        Determination of the Langmuir and Temkin Adsorption Isotherms of H for the Cathodic H<sub>2</sub> Evolution Reaction at a Pt/KOH Solution Interface Using the Phase-Shift Method

        The phase-shift method for determining the Langmuir, Frumkin, and Temkin adsorption isotherms ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$) of H for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reaction (HER) at a Pt/0.1 M KOH solution interface has been proposed and verified using cyclic voltammetric, differential pulse voltammetric, and electrochemical impedance techniques. At the Pt/0.1 M KOH solution interface, the Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherms ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$), the equilibrium constants ($K_H=2.9X10^{-4}mol^{-1}$ for the Langmuir and $K_H=2.9X10^{-3}\exp(-4.6\theta_H)mol^{-1}$ for the Temkin adsorption isotherm), the interaction parameters (g=0 far the Langmuir and g=4.6 for the Temkin adsorption isotherm), the rate of change of the standard free energy of $\theta_H\;with\;\theta_H$ (r=11.4 kJ $mol^{-1}$ for g=4.6), and the standard free energies (${\Delta}G_{ads}^{\circ}=20.2kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for $k_H=2.9\times10^{-4}mol^{-1}$, i.e., the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and $16.7<{\Delta}G_\theta^{\circ}<23.6kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for $K_H=2.9\times10^{-3}\exp(-4.6\theta_H)mol^{-1}$ and $0.2<\theta_H<0.8$, i.e., the Temkin adsorption isotherm) of H for the cathodic HER are determined using the phase-shift method. At intermediate values of $\theta_H$, i.e., $0.2<\theta_H<0.8$, the Temkin adsorption isotherm ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$) corresponding to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$), and vice versa, is readily determined using the constant conversion factors. The phase-shift method and constant conversion factors are useful and effective for determining the Langmuir, Frumkin, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of intermediates for sequential reactions and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic data at electrode catalyst interfaces.

The behavior of the phase shift $(0^{\circ}\leq{-\phi}\leq90^{\circ})$ for the optimum intermediate frequency corresponds well to that of the fractional surface coverage $(1\geq{\theta}\geq0)$ at the interface. The phase-shift profile $({-\phi}\;vs.\;E)$ for the optimum intermediate frequency, i.e., the phase-shift method, can be used as a new method to estimate the Langmuir adsorption isotherm $(\theta\;vs.\;E)$ of the OPD H for the cathodic HER at the interface. At the poly-$Au|0.5M\;H_2SO_4$ electrolyte interface, the equilibrium constant (K) and standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of the OPD H are $2.3\times10^{-6}\;and\;32.2\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$, respectively.

        Evaluation of the zoonotic potential of a novel reassortant H1N2 swine influenza virus with gene constellation derived from multiple viral sources

        In 2011-2012, contemporary North American-like H3N2 swine influenza viruses (SIVs) possessing the 2009 pandemic H1N1 matrix gene (H3N2pM-like virus) were detected in domestic pigs of South Korea where H1N2 SIV strains are endemic. More recently, we isolated novel reassortant H1N2 SIVs bearing the Eurasian avian-like swine H1-like hemagglutinin and Korean swine H1N2-like neuraminidase in the internal gene backbone of the H3N2pM-like virus. In the present study, we clearly provide evidence on the genetic origins of the novel H1N2 SIVs virus through genetic and phylogenetic analyses. In vitro studies demonstrated that, in comparison with a pre-existing 2012 Korean H1N2 SIV [A/swine/Korea/CY03-1½012 (CY03-1½012)], the 2013 novel reassortant H1N2 isolate [A/swine/Korea/CY0423/2013 (CY0423-12/2013)] replicated more efficiently in differentiated primary human bronchial epithelial cells. The CY0423-12/2013 virus induced higher viral titers than the CY03-1½012 virus in the lungs and nasal turbinates of infected mice and nasal wash samples of ferrets. Moreover, the 2013 H1N2 reassortant, but not the intact 2012 H1N2 virus, was transmissible to naive contact ferrets via respiratory-droplets. Noting that the viral precursors have the ability to infect humans, our findings highlight the potential threat of a novel reassortant H1N2 SIV to public health and underscore the need to further strengthen influenza surveillance strategies worldwide, including swine populations.

        The Phase-Shift Method for the Langmuir Adsorption Isotherms of Electroadsorbed Hydrogens for the Cathodic H<sub>2</sub> Evolution Reactions at the Poly-Pt Electrode Interfaces

K와 ${\Delta}G_{ads}$의 전이는 다결정 Pt전극 표면의 상이한 UPD H와 OPD H의 흡착부위에 기인한다. 다결정 Pt전극 계면에서 UPD H와 OPD H는 음극 $H_2$ 발생 반응에 따른 순차적 과정이 아니라, 수소 흡착부위 자체에 따른 독립적 과정이다. UPD H와 OPD H의 기준은 음극 $H_2$발생 반응과 전위가 아니라, 수소 흡착부위와 과정이다. 수용액에서 음극 $H_2$발생 반응에는 다결정 Pt선 전극이 단결정 Pt(100)원반 전극보다 더 효율적이고 유용하다 위상이동 방법은 열역학적 방법과 상충적이 아니라, 보완적이다. The Langmuir adsorption isotherms of the under-potentially deposited hydrogen (UPD H) and the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) at the poly-Pt/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ and 0.5 M LiOH aqueous electrolyte interfaces have been studied using cyclic voltammetric and ac impedance techniques. The behavior of the phase shift $(0^{\circ}{\leq}{-\phi}{\leq}90^{\circ})$ for the optimum intermediate frequency corresponds well to that of the fractional surface coverage $(1{\geq}{\theta}{\geq}0)$ at the interfaces. The phase-shift method, i.e., the phase-shift profile $({-\phi}\;vs.\;E)$ for the optimum intermediate frequency, can be used as a new electrochemical method to determine the Langmuir adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\;E)$ of the UPD H and the OPD H for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reactions at the interfaces. At the poly-Pt/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface, the equilibrium constant (K) and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of the OPD H are $2.1\times10^{-4}$ and 21.0kJ/mol, respectively. At the poly-Pt/0.5M LiOH aqueous electrolyte interface, K transits from 2.7(UPD H) to $6.2\times10^{-6}$ (OPD H) depending on the cathode potential (E) and vice versa. Similarly, ${\Delta}G_{ads}$ transits from -2.5kJ/mol (UPD H) to 29.7kJ/mol (OPD H) depending on I and vice versa. The transition of K and ${\Delta}G_{ads}$ is attributed to the two distinct adsorption sites of the UPD H and the OPD H on the poly-Pt surface. The UPD H and the OPD H on the poly-Pt surface are the independent processes depending on the H adsorption sites themselves rather than the sequential processes for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reactions. The criterion of the UPD H and the OPD H is the H adsorption sites and processes rather than the $H_2$ evolution reactions and potentials. The poly-Pt wire electrode is more efficient and useful than the Pt(100) disc electrode for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reactions in the aqueous electrolytes. The phase-shift method is well complementary to the thermodynamic method rather than conflicting.

        Cordyceptin induces apoptosis through repressing hTERT expression and inducing extranuclear export of hTERT

        Cordycepin is an adenosine analog originally extracted from Cordyceps militaris that possesses many pharmacological effects including immune activation and antioxidant and antitumor effects. However, the underlying relationship between apoptosis and telomerase activity in response to cordycepin exposure has not been investigated. In this study, we found that cordycepin-induced apoptosis of human leukemia cells (H937 and THP-1 cells) was associated with inactivation of telomerase and downregulation of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) as well as the transcription factors c-Myc and Sp1, which are required for basal transcription from the hTERT gene promoter. Cordycepin also attenuated the activation of phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling, thereby reducing phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of hTERT. We further showed that the PI3K inhibitor LY29004 significantly decreased telomerase activity in cordycepin-treated cells and increased cordycepin-induced cell death. These findings demonstrate that cordycepin is cytotoxic to human leukemia cells and suppresses telomerase activity through transcriptional and post-translational suppression of hTERT by inactivating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

      • H-bridge 멀티-레벨 인버터의 파워Cell AVR에 관한 알고리즘

        본 논문은 멀티-레벨 H-bridge 인버터에서 입력전압 변동에 따른 AVR(Auto Voltage Regulation) 기능을 적용 그 타당성을 제안하였다. 기존의 범용 인버터에서 (V/F)로 구동되는 전동기 시스템에 있어서 인버터에 공급되는 입력 전압은 출력 주파수에 따라 출력 전압 비율을 일정하게 하고 기동에 필요한 전압을 더하여 출력하는 방식이다. 집중 제어 방식의 멀티-레벨 H-bridge 인버터에서는 Cell의 DC-Link 전압을 Master에서 받아들여서 각각의 Cell에 기준 전압값을 지령하게 된다. 그러므로 입력 전압 변동에 따른 DC-Link 전압의 변동이 발생하게 되면 상전압 Unbalance 가 발생하게 되어 부하가 원하는 출력 전압을 낼 수가 없게 된다. 또한 각각의 Cell을 제어하는 Master 제어기가 가지고 있는 문제점을 보완하여 각각의 Cell 제어기 스스로가 AVR을 수행하는 좀더 나은 방법을 제안하였다.

        Genetics and biological property analysis of Korea lineage of influenza A H9N2 viruses

        <P>H9N2 influenza viruses have been detected from wild and domestic avian species including chickens and ducks worldwide. Few studies have compared the biological properties of different H9N2 lineages or determined whether certain lineages might pose a higher risk to mammals, especially H9N2 viruses of Korean lineage. The objective of this study was to characterize the genetic and biological properties of 22 Korean H9N2 viruses and assess their potential risks to mammals. Their complete genomes were analyzed. Some Korean I-19N2 viruses were found to carry mammalian host-specific mutations. Based on genomic diversities, these H9N2 viruses were divided into 12 genotypes. All 22 showed preferential binding to human-like receptor. Two of eight H9N2 viruses were highly lethal to mice, causing 90-100% mortality without prior adaptation and severe respiratory syndromes associated with diffuse lung injury, severe pneumonia, and alveolar damage. These findings suggest that recent Korean H9N2 viruses might have established a stable sublineage with enhanced pathogenicity to mice. Various H9N2 strains pathogenic to mice were endemic in wild bird, poultry farm, and live bird markets, suggesting that Korean H9N2 viruses could evolve to become a threat to humans. The findings emphasize the necessity of careful, continuous, and thorough surveillance paired with risk-assessment for circulating H9N2 influenza viruses.</P>

      • 분산제어를 이용한 고압인버터 시스템

        H-Bridge Multi-Level (HBML) 고압인버터는 저압의 반도체 소자를 사용하는 단상 H-Bridge 인버터로 구성 된 셀을 직렬로 연결함으로써 정현파에 가까운 고전압을 얻을 수 있고, 입ㆍ출력 고조파가 낮아서 필터가 필요 없는 토폴로지로 산업분야에서 사용이 확대되고 있다. 본 논문은 HBML 고압인버터의 마스터 제어기와 셀 제어기의 통신 하드웨어를 병렬로 구성하여서 하나의 전압지령 값과 Angle 값으로 셀에서 PWM을 구현 할 수 있는 분산제어 방식을 제안한다. 이 방식에서 셀제어기가 전압, 전류, 주파수, 보호기능, 통신감시 정보 등 셀제어의 대부분을 담당함으로써 마스터 제어기의 부담을 줄이고, 따라서 신호선의 개수를 줄일 수 있다. 또 통신하드웨어의 종단에 마스터 제어기를 연결만 하면 마스터제어기의 2중화가 가능하므로 사용하고 있던 마스터 제어기의 고장 발생 시에 대체하여 사용할 수 있으므로 시스템의 안정성 향상에 도움을 준다. 선간전압 33레벨로 구성된 HBML 고압인버터 시험을 통해 제안된 방식의 타당성과 신뢰성을 검증한다.

        Conduritol F, the discriminant marker between C. wilfordii and C. auriculatum by <sup>1</sup>H NMR spectroscopy

        <P>Quantitative H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) spectroscopy is a powerful and versatile technique to enable the absolute quantification of specific components in a mixture with excellent reproducibility and robustness. In the present study, qNMR analysis was applied to conduritol F, a chemical marker with the potential to distinguish between C wilfordii and C auriculatum. We found that the signals of H-5 and H-6 of conduritol F were well-separated from others with purities sufficient to be used to distinguish between C wilfordii and C. auriculatum. This simple methodology can be applied to identify one or two species in products or powdered herbs widely distributed in the markets. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>
