Purpose: The fifth most common cancer is allocated to bladder cancer (BC) worldwide. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of BC invasion and metastasis to identify target therapeutic strategies will improve disease survival. So the aim of this study was to measure expression rate of zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) and transforming growth factor-beta2 (TGF-β2) mRNA in tissue samples of patients with BC and its healthy adjacent tissue samples and their association with muscle invasion, size and grade of the tumor. Materials and Methods: Tissue samples were collected from 35 newly diagnosed untreated patients with BC from 2013 to 2014. Total RNA was extracted from about 50-mg tissue samples using TRIzol reagent. TAKARA SYBR Premix EX Tag II was applied to determine the rate of mRNA expression by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). To obtain final validation, PCR product of ZEB1 and TGF-β2 were sequenced. STATA 11 software was used to analyze the data. Results: The expression level of ZEB1 in tumor samples was significantly more than of in healthy adjacent tissue samples. Up-regulation of TGF-β2 showed a strong association with muscle invasion (p=0.017). There was also demonstrated a relationship between over expression of ZEB1 with the tumor size (p=0.050). Conclusions: It looks ZEB1 and TGF-β2 had a role in BC patients. In this study ZEB1 expression was higher in BC tissues than that of in healthy control tissues. There was demonstrated a markedly association between overexpression of TGF-β2 and muscle invasion. Therefore, they are supposed to be candidate as potential biomarkers for early detection and progression of BC.

Kinetic and thermodynamic studies have been made on the effect of the inosine product on the activity of adenosine deaminase in a 50 mM sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.5, at 27oC using UV spectrophotometry and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). A competitive inhibition was observed for inosine as a product of the enzymatic reaction. A graphical-fitting method was used for determination of the binding constant and enthalpy of inhibitor binding by using isothermal titration microcalorimetry data. The dissociation-binding constant is equal to 140 μM by the microcalorimetry method, which agrees well with the value of 143 μM for the inhibition constant that was obtained from the spectroscopy method.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the waist circumference of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), had an impact on lung function. Methods: There were 180 patients with COPD recruited into this prospective cross-sectional study. The age, weight, body mass index and waist circumference (WC) were measured. Spirometry parameters including forced vital capacity (FVC), and forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), were measured and FEV1/FVC calculated. Results: The mean FEV1/FVC in both normal weight and overweight patients, did not statistically significantly correlate with WC. The COPD assessment test, positively correlated with WC (p = 0.031). A positive correlation with body mass index (p < 0.001), smoking (p = 0.027), and global initiative for chronic obstructive lung disease score (p = 0.009), were observed to positively associate with WC. WC, age, C-reactive protein, duration of disease, and gender (male), were observed to be statistically significant risk factors for the severity of COPD. Conclusion: WC was not observed to impact upon lung function in this study but it was a predictive factor for COPD severity in patients.
GENERALIZED MATRIX FUNCTIONS, IRREDUCIBILITY AND EQUALITY

Let $G{\leq}S_n$ and ${\chi}$ be any nonzero complex valued function on G. We first study the irreducibility of the generalized matrix polynomial $d^G_{\chi}(X)$, where $X=(x_{ij})$ is an n-by-n matrix whose entries are $n^2$ commuting independent indeterminates over $\mathbb{C}$. In particular, we show that if $\mathcal{X}$ is an irreducible character of G, then $d^G_{\chi}(X)$ is an irreducible polynomial, where either $G=S_n$ or $G=A_n$ and $n{\neq}2$. We then give a necessary and sufficient condition for the equality of two generalized matrix functions on the set of the so-called ${\chi}$-singular (${\chi}$-nonsingular) matrices.

Let G ≤ Sn and Χ be any nonzero complex valued function on G. We first study the irreducibility of the generalized matrix polyno- mial dGΧ (X), where X = (xij ) is an n-by-n matrix whose entries are n2 commuting independent indeterminates over C. In particular, we show that if Χ is an irreducible character of G, then dGΧ (X) is an irreducible polynomial, where either G = Sn or G = An and n 6= 2. We then give a necessary and sufficient condition for the equality of two generalized matrix functions on the set of the so-called Χ-singular (Χ-nonsingular) matrices.

Let $G$ be a finite group and $m$ a divisor of $|G|.$ We prove that $G$ has at least $\tau(m)$ cyclic subgroups whose orders divide $m$, where $\tau(m)$ is the number of divisors of $m.$

Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/Al2O3–ZrO2 nanocatalysts synthesized via impregnation and treated with non-thermal plasma were investigated in dry reforming of methane. The results showed that plasma treatment produces highly dispersed nanoparticles with a high surface area. Strong interaction between active phase and support particles in plasma-treated catalysts can be concluded based on XRD and XPS results. Smaller Ni particles with narrow particle size distribution were observed in plasma-treated Ni/Al2O3–ZrO2 nanocatalyst. The catalytic activity of plasma-treated Ni/Al2O3–ZrO2 was higher than that of conventional catalyst, resulting in operating conditions with considerably lower temperatures. Long reaction times confirmed the stability of the plasma-treated Ni/Al2O3–ZrO2 nanocatalyst.

Background: Orofacial clefts (OFCs) comprise a wide range of malformations, including cleft lip, cleft palate, and cleft lip with cleft palate, which can vary in terms of etiology, severity, and disease burden. Objective(s): This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between various risk factors and orofacial cleft disorder spectrum in newborns. Study design: A total of 323 cases and 400 controls were enrolled in this study and evaluated in terms of the maternal history of abortion or miscarriage, child's sex, maternal and paternal age, maternal history of systemic disease, history of medication therapy during pregnancy, birth order, consanguineous marriage, and complications during pregnancy. Results: Analysis of the results suggested that consanguineous marriage, a maternal history of abortion/miscarriage, and complications during pregnancy could potentially increase the risk of OFCs in children (P < 0.05). However, the analyses revealed that the other variables could not potentially increase the risk of OFCs (P > 0.05). Conclusion(s): Multiple cofactors may simultaneously contribute to the formation of such abnormalities; therefore, a comprehensive, multidisciplinary care program is necessary to ensure a successful pregnancy period and the birth of a healthy newborn.
