        Hybrid nanofiltration membranes prepared by a simultaneous synthesis method for precise molecular separation

        Incorporation of nanofillers is an option to break through the trade-off of nanofiltration membranes. Inthe present work, a simultaneous synthesis method, ZIF and selective layer formed in one step, was proposedto prepare hybrid nanofiltration membrane. Co2+ ions pre-assembled on hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile(PANH) support provided nucleation sites for ZIF-67 formation. The growth of ZIF-67 and theformation of polyethyleneimine (PEI) selective layer on the support completed in one step through codepositingof a solution of PEI and Hmim (2-methylimidazole). The feasibility of the simultaneous synthesismethod was verified by using different supports, PEIs, and the precursor concentrations. All resultsshow that ZIF-67 incorporation improved the water permenace, without significant compromising ofmembrane rejection. At an optimized condition, the obtained hybrid composite membrane showed highpermeance of 35 L/(m2*h*bar) and rejection of 93% toward PEG 200. The permeance increased by about150%–200% compared with the membrane without ZIF-67. Meanwile, the rejections of salts of the hybridmembrane were very low, exhibiting outstanding organic selectivity.

        Polysaccharide from the Seeds of Plantago asiatica L. Protect Against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Liver Injury

        Previous studies have proven that polysaccharide obtained from the seeds of Plantago asiatica L. (PLCP) could induce maturation of murine dendritic cells, promote defecation, and possess antioxidant activity in vitro. However, the effect of PLCP on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced liver injury in mice has been rarely reported. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effect of PLCP on LPS-induced liver injury. Mice were pretreated orally with different dose of PLCP for 3 weeks. On day 22, they were injected intraperitoneally with LPS and sacrificed 12 h later. The results showed that PLCP inhibited the excessive production of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, IL-2, and IL-1β in mouse serum and liver. PLCP also improved glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant capacity activities in mouse liver. In addition, PLCP inhibited nitric oxide, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and cyclooxygenase-2 expression, and increased metallothionein production in mouse liver. Consequently, PLCP may possess protective effects on inflammatory associated liver injury.

      • Correlation Between New Cooperative Medical Scheme Policy Design and Catastrophic Medical Payment : Evidence From 25 Counties in Rural China

        <P>Few studies have examined the association between the New Cooperative Medical Scheme (NCMS) policy design and its achievement of providing financial protection to rural residents. This study collected data on NCMS policy design and health care spending from 25 counties and rural households in their catchment areas. It shows that on average, NCMS has a growing but small effect on the reduction of catastrophic medical payment (CMP) incidence. If outpatient spending can be reimbursed from an NCMS pooled account, the incidence of CMP before a reimbursement and that after a reimbursement will be reduced. Higher nominal reimbursement rate for inpatient spending at provincial hospitals is correlated with higher incidence of CMP before a reimbursement. Higher ceiling for annual reimbursement from NCMS is associated with lower incidence of CMP after a reimbursement. Thus, NCMS policy design can be improved to strengthen its effects on the reduction of CMP incidence.</P>

        Are Chinese Edible Oils Safe? A Survey of Trans Fatty Acid Contents in Chinese Edible Oils

        Nine different edible oil types from 7 cities in China were analyzed. Trans fatty acid (TFA) contents in edible oils were determined, TFA distribution characteristics were analyzed, and a risk assessment was performed. Total TFA contents varied from 0.075±0.011 to 2.243±0.770 g/100 g of oil, with a mean content of 0.66 g/100 g of oil. TFA contents differed among different oil types and among different cities. Generally speaking, oil samples from northern areas of China contained more TFA, and lard usually had higher levels of TFA than other oils. An exposure assessment showed that the estimated daily intake of TFA from Chinese edible oils was low, and a risk assessment indicated that there was a low risk for TFA consumption in Chinese edible oils.

      • A Novel Fixed Twin-Rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle with Variable Angle Louver Rudder

        A novel fixed twin-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on the variable angle louver rudder (VALR) is developed in this work. In view of the mechanical characteristics under the action of the louver rudder, specific kinematics and dynamics models are derived. The aerodynamic characteristics of the UAV are studied through computational fluid dynamics simulation, and a ground measurement system is designed to analyze the aerodynamic characteristics of the prototype. An attitude control model is proposed, and maneuvers such as take-off, landing, hovering, and braking are realized through flight experiments, which verify the feasibility of the prototype design. This research shows that the new layout with the VALR system, combined with the advantages of rudder control and vector control, can reduce the structural complexity and deadweight of the UAV while ensuring flight stability and improving maneuverability. Moreover, the novel UAV has higher energy efficiency and economy.

        Anti-fouling nanofiltration membranes based on macromolecule crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol

        Nanofiltration membranes with excellent anti-fouling properties were fabricated through a green surfacecrosslink method. Poly (styrene-maleic anhydride) (SMA) blended polyethersulfone (PES) membrane wasused as a support. The SMA in the PES support served as a macromolecular crosslinker. After coating ofpolyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on the surface of the SMA-PES support, a PVA selective layer with gradient crosslinkedstructure was formed, through the esterification between the anhydride groups in SMA and thehydroxyl groups in PVA. This process adopts a full-water fabrication strategy without secondary pollution. The gradiently cross-linked PVA/SMA-PES membrane, with molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) about600 Da and permeance around 10-12 L/(m2hbar), exhibited good dye/salts separation performance. Inthe filtration of a mixed solution of Congo Red (CR) and calcium chloride (CaCl2), the membrane rejected98% CR and only had 10% rejection of CaCl2. In addition, this membrane processed an excellent antifoulingproperty. In the BSA fouling test, the pure water flux recovery ratio (FRR) was 99%. It is expectedthat the PVA/SMA-PES membrane can be used in organic desalination.

        Unified model for the output accuracy of open-chain manipulators that considers joint clearance and structural parameters

        A unified model is proposed for the output accuracy of open-chain manipulators in consideration of joint clearance and structural parameters. First, the operator of the finite-displacement screw matrix and the combination operation are presented. Second, the joint clearance and structural parameters are described and analyzed with screw theory. A virtual screw is established for the joint clearance and structural parameter errors. Third, a unified model is built through the adjoint transformation of Lie groups in consideration of the two effectors of the virtual screw. The error pose is decomposed into orientation and position errors, which are obtained through the virtual screw. Finally, an open-chain manipulator with six degrees of freedom is analyzed based on the proposed model. The position and orientation errors are obtained with the trajectory that provided an intuitive geometric insight into the accuracy and exact maximal position and orientation errors.

        An Effective Method for Deproteinization of Bioactive Polysaccharides Extracted from Lingzhi (Ganoderma atrum)

        Deproteinization procedure is a fundamental step for analyzing polysaccharide from natural plants. In this study, in the course of refining bioactive polysaccharides from lingzhi (Ganoderma atrum), an effective deproteinization method using lead acetate solution was established by comparing with other available methods. The percentages of deproteinization, polysaccharide loss, and its antioxidant activities loss were used as the index to evaluate and optimize the precipitation experimental conditions. The results showed that the modified method, precipitation with the addition of 0.4-0.52%(w/v) lead acetate, was superior to the others, as evidenced by the highest deproteinization efficiency (88%), as well as the lowest polysaccharide loss (17%). And notably its antioxidant activity also remained good (loss 15%). It provides a simple prefractionation step for the analysis of polysaccharide from natural plants. Polysaccharide isolated by this method is in the native state. Our method may offer a rapid method for removing protein from plant polysaccharides in large scale.

        Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B via Fe-g-C3N4 Activated Sulfate Radical-Based Advanced Oxidation Processes and the Synergistic Mechanism

        Fe-doped g-C 3 N 4 has been proven to have the potential of visible light photocatalysis, but its catalytic activity of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) is neglected. Herein, the complex advanced oxidation processes of Fe-g-C 3 N 4 mediated PMS and visible light photocatalysis was developed, named as Vis/Fe-g-C 3 N 4 /PMS system, whose eff ects and synergistic mechanism for decomposing Rhodamine B (RhB) was evaluated. The coupling of sulfate radicals and photocatalysis for RhB degradation showed that the synergistic effi ciency ( η Syn ) and factor ( S c ) were 20.1% and 4.82, respectively, with a degradation effi ciency of 99.8%. Iron species dispersed on g-C 3 N 4 provided active sites for PMS activation to generate sulfate radicals, simultaneously reduced the forbidden band, and separated the photo-generated charges of g-C 3 N 4 . h + , SO 4 · ‾ and 1 O 2 were the main active species, and the increase of 1 O 2 was the cause of the synergistic eff ect. The possible degradation path of RhB by this coupling system was proposed. Our fi ndings prove that Vis/Fe-g-C 3 N 4 /PMS system has a great potential to decompose dye wastewater, and also to be an environmental remediation perspective.
