Multiplication and spore production of three microsporidia viz., Nosema bombycis, Nosema sp. 1 and Nosema sp. 2 in fifth instar larval tissues of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. in two seasons with distinct temperature regimes were studied. Nosema sp. 2 produced significantly (P < 0.01) higher number of spores in various tissues. Among the tissues, spore production was highest in silk gland, followed by fat body and gut. Spore production was significantly (P < 0.01) higher in season-II (Average temperature $29.4{\pm}1.1^{\circ}C$). Maximum spore production was observed 25 days post inoculation (p. i.) in season-I (Average temperature $18.9{\pm}1.1^{\circ}C$), whereas in season-II, it was 14 days p. i. In season-I, spore production was low up to 21 days p. i., then increased sharply. In season-II, there was a steady increase in spore production. The results indicate that the microsporidian multiplication is tissue specific and extremely sensitive to temperature at which the host is reared. It also reveals that, silk gland, fat body and gut are the most appropriate tissues for microscopic identification of microsporidia in the larval stage.

Impact of microsporidian infection and season on reproductive potential of Bombyx mori L. was investigated in the laboratory. Microsporidian infection significantly (P<0.01) reduced fecundity and hatching and increased sterility and mortality of eggs. Among the microsporidia, Nosema sp. 2 infected silkworm produced eggs with least fecundity and hatching percent as well as highest dead and sterile eggs followed by Nosema sp. 1 and N. bombycis. Microsporidia, in general, significantly reduced fecundity and hatching percent of eggs and increased number of dead and sterile eggs in all the three seasons except N. bombycis in July - August (S3) and Nosema sp. 2 in January February (S1). Since, seed production is the anchor sheet of mulberry sericulture, coefficient of egg lying is considered as an important aspect and the industry quite often facing shortage of disease free layings. The present study indicates that B. mori is more susceptible to microsporidia during S2 followed by S3 and S1 and Nosema sp2. is most virulent followed by Nosema spl. and N. bombycis.

Hadamard matrices are a special type of matrices having various applications in cryptography. Here we present a method for the construction of Hadamard matrices using plateaued Boolean functions. The key generated using Hadamard matrices is used for end to end encryption of the messages using symmetric key cryptography. The performance of the proposed system is compared with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), and RSA cryptosystems. The results prove that the proposed system outperforms existing systems.

This paper reports the design methodology and implementation experiments for a solid-statebasedtriggering arrangement for the MARX generator of the KALI-30GW (1 MV, 30 kA, 80 ns)pulsed power system. The 15-stage bipolar MARX generator of the KALI-30GW system is triggeredusing a trigatron-type spark gap. An insulated-gate bipolar-transistor (IGBT)-based trigger supplyis used to trigger the first spark gap, and the next two spark gaps are triggered by using internallygeneratedtrigger pulses. Optically-isolated arrangements are provided for a human interface. Theentire assembly was tested with a dummy copper sulphate load, and an excellent triggering rangeof 7 − 12 kV was achieved. The circuit diagram, analysis and experimental results of the triggeringarrangement are presented in the paper.

Skeletal muscle is one of the leading frameworks of the musculo-skeletal system, which works in synergy with the bones. Long skeletal muscles provide stability and mobility to the human body and are primarily composed of proteins. Conversely, improper functioning of various skeletal muscles leads to diseases and disorders, namely, age-related muscle disorders called sarcopenia, a group of genetic muscle disorders such as muscular dystrophies, and severe muscle wasting in cancer known as cachexia. However, skeletal muscle has an excellent ability to undergo hypertrophy and enhanced functioning during sustained exercise over time. Indeed, these processes of skeletal muscle regeneration/hypertrophy, as well as degeneration and atrophy, involve an interplay of various signaling pathways. Myostatin is one such chemokine/myokine with a significant contribution to muscle regeneration or atrophy in multiple conditions. In this review, we try to put together the role and regulation of myostatin as a function of muscle regeneration extrapolated to multiple aspects of its molecular functions.

We report here the cost-effective synthesis of Magnesium Cobalt Oxide (MgCoO2) sample by the sol-gel synthesis route labeled as MCO - 3. In presence of aqueous 1 M Lithium Sulphate (Li2SO4) electrolyte, we obtained a capacitance of 56 F/g, an energy density of 38 Wh/kg and a capacitance retention of 92.53 % (at 5 A/g) after undergoing 1000 charge-discharge cycles. For the aqueous 1 M Sodium Perchlorate (NaClO4) electrolyte system, we found the capacitance, energy density and capacitance retention of 47 F/g, 31 Wh/kg and 91.41% (at 3.5 A/g for 1000 charge-discharge cycles), respectively. These results establish MgCoO2 as suitable electrode material in aqueous lithium-ion and sodium-ion supercapacitor devices. Further, MCO - 3 in the presence of aqueous 1 M Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) electrolyte showed an overpotential of 400 mV and a Tafel slope of 174 mV/dec, making it a suitable candidate for alkaline Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) electrocatalyst.

White Muscardine is the most common fungal disease of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. caused by the pathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to screen locally available medicinal/ weed plants against Beauveria bassiana. Among the plant extracts (PE) tested, 5% aqueous crude extract of the bulb of Allium sativum (Garlic) has been found to be most effective against Beauveria bassiana. The radial growth of Beauveria bassiana in vitro was inhibited to the tune of 54.9% in aqueous extract and 54.4% in ethanolic extract of Allium sativum and correspondingly mycelial dry weight gave rise to 110.7 mg and 108.7 mg against 201.7 mg in control 15 days post treatment. Similarly, silkworm larvae topically inoculated with the Beauveria bassiana conidia ($1.8{\times}10^6/ml$) registered survival up to 53.0% against 0.0% in control after treatment with aqueous extract of Allium sativum. Simultaneously, as a preventive measure, silkworm larvae were put to rear in conidia contaminated seat paper instantly treated with aqueous extract of Allium sativum that also increased survival up to 61.0% against 4.6% in control. It is also observed that the plant extract is absolutely innocuous to silkworm.
