        Effect of Hole Shapes, Orientation And Hole Arrangements On Film Cooling Effectiveness

        In this present work, the effect of hole shapes, orientation and hole arrangements on film cooling effectiveness has been carried out. For this work a flat plate has been considered for the computational model. Computational analysis of film cooling effectiveness using different hole shapes with no streamwise inclination has been carried out. Initially, the model with an inclination of $30^{\circ}$ has been verified with the experimental data. The validation results are well in agreement with the results taken from literature. Five different hole shapes viz. Cylindrical, Elliptic, Triangular, Semi-Cylindrical and Semi-Elliptic have been compared and validated over a wide range of blowing ratios. The blowing ratios ranged from 0.67 to 1.67. Later, orientation of holes have also been varied along with the number of rows and hole arrangements in rows. The performance of film cooling scheme has been given in terms of centerline and laterally averaged adiabatic effectiveness. Semi-elliptic hole utilizes half of the mass flow as in other hole shapes and gives nominal values of effectiveness. The triangular hole geometry shows higher values of effectiveness than other hole geometries. But when compared on the basis of effectiveness and coolant mass consumption, Semi-elliptic hole came out to give best results.

      • Feasibility study of ambient cured geopolymer concrete -A review

        Geopolymer concrete is a fastest developing field of research for utilizing industrial and agro waste materials as an alternative for Portland cement based concrete. Geopolymers are formed by the alkaline activation of aluminosilicates rich materials termed as geopolymerization. The process of geopolymerization requires elevated temperature curing which restricts its application to precast industry. This review summarizes the work carried out on developing the geopolymer concrete with the addition of various mineral admixtures at ambient curing temperature conditions. An overview of studies promoting the geopolymer concrete in general building construction is presented. Literature study revealed that geopolymer concrete with the addition of admixtures can exhibit desirable properties at ambient temperature conditions.

        GROWTH HORMONE CONCENTRATIONS IN LACTATING CROSSBRED COWS AND BUFFALOES

        The studies were conducted on 12 lactating animals comprising of six Karan Swiss (KS) cows and six Murrah buffaloes in second and third lactation. At the start of experiment the cows had completed on an average 51 days in lactation and were yielding an average of 15.1 kg milk a day. The buffaloes had completed 53 days in lactation and were yielding an average of 11.6 kg milk a day. At fortnightly intervals jugular blood samples were drawn at morning, noon, evening and night hours. Plasma growth hormone concentrations were highest during morning and thereafter decreased. In both the species there was a definite trend in the change of growth hormone concentrations during the day. In general growth hormone concentration decreased as the stage of lactation advanced. The overall average values of plasma growth hormone in cows and buffaloes were 2.95 and 2.48 ng/ml which were not statistically different. With the advancing lactation, the decline in milk yields in both the species was positively correlated with the growth hormone concentrations.

      • Improving compressive strength of low calcium fly ash geopolymer concrete with alccofine

        Geopolymer concrete is environmentally friendly and could be considered as a construction material to promote the sustainable development. In this paper fly ash based geopolymer concretes with different percentages of alccofine were made by mixing sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate as an alkaline activator and cured at ambient as well as heat environment in an electric oven at $90^{\circ}C$. Effects of various parameters such as the percentage of alccofine, curing temperature, a period of curing, fly ash content, was studied on compressive strength as well as workability of geopolymer concrete. The study concludes that the presence of alccofine improves the properties of geopolymer concrete during a fresh and hardened state of concrete. Geopolymer concrete in the presence of alccofine can be used for the general purpose of concrete as required compressive strength can be achieved even at ambient temperature. The 28 days compressive strength of 73 MPa, when cured at 90-degree Celsius, confirmed that it is also very suitable for precast concrete components.

        BODY COMPOSITION CHANGES IN CROSSBRED COWS AND MURRAH BUFFALOES DURING LACTATION

        Six lactating crossbred cows and six Murrah buffaloes, maintained under similar conditions of feeding and management were studied for body composition by the antipyrine dilution technique. Measurements were made at the start of the experiment when the animals had completed about 50 days in lactation and thereafter at monthly intervals up to 90 days of the experimental period. The percent body water estimates in both species at different time intervals did not change significantly. Percent body fat and protein content also remained unchanged. The correlation coefficient between body composition parameters and various hormones (growth hormone, insulin, $T_3$ and $T_4$) were generally low and non-significant. It was concluded that body composition studies using body water are not sufficiently sensitive to predict changes in body composition of lactating cows and buffaloes and/or the changes in body composition during lactation are not very drastic.

        RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOME CIRCULATING HORMONES, METABOLITES AND MILK YIELD IN LACTATING CROSSBRED COWS AND BUFFALOES

        To study the relationship between certain hormones and metabolites and between hormones and milk yield during different stage of lactation, six lactating Karan Swiss cows and six Murrah buffaloes were maintained. Growth hormone, insulin, $T_3$, $T_4$, glucose, BHBA, NEFA and milk yield were studied. Highly negative relationship of growth hormone with insulin and triiodothyronine in cows and marginally negative in buffaloes suggest that insulin and triiodothyronine aid in the process of partitioning of nutrients towards milk production through reducing the demands of nutrients by peripheral tissue. The significant and negative correlation of growth hormone with dry matter intake in both the species suggest that the availability of nutrients from the digestive tract play a role in the regulation of growth hormone secretion. Positive relationship of growth hormone with non esterified fatty acids in both the species suggest that high growth hormone levels may result in fat mobilization and thereby increase the availability of energy precursors for milk synthesis. Insulin was negatively correlated with milk yield and lactose content and positively with milk fat and protein but the degree of relationship varied. In both the species the relationship between triiodothyronine and milk yield was negative and between thyroxine and milk yield was positive. However, it was significant only in cows and not in buffaloes. Thyroxine was positively correlated with beta-hydroxybutyrate and non-esterified fatty acids with milk yield in both the species.

        Sarcopenia: Ammonia metabolism and hepatic encephalopathy

        Sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass and/or strength) frequently complicates liver cirrhosis and adversely affects the quality of life; cirrhosis related liver decompensation and significantly decreases wait-list and post-liver transplantation survival. The main therapeutic strategies to improve or reverse sarcopenia include dietary interventions (supplemental calorie and protein intake), increased physical activity (supervised resistance and endurance exercises), hormonal therapy (testosterone), and ammonia lowering agents (L-ornithine L-aspartate, branch chain amino acids) as well as mechanistic approaches that target underlying molecular and metabolic abnormalities. Besides other factors, hyperammonemia has recently gained attention and increase sarcopenia by various mechanisms including increased expression of myostatin, increased phosphorylation of eukaryotic initiation factor 2a, cataplerosis of α ketoglutarate, mitochondrial dysfunction, increased reactive oxygen species that decrease protein synthesis and increased autophagy-mediated proteolysis. Sarcopenia contributes to frailty and increases the risk of minimal and overt hepatic encephalopathy.

        Management of an Iatrogenic Injury in a Crossed Ectopic Kidney Without Fusion

        Crossed renal ectopia is a condition in which a kidney is located on the side oppositeof its ureteral insertion. Ninety percent of crossed ectopic kidneys are fused to theiripsilateral uncrossed renal unit. Crossed renal ectopia without fusion is rare, with only62 patients reported in the literature to date. These kidneys may suffer iatrogenic injuryduring an unrelated surgical intervention. The injury, unless self-limiting, may necessitatethe removal of the ectopic kidney. We present a unique case of a dual injury, renalas well as ureteric, in a crossed ectopic kidney without fusion that was successfully managedwithout surgical excision.

        Isolated Congenital Urethrocutaneous Fistula of the Anterior Urethra

        Isolated congenital urethrocutaneous fistula of the anterior urethra is an extremely rare anomaly in which, along with a normal urethra and meatus, a fistula is present. These cases usually present in the pediatric age group. To date, only one such case has been described in the adult population. We describe one such case in an adult and discuss the management of this uncommon anomaly.

        New congruences for $\ell$-regular overpartitions

        For a positive integer $\ell$, $\overline{A}_{\ell}(n)$ denotes the number of overpartitions of $n$ into parts not divisible by $\ell$. In this article, we find certain Ramanujan-type congruences for $\overline{A}_{ r \ell}(n)$, when $r\in\{8, 9\}$ and we deduce infinite families of congruences for them. Furthermore, we also obtain Ramanujan-type congruences for $\overline{A}_{ 13}(n)$ by using an algorithm developed by Radu and Sellers \cite{Radu2011}.
