clear anomalyassociated with the Fe-SDW transition, and superconductivity shows up at TC 25 K. At lowertemperatures, both samples show a clear resistive peak around TN 4 K, which is associated withthe antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition of Ce 4f-electrons. Strikingly, zero resistance is recoveredupon a further lowering of the temperature to below TN for x = 0.08. Moreover, we found thatthe AFM transition of Ce 4f-electrons at 4 K hardly change when a magnetic field of up to 40 Twas applied. This was true even in the case of x = 0.08, for which the superconductivity had beenpartially suppressed at such a large field.

Shaving shear-welding is a solid-state welding process, which utilizes plastic deformation of surplus material. The solid-state nature of this process contributes to high integrity and strength of the weld. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of process variables on the material flow patterns and identify the process condition for obtaining the best weld. FEM simulations were carried out along with experimental characterizations. The results showed the importance of the cutter angles and the overlap lengths, and helped attain the optimum shaving shear-welding die and the best process condition.

<P>Cardiac ATP-sensitive K(+) channels have been suggested to contribute to the adaptive physiological response to metabolic challenge after β-adrenoceptor stimulation. However, an increased atrial K(+)-conductance might be expected to be proarrhythmic. We investigated the effect of ATP-sensitive K(+) channel blockade on the electrophysiological responses to β-adrenoceptor-induced metabolic challenge in intact atria.</P>
Synthesis and pressure effects on the La doped CaFe2As2
Shin, Soohyeon,Shang, T.,Yuan, H.Q.,Park, Tuson 한국초전도저온공학회 2014 한국초전도저온공학회논문지 Vol.16 No.3
We have synthesized La doped $CaFe_2As_2$ single crystals with Sn flux in an evacuated quartz ampule. Doping and pressure effects on the magnetic and superconducting properties of the under-doped $Ca_{1-x}La_xFe_2As_2$ (x=0.08, 0.1) were studied by measuring electrical resistivity under quasi-hydrostatic pressure up to 21 kbar. Magnetic transition temperatures for all studied concentrations were sharply suppressed with slight amplitude of pressure, less than 3 kbar, while superconducting transition temperatures were robust against pressure. In this communication, we report temperature-pressure phase diagram for the La-doped $CaFe_2As_2$ single crystals.
Atlantic-induced pan-tropical climate change over the past three decades
Li, Xichen,Xie, Shang-Ping,Gille, Sarah T.,Yoo, Changhyun Nature Publishing Group 2016 Nature climate change Vol.6 No.3
<P>During the past three decades, tropical sea surface temperature (SST) has shown dipole-like trends, with warming over the tropical Atlantic and Indo-western Pacific but cooling over the eastern Pacific. Competing hypotheses relate this cooling, identified as a driver of the global warming hiatus(1,2), to the warming trends in either the Atlantic(3,4) or Indian Ocean(5). However, the mechanisms, the relative importance and the interactions between these teleconnections remain unclear. Using a state-of-the-art climate model, we show that the Atlantic plays a key role in initiating the tropical-wide teleconnection, and the Atlantic-induced anomalies contribute similar to 55-75% of the tropical SST and circulation changes during the satellite era. The Atlantic warming drives easterly wind anomalies over the Indo-western Pacific as Kelvin waves and westerly anomalies over the eastern Pacific as Rossby waves. The wind changes induce an Indo-western Pacific warming through the wind-evaporation-SST effect(6,7), and this warming intensifies the La Nina-type response in the tropical Pacific by enhancing the easterly trade winds and through the Bjerknes ocean dynamical processes(8). The teleconnection develops into a tropical-wide SST dipole pattern. This mechanism, supported by observations and a hierarchy of climate models, reveals that the tropical ocean basins are more tightly connected than previously thought.</P>
Alleviating Neuropathic Pain Hypersensitivity by Inhibiting PKM in the Anterior Cingulate Cortex

<P>Synaptic plasticity is a key mechanism for chronic pain. It occurs at different levels of the central nervous system, including spinal cord and cortex. Studies have mainly focused on signaling proteins that trigger these plastic changes, whereas few have addressed the maintenance of plastic changes related to chronic pain. We found that protein kinase M zeta (PKM관) maintains pain-induced persistent changes in the mouse anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Peripheral nerve injury caused activation of PKM관 in the ACC, and inhibiting PKM관 by a selective inhibitor, 관-pseudosubstrate inhibitory peptide (ZIP), erased synaptic potentiation. Microinjection of ZIP into the ACC blocked behavioral sensitization. These results suggest that PKM관 in the ACC acts to maintain neuropathic pain. PKM관 could thus be a new therapeutic target for treating chronic pain.</P>
