      • Variations in U.S. consumers' acceptability of commercially-available rice-based milk alternatives with respect to sensory attributes and food neophobia traits

        Pramudya, Ragita C.,Lee, Jihyun,Chapko, Matthew J.,Lee, KwangRag,Lee, Sunghee,Lee, JunYoung,Tokar, Tonya,Seo, Han-Seok Blackwell Publishing 2019 Journal of sensory studies Vol.34 No.3

<P> This study aimed to determine whether acceptability of rice-based milk alternatives (RMAs) is influenced by sensory attributes and nonsensory factors, in particular with respect to US consumers' demographic profiles, frequency of RMA consumption, and food neophobia traits. Ten trained panelists evaluated 7 commercially-available RMA samples with respect to 23 attributes, and 101 consumer panelists rated both hedonic impressions and just-about-right (JAR) intensities of attributes among the 7 RMA samples. Descriptive sensory analysis revealed that the 7 RMA samples differed significantly in terms of the 13 attributes. A partial least squares regression found that overall liking of RMAs was positively associated with higher intensities of sweetness, astringency, and nutty, vanillin, and grainy flavor attributes, while it was negatively associated with higher intensities of yeasty/fermented, vanillin, and starchy aromas, yeasty/fermented and cardboard flavors, bitter and sour tastes, and dark color. Consumers with higher food neophobia traits were found to like flavors of RMAs less. Overall likings of RMAs did not differ as a function of gender, age group, annual household income, and frequency of RMA consumption. In conclusion, this study provides a better understanding of sensory attributes, consumer acceptability, and drivers of likingfor commercially-available RMAs in the U.S.market. </P>

THE CREATIVE APPROACH FOR DISSEMINATING ASTRONOMY TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

        PRAMUDYA, Y.,SAWITAR, W. The Korean Astronomical Society 2015 天文學論叢 Vol.30 No.2

Astronomical outreach activities for the general public who are unfamiliar to astronomy is a challenging task. It requires creative thinking to solve the problem. The amateur astronomical clubs in a number of cities in Indonesia routinely schedule observations at public parks. The interaction between these clubs and formal education institutions is established by face to face interaction and assisted by social media. The physics teachers who took astronomy courses in university are potential resources to enlarge the outreach scope by creating astronomical clubs as an extracurricular activity. Recent progressive trends in astronomy dissemination for the disabled are also a great opportunity to assist the disabled in experiencing hands-on activities based on formal and informal education.

      • Influences of oral tactile stimuli on evoked emotions from cold tea consumption: A case study of straws

        ( Ragita C. Pramudya ),( Asmita Singh ),( Han-seok Seo ) 한국감성과학회 2019 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2019 No.-

Recently, consumer awareness toward sustainable lifestyles has increased, and the use of reusable straws is becoming the norm. There is ample evidence through previous research that extrinsic factors can influence consumer acceptance, perception, and purchasing behavior of food products. However, there have been no previous studies pertaining the influences of straw materials on consumer experience of products. This study aimed to determine the effects of straw materials on evoked emotions and sensory perception of consumers toward cold tea beverages. Five materials of straws were used in this study, including plastic, silicone, stainless steel, copper, and paper. Fifty cold-tea consumers (23 females) aged between 18 and 59 years old rated the liking, sensory intensities, and emotional responses toward unsweetened cold black tea served with the aforementioned straws. Results showed that the plastic straws induced most bitter, sour, and astringent perceptions, while the opposite trends were observed with copper straws. Emotions evoked by cold tea beverages differed with the different materials of straws, indicating that straw materials may influence consumer experience of cold tea products. In conclusion, this study provides empirical evidence that sensory perception and emotions toward cold tea beverages can vary as a function of the material type of straws.

Model of Water, Energy and Waste Management for Development of Eco-Innovation Park ; A Case Study of Center for Research of Science and Technology "PUSPIPTEK," South Tangerang City, Indonesia

Setiawati, Sri,Alikodra, Hadi,Pramudya, Bambang,Dharmawan, Arya Hadi World Technopolis Association 2014 World Technopolis Review Vol.3 No.2

Center for Research of Science and Technology ("PUSPIPTEK") has 460 hectares land area, still maintained as a green area with more than 30% green space. There are 47 centers for research and testing technology, technology-based industries, and as well as public supporting facilities in PUSPIPTEK area. Based on the concepts developed to make this area as an ecological region, PUSPIPTEK can be seen as a model of eco-innovation. The purpose of this research is to develop a model of water, energy and waste management with eco-innovation concept. As a new approach in addressing environmental degradation and maintaining the sustainability of ecosystem, studies related to eco-innovation policy that combines the management of water, energy and waste in the region has not been done. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, a series of techniques for collecting data on PUSPIPTEK existing conditions will be carried out, which includes utilities data (water, electricity, sewage) and master plan of this area. The savings over the implementation of the concept of eco-innovation in water, energy, and waste management were calculated and analyzed using quatitative methods. The amount of cost savings and feasibility were then calculated. Eco innovation in water management among other innovations include the provision of alternative sources of water, overflow of rain water and water environments utilization, and use of gravity to replace the pumping function. Eco-innovation in energy management innovations include the use of LED and solar cell for air conditioning. Eco-innovation in waste management includes methods of composting for organic waste management. The research results: (1) The savings that can be achieved with the implementation of eco innovation in the water management is Rp. 3,032,640 daily, or Rp.1,106,913,600 annually; (2) The savings derived from the implementation of eco innovation through replacement of central AC to AC LiBr Solar Powered will be saved Rp.1,933,992,990 annually and the use of LED lights in the Public street lighting PUSPIPTEK saved Rp.163,454,433 annually; (3) Application of eco innovation in waste management will be able to raise awareness of the environment by sorting organic, inorganic and plastic waste. Composting and plastic waste obtained from the sale revenue of Rp. 44,016,000 per year; (4) Overall, implementation of the eco-innovation system in PUSPIPTEK area can saves Rp. 3,248,377,023 per year, compared to the existing system; and (5)The savings are obtained with implementation of eco-innovation is considered as income. Analysis of the feasibility of the implementation of eco-innovation in water, energy, and waste management in PUSPIPTEK give NPV at a 15% discount factor in Rp. 3,895,228,761; 23.20% of IRR and 4.48 years of PBP. Thus the model of eco-innovation in the area PUSPIPTEK is feasible to implement.

Plastic hinge length of circular reinforced concrete columns

Yu-Chen Ou,Raditya Andy Kurniawan,Dimas Pramudya Kurniawan,Nguyen Dang Nguyen 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2012 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.10 No.6

This paper presents a parametric study of the plastic hinge length of circular reinforced concrete columns using a three-dimensional finite element analysis method, and using the Taguchi robust design method to reduce computational cost. Parameters examined include the longitudinal reinforcing ratio, the shear span-to-depth ratio, the axial force ratio and the concrete compressive strength. The study considers longitudinal reinforcement with yield strengths of 414 MPa and 685 MPa, and proposes simplified formulas for the plastic hinge length of circular reinforced concrete columns, showing that increases in plastic hinge length correlate to increases in the axial load, longitudinal reinforcing and shear span-todepth ratios. As concrete strength increases, the plastic hinge length decreases for the 414 MPa case but increases for the 685 MPa case.
