Purpose In this paper, we proposed alternate neighborhood system and reverse spread-direction approach for accurate and fast cellular automata-based image segmentation method. Materials and Methods On the basis of a simple but effective interactive image segmentation technique based on a cellular automaton, we propose an efficient algorithm by using Moore and designed neighborhood system alternately and reversing the direction of the reference pixels for spreading out to the surrounding pixels. Results In our experiments, the GrabCut database were used for evaluation. According to our experimental results, the proposed method allows cellular automata-based image segmentation method to faster while maintaining the segmentation quality. Conclusion Our results proved that proposed method improved accuracy and reduced computation time, and also could be applied to a large range of applications.

We developed spontaneous diet-induced metabolic disease in mice by feeding them a high-fat diet for 23weeks and administered Aloe QDM complex for 16weeks to examine its restorative effect on immune disorders and metabolic syndrome. A series of immune functional assays indicated Aloe QDM complex enhanced lymphocyte proliferation and antigen-specific immunity as determined by the restored functions of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) and IgG production. The elevated serum TNF- level was also regulated by Aloe QDM complex treatment, which suggested its complex therapeutic potential. As for metabolic phenotypes, oral administration of Aloe QDM complex significantly improved diabetic symptoms, including high fasting glucose levels and glucose tolerance, and distinctly alleviated lipid accumulation in adipose and hepatic tissue. The simultaneous restoration of Aloe QDM complex on metabolic syndrome and host immune dysfunction, especially on the specific CTL killing was first elucidated in our study.

Meta-Analysis of Temperament Differences between Children Who Do and Do Not Stutter
Kyungjae Lee 한국청각언어재활학회 2022 Audiology and Speech Research Vol.18 No.3
Purpose: Stuttering is a multi-factorial disorder and temperament is believed to be related to the onset of stuttering. The primary purpose of the current study was to determine whether there would be differences in temperament between pre-school children who stutter (CWS) and children who do not stutter (CWNS) by meta-analysis. Methods: Five databases (three Korean and two English databases) were used in the current study for article search. A total of 23 articles (22 English, one Korean) met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in the current study. Effect sizes (Coehen's d) were calculated for each outcome. Results: There was a significant difference in the overall temperament between CWS and CWNS. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in two out of four temperamental areas. When measured by parental report and behavioral observation there was a significant difference in temperament between the two groups, but not by physiological measure. Conclusion: The meta-analysis results showed that CWS would have a different temperament from CWNS. Future research is needed on how temperament would influence the development of stuttering.

Abstract
The main targets for the immunosuppressive calcineurin inhibitors, cyclosporin A (CsA) and tacrolimus, have been considered to be activated T cells, but not antigen-presenting cells. Here we demonstrate that CsA and tacrolimus, but not rapamycin, inhibit major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-restricted antigen presentation in dendritic cells (DCs). Microencapsulated ovalbumin (OVA) was efficiently captured, processed, and presented on both class I MHC molecules (cross-presentation) as well as on class II MHC molecules. Addition of CsA and tacrolimus, but not rapamycin, to cultures of DCs inhibited both the class I processing pathway and the class II processing pathway of exogenous OVA. In addition, CsA and tacrolimus, but not rapamycin, also inhibited the classic class I processing pathway of endogenous OVA. CsA and tacrolimus did not inhibit presentation of exogenously added OVA peptide, SIINFEKL, phagocytic activity of DCs, or the total level of expression of class I MHC (H-2Kb) molecules. CsA and tacrolimus, however, inhibited profoundly the expression of SIINFEKL-H-2Kb complexes in OVA-phagocytized DCs. These results demonstrate clearly that CsA and tacrolimus inhibit intracellular processing events of antigens, and further suggest that the immunosuppressive activity of CsA and tacrolimus is at least in part due to inhibition of antigen processing pathways.

GaN Growth on SiC (0001) Substrates by Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition
Lee, Kyungbae,So, Byeongchan,Lee, Kyungjae,Heo, Cheon,Ko, Kwangse,Jang, Jongjin,Nam, Okhyun American Scientific Publishers 2016 Journal of nanoscience and nanotechnology Vol.16 No.11

In this study, the effects of the AlN buffer thickness and off-cut angles of 6H-SiC substrates on the crystallinity of GaN layers deposited via high-temperature metal organic chemical vapor deposition were investigated. The crystallinity of the GaN layers on the on-axis substrates was enhanced as the AlN buffer thickness increased. In contrast, the crystallinity of the GaN layers on the off-axis substrates was improved by applying relatively thinner AlN buffer layers. The strain relaxation of the GaN layers was closely related to the AlN buffer thickness and off-cut angles. Cathodoluminescence measurements revealed that the dark spot densities relative to defects were 1.9x10(8) and 8.9x10(7) cm(-2) for the on-and off-axis substrates, respectively. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy images showed that the screw and edge dislocation densities of the GaN layers deposited on off-axis substrates were reduced because of the bending of dislocations, which is due to macro-step bunching.

Cells have evolved sophisticated mechanisms to maintain genomic integrity in response to DNA damage. Ionizing radiation (IR)–induced DNA damage results in the formation of IR-induced foci (iRIF) in the nucleus. The iRIF formation is part of the DNA damage response (DDR), which is an essential signaling cascade that must be strictly regulated because either the loss of or an augmented DDR leads to loss of genome integrity. Accordingly, negative regulation of the DDR is as critical as its activation. In this study, we have identified ring finger protein 126 (RNF126) as a negative regulator of the DDR from a screen of iRIF containing 53BP1. RNF126 overexpression abolishes not only the formation of 53BP1 iRIF but also of RNF168, FK2, RAP80, and BRCA1. However, the iRIF formation of γH2AX, MDC1, and RNF8 is maintained, indicating that RNF126 acts between RNF8 and RNF168 during the DDR. In addition, RNF126 overexpression consistently results in the loss of RNF168-mediated H2A monoubiquitination at lysine 13/15 and inhibition of the non-homologous end joining capability. Taken together, our findings reveal that RNF126 is a novel factor involved in the negative regulation of DDR, which is important for sustaining genomic integrity.

Family Firms’ Changing Strategic Tendency on Restructuring: A Mixed-gamble Approach
Kyungjae Lee(이경재),Sunki Lee(이선기) 한국경영학회 2022 Korea Business Review Vol.26 No.2
This study empirically investigates family firms changing strategic tendency on restructuring depending on corporate circumstances. The findings demonstrate that family firms are generally less likely than non-family firms to conduct corporate restructuring. However, their engagement in restructuring becomes even greater than non-family firms as financial performance deteriorates. In other words, the results suggest that rather than always being more reluctant to engage in restructuring to preserve existing socioemotional wealth (SEW), family firms can conduct more restructuring than non-family firms, especially when they pursue long-term SEW gains at the expense of short-term SEW loss. By focusing on the specific condition under which restructuring becomes an act of strengthening SEW, this study further refines the complex nature of family firms’ strategic decisions on restructuring.

Lee, Youngjoo,Im, Sun-A,Kim, Jiyeon,Lee, Sungwon,Kwon, Junghak,Lee, Heetae,Kong, Hyunseok,Song, Youngcheon,Shin, Eunju,Do, Seon-Gil,Lee, Chong-Kil,Kim, Kyungjae MDPI 2016 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES Vol.17 No.10

Chronic stress generally experienced in our daily lives; is known to augment disease vulnerability by suppressing the host immune system. In the present study; the effect of modified Aloe polysaccharide (MAP) on chronic stress-induced immunosuppression was studied; this Aloe compound was characterized in our earlier study. Mice were orally administered with MAP for 24 days and exposed to electric foot shock (EFS; duration; 3 min; interval; 10 s; intensity; 2 mA) for 17 days. The stress-related immunosuppression and restorative effect of MAP were then analyzed by measuring various immunological parameters. MAP treatment alleviated lymphoid atrophy and body weight loss. The numbers of lymphocyte subsets were significantly normalized in MAP-treated mice. Oral administration of MAP also restored the proliferative activities of lymphocytes; ovalbumin (OVA)-specific T cell proliferation; antibody production; and the cell killing activity of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. In summary; oral administration of MAP ameliorated chronic EFS stress-induced immunosuppression.
