      • 韓國 四森林帶의 소나무林에 관한 植物社會學的 硏究

        Four climatic forest zones were set up for the investigated areas in South Korea. A phytosociological study showed little differences in C, N and C/N ratio except for available phosphorus and pH. A correlation between DBH and tree height showed a similar tendency of DBH and age in all investigated areas. The nerer the villages, more human impact on vegetation was observed. In addition, men's impacts were considered to be a significant environmental foctor in growth rate of P. densiflora populations.

      • Estimating Direct Runoff from Storm Rainfall Using NRCS Runoff Method and GIS Mapping in Vientiane City, Laos

        The amount of direct runoff present in a watershed indicates the hydrological condition of the area, reflecting the characteristics of land use, soil and rainfall distribution. This study aims to measure the hydrological condition of Vientiane city by examining the runoff potential. This study obtained direct runoff from storm rainfall for the city area which covered the Mark-Hiao River watershed. The rainfall-runoff calculation is useful for future design of drainage networks within a watershed to support flooding management. The Geographical Information System (GIS) software is the main technology used in this study for the purposes of assigning the estimating process, watershed delineation, extracting hydrologic parameters and mapping. There are two main parts discussed with useful results in this study, delineating the river watershed and estimating weighted direct runoff for a watershed area. The result of delineating river watershed process, showing the changing elevation data achieved by combining the two elevation data, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 30m Digital Elevation Model (STRM 30m DEM), and digital contour data (Vientiane database), performed well in terms of representing surface flow networks and their topography. The calculated average of direct runoff in each small sub-watershed estimated by using Weigh-Q method of the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) very well showed the poor to good hydrologic condition in each specific area in 1-to5-day durations of storm events.

      • Landscape Ecological Study on the Habitats of Aconitum pseudo-leave var. erectum (Ranunculaceae) and Its Distribution

        This study was conducted to clarify the floristic composition and to investigate the landscape structure of habitats of Aconitum pseudo-leave var. erectum. A. pseudo-leave is designated an endemic plant in Korea. Floristic compositions of habitats were mainly composed of Quercus mongolica community. Other elements in this composition were Weigela subsessilis, Corylus sieboldiana and Cornus contioversa. Landscape ecological structure of habitats were defined by soils of mesic, loamy skeletal, slope of more than 60°, sixty percent of woody coverage at 460-520m above the sea level and 25m away from drainage. Distribution patterns of A. pseudo-leave var. erectum plants in Taejon were presented on the 1km X 1km grid map.

        Comparison of the Initial Demographies of Pine and Oak Populations in Rural Pine Forests in Korea and Japan

        In order to understand the human impact upon demographic change in plant population in rural forests, we examined the population trends of Pinus densiflora and Quercus serrata in P. densiflora forests viewing their seedlings and saplings in rural Korea and Japan. The most prominent factor affecting the regeneration of the pine and oak was the intensity of management activity which controlled the vegetation stratification and its light environment. Open spaces, such as graveyard or cleaned area that allow the long-term direct daylight in dry season to accelerate the surface heat of soil, were unfavorable habitats for germination and growth of both species. The negative effects of the presence of litter and evergreen trees were related to the failure of early seedling and sapling growth of pine. Cover of litter is, especially, another factor related to the growth of pine saplings. It is considered that successful germination and sapling growth of pine and oak in early successional stages is determined by vegetation structures and light condition.

      • Resources of woody plant in Taejon Area, Korea

        This study was carried out to clarify the distribution of woody resource plants in Mts. Kyeryong, Bomoon and Shikjang in Taejon area, Korea. The woody plants, collected from April 1995 to August 1998, consist of total 347 taxa; 59 families, 141 genera, 275 species, one subspecies, 56 varieties and 15 forms. The useful resource of woody plants were categorized as edible plant(128 taxa), medical plant(117 taxa), ornament plants(107 taxa), timber plants(38 taxa), pasturage(35 taxa) and industrial plant(20 taxa).

      • Resources of herbaceous plant in Taejon Area, Korea

        This study was to estimate and complete the flora of herbaceous plants found in Mt. Kyeryong National Park, Mt. Bomoon, and Mt. Shikjang in Taejon Korea. This research was conducted from April 1995 to August 1998. Herbaceous vascular plants were composed of 76 families, 336 genera, 574 species, 4 subspecies, 105 varieties and 9 forms, totaling 691 taxa. The useful resource plants were categorized as edible plants (45.4%), medical plants (31.1%), pasture plants (28.7%), ornamental plants (16.4%) and industrial plants (1.6%).

      • Distribution of Resource Plants in Mt. Man Roi(ChungBuk), Korea

        This study was performed to investigate the resources flora of Mt. Man Roi(611.7m; 37° 51 N, 127° 20 E), during April 1995 to September 1998. The vascular plants, which were collected from the mountain were composed of all 382 taxa including cultivated species, and classified into 1 phylum, 4 classes, 34 orders, 87 families, 254 genera, 323 species, 1 subspecies, 55 varieties and 4 forms. There were not rare and endangered species, while 7 taxa of Korean endemic plants, that is, Tricyitis dilatata, Clematis trichotoma, Deutzia coreana, Spiraea prunifolia var, simpliciflora, Forsythia koreana, Weigela subsessilis and Patrinia sanicalaefalia were distributed in this mountain. The vegetation of this investigated area is regarded as the boundary of the temperate middle part and temperate southern part in floral zone of the Korean Peninsula.

      • 甫吉島의 植物相과 植生에 關한 植物社會學的 硏究

        甫吉島에 對한 植物相과 植物群落에 대한 調査를 1987年 6月과 1989年 7月에 걸쳐 實施하였다. 植物相 調査는 營束植物 以上을 對象으로 採集하여 所産植物 137種 454屬 645種 110變種 13品種 2亞種 總 770을 同定하였다. 특히 旣發表한 本島의 常綠闊葉樹林中 未記錄된 넓은잎참가시나무(Quercus salicina var. latifolia Nakai), 모란(Ficus nipponica Fr.et Sav.), 보리밥나무(Elaeagnus macrophylla Thumb.), 백량금(Ardisia crenata Sims), 섬쥐똥나무(Ligustum folosum Nakai), 우묵사스레피(Eurya emarginata Makino) 等 6種을 發見하였다. 植生은 Braun-Blanquet의 植物社會學的 調査方法에 따라 調査하여 植生資料는 Ellenberg, 鈴本 等의 表操作法에 따라 다음과 같이 群落을 區分하였다. 常綠闊葉樹林인 Quercus acuta community, Ardisia japonica-Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii community, Quercus myrsinaefolia community, Typical community, Litsea japonica community, Vitex rotundifolia community, 混淆林인 Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii-Pinus densiflora community, Eurya japonica-Pinus thunbergii community, 落葉闊葉樹林인 Carpinus coreana community, 그리고 草本群落인 Erigeron canadensis-Artemisia princeps var. orientalis community, Pennisetum alopecuroides community, Gleichenia japonica community, Phyllostachys bambusoides afforestation 등 14個 群落으로 나타났다. 植生單位에 따라 現存植生圖를 製作하고, 또 이를 基準으로 하여 植生自然度圖를 圖示하였다. Pogil-do(126°37´ E.L and 34°10´N.L, Ca 33.0㎢), located in the southern part of Wando, Korea, is a part of the Dadohae National Marine Park. During 1987 to 1988, phytosociological investigation of this area was carried out on the basis of Braun-Blanquet's method. Vascular plants identified in these investigation were 137 families, 454 genera, 645 species, 110 varieties, 13 forma and 2 subspecies summing up to 770 species total. The forest vegetation was classified into 9 communites, Quercus acuta, Ardisia japonica-Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii, Quercus myrsinaefolia, Typical community, Litsea japonica, Vitex rotundifolia, Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii-Pinus densiflora, Eurya japonica-Pinus thunbergii and Carpinus coreana community. Grassland vegetation was classified into Erigeron canadensis-Artemisia princeps var. orientalis, Pennisetum alopecuroides, Persicaria conspicua, Gleichenia japonica community and Phyllostchys bambusoides afforestation. Based on them, the actual vegetation map was made in 1:50.000 scale. Degree of green naturality was also prepared on the basis of actual vegetation map.

        Nature-based Tourism in Small Islands Adjacent to Jakarta City, Indonesia: A case study from Seribu Islands

        In this paper, the nature-based tourism is described as one of the tools to achieve sustainable development in small islands. The study was carried out at Ayer, Bidadari and Onrust Islands of Kepulauan Seribu chains at Jakarta Bay, Indonesia. While the historical records show that previous uses of such islands have started at sixteen century, tourism uses was started at the beginning of 1970s. Among nature-based tourism destination in Kepulauan Seribu chains, these islands are the famous destinations and received a lot of tourists. Tourism growth at these islands has stimulated development of numerous tourism facilities and infrastructure to meet visitor satisfaction. It is observed in this study that island's site-plan destination design has contributed to the successful and sustainability of tourism in small island. The key success lies on the successful integration and implementation of three substantial perspectives into practices, namely economic, ecosystem and social perspectives. First, in order to enhance economic benefits, a site-plan design allowing floating cottages establishment to extent room availability, to build strong images as tropical paradise islands, and to enhance tourist satisfaction with the objectives of improving income and sustaining tourist loyalty to the destination. This design is also reducing land risk from tourism impact and it becomes the significant key of second perspective, the ecosystem perspective. Moreover, the ecosystem perspective has been implemented through native vegetation preservation that led island's wildlife conservation and became potential tourism attraction. The design also develops effective mechanism to manage and regulate visitor flows by establishing visitor track corridors. In implementation, such corridor plays an important role to reduce tourist density in single places and therefore become instrument to reduce severe visitor impact to wildlife, vegetation and heritages of islands. Third, the social aspect of development allowing heritages to conserve and furthermore serve numerous benefits for education, socio-political, culture, and historical studies. Through this study, it is clear that the success of these islands to continuous tourism growth lies on the island's vision to integrate economic, ecosystem and social perspectives on tourism development.
