A Study of the Diffusion of Hallyu in South America

        Mayta Checasaca,서용구 한국상품학회 2023 商品學硏究 Vol.41 No.4

This study aimed to analyze the spread of Hallyu and the acceptance of cultural products offered by South Korea to the South American market. Since South Korea and South America do not share the same language or culture and are geographically far apart, despite these factors, South Korea's cultural products have been very well received by the population, reflected in the high ratings of K-dramas broadcast on South America's TV. Since the 20th century, South Korea has entered the Latin American continent through migration, Free Trade Agreement (FTAs), and other treaties. Thus, creating bonds of friendship and international cooperation between both countries. This is where, through these agreements, Korean cultural products began to be negotiated, and productions were exchanged between television companies from Latin countries and South Korea. Korean embassies located in South American countries also played a significant role in the diffusion of Korean cultural products. This includes promoting these products on TV channels in South American countries and supporting all kinds of events until today to spread Korean culture. Thus, K-dramas and movies began to appear in Peru and Chile, which were the first South American countries where the Korean wave reached with force and spread rapidly to Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and others. Therefore, it is expected that the Korean wave will continue on the market for a long time and expand even more over the world with the support from the fans (ARMYs), the internet, and social networks.

Association Between Burnout and Intention to Emigrate in Peruvian health-care Workers

        Alexander Anduaga-Beramendi,Renato Beas,Jesus Maticorena-Quevedo,Percy Mayta-Tristán 한국산업안전보건공단 산업안전보건연구원 2019 Safety and health at work Vol.10 No.1

Background: Emigration of health-care workers is a problem within global health systems which affects many countries, including Peru. Several factors have caused health-care workers to emigrate, including burnout syndrome (BS). This study aims to identify the association between BS and its dimensions with the intention of physicians and nurses to emigrate from Peru in 2014. Methods: A cross-sectional study, based on a secondary analysis of the National Survey of Health Users (ENSUSALUD - 2014) was conducted. Sampling was probabilistic, considering the 24 departments of Peru. We include the questionnaire for physicians and nurses, accounting for 5062 workers. BS was measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey. Adjusted odds ratio (OR) was calculated using multiple logistic regression. Results: Of the study population, 44.1% were physicians, 37.7% males, and 23.1% were working in Lima. It was found that 2.8% [95% confidence interval (CI): 2.19e3.45] of health-care workers had BS. The overall prevalence of intention to emigrate among health-care workers was 7.4% (95% CI: 6.36e8.40). Association was found between BS and intention to emigrate in Peruvian health-care workers (OR ¼ 2.15; 95% CI: 1.05e4.40). Emotional exhaustion was the BS dimension most associated with intention to emigrate (OR ¼ 1.80; 95% CI: 1.16e2.78). Conclusion: Physicians and nurses from Peru who suffered from BS were more likely to have intention to emigrate. Policies should be established to reduce BS as a strategy to control “brain drain” from healthcare workers of Peru.

Development of a Web Database System for a Comprehensive Hypertension Management Program in the Primary Health Care Setting of Urban Areas of Peru

        조혜연,Jorge A. Estrada Vidal,Oscar O. Giraldo Castillo,Luis A. Mayta Mamani,남은우 대한의료정보학회 2019 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.25 No.1

Objectives: The objective of this case report is to introduce the development process, structure, characteristics, and effectiveness of the web database (DB) system developed for the hypertension management program in the primary health care setting in the low-income urban areas of Peru. Methods: A Korean research team cooperated with a Peruvian IT startup company to develop a web DB system to improve the data management of the hypertension management program. The entire web application infrastructure was hosted using the Amazon Web Service. Two different web platforms were established for the user groups of health workers and researchers (program managers). Results: A total of 2,827 program participants were registered in the web DB system until December 2017. Health professionals can input the participant data while providing consultation to the program participants, and the data is accumulated in the web DB in real time. Input errors or data loss is prevented by setting restrictions in the data entry system. During the 4-year project period, 7,696 hours of working time and USD 39,536.48 for data management were saved as the result of web DB system utilization. Conclusions: The developed web DB system contributed to improve the health condition of the health program participants by providing necessary information to the health professionals at the right time. This case report could be a reference for other researcher to develop web databases for their own context, especially in developing countries.

Thoracic Fetiform Teratoma: A Case Report of a Very Rare Entity in a Peruvian Hospital

        Ludwig Cáceres-Farfán,Wildor Samir Cubas,Franco Albán,Jorge Mantilla-Vásquez,Johny Mayta-Rodríguez,Karen Mendoza-Guerra 대한심장혈관흉부외과학회 2023 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.56 No.4

Mature fetiform teratoma, or homunculus, is a term coined for a rare variant of teratoma with a prevalence of 0.01% of teratomas. There have been very few cases reported in the world, and its thoracic presentation is extremely unusual. We present the case of a 31-year-old female patient with a history of progressive chest pain in the left hemithorax, associated with dyspnea on moderate exertion and cough. Imaging studies revealed a large intrathoracic tumor visually compatible with a teratoma. Surgical resection by a clamshell approach was successful, and subsequent anatomopathological studies of the operative specimen concluded that the mass was a mature fetiform thoracic teratoma. The treatment of this entity is generally surgical and includes wide resection due to its large adhesive component to surrounding tissues. Thus, the cardiothoracic surgeon must know approaches that allow wide resection, making these cases true surgical challenges.
