Isolation and Transcriptional Expression of CuZn Superoxide Dismutase from Codonopsis lanceolata
Lee,Kang,In,Jun-Gyo,Yu,Chang-Yeon,Yun,Song-Joong,Min,Byung-Hoon,Rho,Yeong-Deok,Kim,Moo-Sung,Yang,Deok-Chun 한국자원식물학회 2004 Plant Resources Vol.7 No.3
To investigate the defense mechanism against the abiotic stress, a cDNA clone encoding a CuZn superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD) protein was isolated from a cDNA library prepared from tabroot mRNAs of Codonopsis lanceolata. The eDNA, designated ClSODCc, is 799 nucleotides long and has an open reading frame of 459 bp with a deduced amino acid sequence of 152 residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of ClSODCc matched to the previously reported CuZnSODs. Consensus amino acid residues (His-45, -47, -62, -70, -79, -119 and Asp-82) were involved in Cu-, Cu/Zn-, and Zn- binding ligands. The deduced amino acid sequence of ClSODCc showed high homologies (82%-86%) regardless of species. Expression of ClSODCc by oxidative stress was increased up to 1 h after treatment and declined gradually. Much earlier and stronger expression of ClSODCc was observed in the cold stress treatment.

The purpose of this report is to evaluate effect of Korean medical treatment on idiopathic gonadotropin-dependent precocious puberty (G-DPP) patient received herbal medicine. We administered Aesopjiyoun-tang remedy to idiopathic G-DPP and analyzed the delay effect by hormonal value and radiographs; the height growth effect by measurement of height. After Korean medical treatment, suppression effect to peak- Luteinizing Hormone level (LHL) is 14.39IU/L to 10.9IU/L for 13month, growth effect to height value is 11cm/13month; and change of mean growth velocity (MGV) is 6.08cm/year to 10.06cm/year. The gain in height by treatment is 3.98cm/year. The result suggests Aesopjiyoun-tang can be an effective treatment for G-DPP. Herbal medicine can be used as an alternative treatment in place of the GnRH treatment.

Background/Aims: We investigated the frequency of occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV)-positive individuals and the effects of occult HBV infection on the severity of liver disease. Methods: Seventy-one hepatitis B virus surface-antigen (HBsAg)-negative patients were divided according to their HBV serological status into groups A (anti-HBc positive, anti-HBs negative; n=18), B (anti-HBc positive, anti-HBs positive; n=34), and C (anti-HBc negative, anti-HBs positive/negative; n=19), and by anti-HCV positivity (anti-HCV positive; n=32 vs. anti-HCV negative; n=39). Liver biopsy samples were taken, and HBV DNA was quantified by real-time PCR. Results: Intrahepatic HBV DNA was detected in 32.4% (23/71) of the entire cohort, and HBV DNA levels were invariably low in the different groups. Occult HBV infection was detected more frequently in the anti-HBc-positive patients. Intrahepatic HBV DNA was detected in 28.1% (9/32) of the anti-HCV-positive and 35.9% (14/39) of the anti-HCV-negative subjects. The HCV genotype did not affect the detection rate of intrahepatic HBV DNA. In anti-HCV-positive cases, occult HBV infection did not affect liver disease severity. Conclusions: Low levels of intrahepatic HBV DNA were detected frequently in both HBsAg-negative and anti-HCV-positive cases. However, the frequency of occult HBV infection was not affected by the presence of hepatitis C, and occult HBV infection did not have a significant effect on the disease severity of hepatitis C. COSYMPLECTIC MANIFOLDS WITH AN INDEFINITE RIEMANNIAN METRIC
Lee, Sang-Deok,Jun, Dong-Kum,Kim, Byung-Hak 한국전산응용수학회 1999 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.6 No.1
Graves and Nomizu investigated an indefinite version of the Cartan's result. Specifically they obtained the conditions for all non-degenerate planes to have the same sectional curvature in the in-definite Riemannian manifold. In this paper we are to study the cosym-plective version of the results of Graves and Nomizu and characterize an indefinite cosymplectic spce form.

Backgrounds/Aims: There are few guidelines for tailored immunosuppressive regimens for liver transplantation (LT) recipients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To establish long-term immunosuppressive regimens suitable for Korean adult LT recipients, we analyzed those that were currently in use at a single high-volume institution. Methods: This cross-sectional study comprises three parts including review of the immunosuppressive regimens used to manage 2,147 adult LT outpatients, review of LT recipients who were diagnosed of HCC at LT, and review of LT recipients who suffered from HCC recurrence. Results: In 1,000 adult LT recipients who were living more than 5 years with no adverse events, 916 received a calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-based therapy (CNI only in 520; CNI with mycophenolate mofetil [MMF] in 396) and 84 were receiving an MMF-based therapy (MMF only in 45; MMF with minimal CNI in 39). Tacrolimus was preferred over cyclosporine for both monotherapy and combination therapy along the passage of posttransplant period. There was no difference in selection of immunosuppressants, target blood concentration, and rate of combination therapy between LT recipients with and without HCC, except for the first 1 year. Sirolimus-based regimens were applied in 21 patients who showed HCC recurrence. Sorafenib was often used after conversion to sirolimus. Conclusions: Tailored immunosuppressive regimen covering the long-term posttransplant period should be established after consideration of individualized patient profiles including HCC.
OPTICAL AND NIR PHOTOMETRY OF OPEN CLUSTER NGC 7790
LEE JUNG-DEOK,LEE SANG-GAK The Korean Astronomical Society 1999 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.32 No.2
We present BVRI CCD photometry and near-infrared K photometry of the intermediate-aged open cluster NGC 7790. The reddening, E(B - V) = 0.54 $\pm$ 0.05 and the distance modulus, (m - M)o = 12.45 $\pm$ 0.10 for the cluster were determined by zero-age-main-sequence fitting and theoretical isochrone fitting using not only (V, B - V), (V, V - 1), (V, V - R) but also (V, V - K) color-magnitude diagrams. The reddening corresponded approximately to the average value derived from previous studies, while the distance modulus was found to be almost midway between the CCD photometric results of Romeo et al. (1989) and those of Mateo & Madore (1988). We have used four colors to distinguish members from field stars. The expected colors were calculated using the derived distance modulus, and were then were compared with the observed colors (B - V), (V - 1), (V - R), and (V - K). Thus, a color excess E(B - V) for each star was determined which could give the minimum difference between the calculated and observed colors. Single and binary members of the cluster were determined on the basis of the E(B - V) distribution of stars.
