Comparative Study on the Tribological Properties of PTFE Coated Kevlar Fabric and Hybrid PTFE/Kevlar Fabric

Junzhu Zhao,Pibo Ma 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.4

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/Kevlar fabric has been widely used in functional fabric composites applied towear-resistant lining. In this study, the fabric sprayed PTFE and paste a PTFE film have been compared, the scheme for PTFEcoating has been optimized showing the friction coefficient of 0.091. The tribological properties of hybrid PTFE/Kevlarfabric were studied, showing that the best blending ratio of 1:3, weave structure of twill 2/1, and present outstanding wearresistance at loads of 7350 Pa by fabric abrasion tester. Besides, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was conduct to revealthe wear mechanism. The results show that the wear process of PTFE/Kevlar fabric can be divided into two stages: bondwear and fatigue wear. The investigation of the tribological properties of fabric has significant impact on the application ofanti-friction and wearable materials in heavy loading machinery equipment and aerospace industry.

        Yantao Gao,Pibo Ma,Ke Li,Jin Xu 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.4

Auxetic fabrics have many potential applications in technical textiles. Auxetic 3D warp-knitted spacer fabric canbe produced by adoption of some special geometrical configuration. Characterization of the geometrical configurations is ofvital significance to understand their auxetic property. In this paper, a typical 3D auxetic warp-knitted spacer fabric wasstudied by synchrotron radiation x-ray computed tomography (SR-CT). Fiber distribution in the fabric was clearly obtainedand different types of yarn were extracted separatively. 3D image reconstructed by synchrotron radiation X-ray computedtomography was consistent with the designed geometrical configuration. Besides, 3D model reconstructed lays thefoundation for further numerical analysis by FEA.

Effect of Process Parameters on Three-dimensional Formability of Warp-knitted Polypropylene Hernia Repair Mesh

        Tong Yang,Wanli Xu,Pibo Ma 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.1

The three-dimensional forming property of the hernia repair mesh is very important in the application. In order to study the correlation between process parameters and formability property, three variables are set for the test: diameter of raw materials, structure and drawing-off density. Results show that within a certain range, the forming performance of the patch becomes better with the increasing of the diameter of raw materials, and comparing with the double-comb opening through structure, the forming properties of the double-comb velveteen structure are better. Besides, in the same conditions, the forming property is better with the draw-off density increases.

Compression Property of Curved Three-dimensional Flat-knitted Spacer Fabric Composites under Quasi-static Loading

        Xiaoying Li,Shuang Yu,Pibo Ma,Gaoming Jiang,Honglian Cong 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.9

In order to study the compression property of curved three-dimensional(3D) flat-knitted spacer fabric compositesand to provide experimental data for the study of subsequent low speed impact and residual strength, 3D flat-knitted spacerfabrics were knitted into flat and curvilinear shapes, then 3D flat-knitted spacer fabric composites curved in different angleswere developed. Compression tests on various curvilinear composites were carried out using the universal material testingmachine after which stress-strain curves are compared. The results revealed that when other experimental conditions are thesame, the coursewise compression peak was significantly higher than waleswise, and compression peak also graduallyincreased with the increase of curvature, no matter the surface of 3D spacer fabric reinforced composites is flat or curvilinear. This research will lay the foundation for the further mechanical property study of curved 3D spacer fabric composites.

Unidirectional Wettability Performances of Weft-knitted Fabric Based on Yarn Structure

        Yuying Liu,Yong Kang,Min Luo,Pibo Ma 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.3

The performance of unidirectional moisture conductivity is affected by the structure of the selected yarn. A weftknittedfabric with unidirectional moisture conductivity was produced on Mach2X 153 computerized flat knitting machineusing water blocking yarn and polypropylene fiber with special structure as raw materials. The moisture conductivity of theselected yarn, the unidirectional moisture conductivity and air permeability of the fabric were tested. The results show thatthe inner polypropylene yarn is hydrophobic and has obvious moisture diffusion effect, while the outer polypropylene yarn ishydrophilic and has obvious moisture control effect. The results also can provide a new inspiration for us to control moistureabsorption by using different yarn structures and properties when producing unidirectional moisture conducting fabrics.

Compressive Properties of High-distance Warp-knitted Spacer Flexible Composite

        Xiaohui Zhang,Yuanyuan Yu,Andrews Boakye,Pibo Ma 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.5

This paper mainly introduces a high-distance warp-knitted spacer flexible composite material which is a special material consisting of high-distance warp-knitted spacer fabric and some coating materials. It introduces the designing process as well as the preparation of high-distance warp-knitted flexible composite material. In order to comprehend the influence of internal pressure on the material, the mechanical properties under 100 %, 80 % and 60 % gas pressure have been explored. A compression test under these three kinds of gas pressure was carried out and the related force displacement diagram, the stress-strain curve and the energy strain curve which directly reflects the variation of the mechanical properties of the composites material under the different gas pressure were obtained and presented. A deep investigation and analysis was conducted into knowing the compressive properties of the material and how they are affected by the gas pressure. The experimental results obtained shows that the compressive properties of the high-distance warp-knitted space flexible material is dependent on the amount of gas inserted. Again the compressive strength of the material keeps growing stronger with an increase in the intensity of the gas pressure.

Effect of Knitting and Finishing Parameters on the Initial Young’s Modulus and Tensile Strength for Polyester Weft Knitted Interlock Fabric

        Qing Chen,Dahua Shou,Rong Zheng,Bailu Fu,Jintu Fan,Pibo Ma 한국섬유공학회 2021 Fibers and polymers Vol.22 No.4

75D/72f and 100D/96f polyester yarns were knitted to develop three kinds of fabrics with different densities (large, medium and small) on circular knitting machine (gauge E18). It was found that the strength of the fabrics increased with theincrease of loop density, and the initial modulus of the fabrics also increased. In order to obtain better strength and lowerinitial modulus, the washing and heat setting process of the fabric were studied and explored. The strength and initialmodulus of the three density fabrics of the two yarn specifications decreased after pre-washing. Finally, the lowest initialmodulus (0.36 MPa at warp direction and 0.22 MPa at weft direction) were found in sample (sample no. 3-3) made of 75Dfilament in longest loop length under 140 oC heat setting. The weft strength and warp strength were 9.54 MPa and 5.28 MParespectively.

        Qing Chen,Dahua Shou,Rong Zheng,Jintu Fan,Xianfu Wan,Bailu Fu,Pibo Ma 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.6

The six types of weft knitted fabric in plating structure were made by cotton, polypropylene and polyester withdifferent number of filaments. The fabrics were tested by moisture management tester, vertical wicking and drying test. It wasfound that the large water absorption difference and the large filament density difference between the inner and outer side offabric could result in the better water absorption and drying ability. The fabric with polypropylene yarn (75D/48f) at innerside and cotton yarn (40 Ne) at outer side had best moisture management property evaluated by MMT. While the fabric withpolypropylene yarn (75D/48f) at the inner side and polyester yarn (75D/144f) at the outer side had highest vertical wickingand drying rate.
