This paper proposes the analysis on new equipment for power quality in electrified railway. The proposed equipment consists of series and parallel inverter. Each inverter is connected by capacitor as dc link. This structure can be compensated for active and reactive power in catenary through transformer.

DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. EMU in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system will be increased. This paper present the developed inverter for regenerative power and its test equipment. Test result of developed inverter is presented.

Electric load components have different characteristics according to the variation of voltage and frequency. This paper presents the load modeling of an electric locomotive by the parameter identification method. The proposed method for load modeling is very simple and easy for application. The proposed load model of the electric locomotive is represented by the combination of the loads that have static and dynamic characteristics. This load modeling is applied to the KTX in Korea to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results of proposed load modeling by the parameter identification follow the field measurements very exactly.

This paper presents an PSO-based optimization methodology for estimating the capacities and initial SOC of an energy storage systems (ESSs) in a DC electric railway system. The proposed method calculates the optimal solution using the missing capacity caused by the limited storage capacity. The missing capacity can be estimated through continuous-powerfl ow analysis. In many previous studies, capacities was calculated by assuming the each ESS as an independent device. However, since each storage device aff ects the charging and discharging operation of each other, this assumption might aff ect the convergence characteristics. In this paper, to solve this problem, the missing capacity of the ESS at both sides is refl ected by using the relating coeffi cient derived based on the electrical distance between storage devices. The case studies show that the most effi cient operation without missing capacity is possible under the derived capacities and initial SOC
